The body of actor Andrei Panin, who played opera Kaverin in the film “Brigada,” was found in his apartment on March 7, 2013. Despite multiple wounds on the body, the case was closed and reclassified as an accident. Thousands of people came to the Moscow Art Theater to say goodbye to Panin; he was buried at the Troekurovsky cemetery.
Beloved by many TV viewers, Andrei Panin passed away too early and tragically. The mysterious circumstances of the incident continue to sow various assumptions about what happened. The officially presented cause of death of Andrei Panin does not suit the majority, first of all, the actor’s relatives and friends. After all, his life was at the peak of popularity. Everything was fine in the family. What happened on that fateful day? This remains a mystery to everyone. Circumstantial facts that shed some light on the circumstances of the death were never taken seriously by the investigation.
When the actor died
On the eve of International Women's Day on March 8, the media shocked Russians with tragic news. It was reported that on the morning of Thursday, March 7, 2013, the body of Andrei Panin was found in one of the Moscow apartments on Balaklavsky Avenue with signs of unnatural death. The actor was found by close friends, worried that their friend had been ignoring calls and not getting in touch for several days.
Andrei Panin rented the one-room apartment in which the body was found. This was his “den”. Here he could take a break from everyone and be alone with himself. The apartment where the family lived was located in another place in Moscow. There is no need to hide, like many artistic personalities, Andrei was addicted to alcohol from time to time. Thus, he alone struggled with the stress and depression that came after experiencing the fate of the hero he played. In all his roles, he transformed himself completely, without reserve.
The examination confirmed the fact of drinking alcohol on the eve of death by conducting a blood test. In addition, many empty vodka bottles were found in the apartment. These days, neighbors heard voices in the apartment; perhaps the actor was not alone. Some eyewitnesses stated that people were quarreling. But no one saw the guests entering or leaving.
Andrei's body was found in a pool of his own blood, with numerous hematomas and bruises. Experts immediately disagreed. Some put forward the version of an accident. Others saw a criminal nature and sided with the version of violent death.
Experts have established that Panin’s death occurred on March 6. After examining the scene of the incident, it was finally decided to initiate a case under Article 111 Part 4 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (Serious harm to health causing death).
The mystery of the death of Andrei Panin
On May 28, Andrei Panin would have turned 54 years old, but in 2013 he passed away under mysterious circumstances. The question of what was the real cause of his death still remains open. Since his death, three main versions have emerged: accident, murder and manslaughter. The reason given in official sources - an accident - seems implausible to many.

The body of Andrei Panin was discovered on March 7, 2013 in his apartment. The deceased was diagnosed with a traumatic brain injury. Death occurred the day before, on March 6. The press received the following information from anonymous sources: the door to the apartment was locked, the actor was drunk at the time of his death, a head injury and large blood loss were recorded, there were traces of blood throughout the apartment, no valuable items were taken out of the apartment.

Anonymous sources in law enforcement agencies claim that Panin’s death is not of a criminal nature - most likely, the actor became ill, fell and hit himself. In their opinion, Panin was injured by falling from his own height, stumbling while drunk. Having smashed his head, he panicked and began to move around the apartment randomly. And movement and increased blood pressure from alcohol increased the pulsation of the blood, resulting in death.

2 years after the death of the actor, the criminal case into his death was closed with the wording “accident,” but to this day many of Panin’s friends and colleagues continue to claim that this is not true. Even a drunk person in such a state would try to stop the bleeding, and then they would find, for example, a towel covered in blood. If he realized that he couldn’t do this on his own, he would probably call someone. However, no calls were recorded.

Supporters of the version of violent death suggest that a fight took place in the apartment, and Panin died as a result of the bodily injuries inflicted on him. Many are convinced that the actor could not have received such injuries as a result of a fall. The abrasions on his knuckles and bruises on his knees also support the version of the fight. But no traces of a fight were found, no one heard any noise. Moreover, the door was locked. Therefore, it was someone they knew who was let into the apartment and then left, taking the keys?

The version that the actor was killed in another place and then brought to the apartment was also not confirmed - there were no traces of blood in the elevator or the entrance, but they were everywhere in the apartment. And in this case, there would probably have been witnesses who saw or heard how the body was brought into the entrance. There is also a possibility that Panin was beaten, after which he came home on his own, opened and closed the door with his key, and then lost consciousness and died from blood loss and injuries. But could he get home in this state?

Panin's wife, actress Natalya Rogozhkina, believes that the cause of his death was the same addiction that destroyed their marriage - addiction to alcohol. Investigators are confident that the actor had been drinking heavily for the last few days before his death, which is confirmed by his neighbors. Panin appeared in his bachelor apartment periodically when he wanted to be alone.

Psychologist A. Orlova claims that the actor was depressed: “People of creative professions who live in such a rhythm as Panin simply do not know how to rest! In the conditions of their work, when there is practically not a single minute to be themselves, in the circle of loved ones, the need to constantly be in public - all this leads to chronic fatigue syndrome. This is a syndrome of professional burnout, when accumulated irritation, excessive, prolonged emotional stress simply breaks a person.”

Farewell ceremony for Andrei Panin
Farewell to actor Andrei Panin took place on March 12. The memorial service took place at the Moscow Art Theater School. Chekhov. Here he studied acting. The coffin with the body was placed on the stage. A guard of students stood next to the deceased. The stage was equipped with three rows of seats. They accommodated the wife and children, as well as relatives, relatives and friends.
Famous people approached the coffin and laid flowers and wreaths. The actors spoke memorable speeches into the microphone from the stage, remembering the talent of Andrei Panin. Among the speakers were:
- theater director Oleg Tabakov;
- actors Gosha Kutsenko, Marat Basharov;
- the Strizhenov spouses and others.
So many mourners came to see off that they occupied most of Kamergersky Lane. Citizens were allowed to lay flowers, but were forbidden to stay in the hall, since there were a lot of people who wanted to say goodbye. At the exit from the hall there was a clash between security and mourners who did not want to leave the hall. Oleg Tabakov noticed this and allowed the passage to the balcony to be opened. Thus, the fight was resolved and people could attend the funeral service.
The coffin with the body of Andrei Panin was carried out of the theater to the applause of the audience, chanting: “Bravo!” Next, the ceremonial procession proceeded to the Church of the Resurrection of the Word in Bryusov Lane for the funeral service of the deceased. After the church funeral service, the funeral procession headed to the Troekurovskoye cemetery, where the artist was buried.
Andrei Panin's grave is located on the actors' alley next to the grave of Vladislav Galkin.
Death investigation
Based on the official conclusion of the forensic examination, Andrei Panin died on March 6. After examining the body, it was decided to open a case of violent death (Article 111, Part 4 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation). The version of the murder was confirmed by multiple hematomas on the artist’s body. Experts, witnesses and witnesses had the feeling that Andrei had been severely beaten. Some of the wounds contained particles of broken glass.
During the examination, the artist was found to have injuries to his knuckles and bruises on his knees. Broken hands could indicate a fight or an attempt to defend against an attacker. And bruises on the knees could arise from kicks. In addition, the victim’s trousers were not damaged, which is uncharacteristic of a person falling to his knees.
In addition, the actor had numerous bruises on his face and head. According to experts, in order to inflict such damage on oneself, a person must be in deep psychosis. In this state, a person may hit walls and cut himself with sharp objects. But a healthy body is not capable of this, since the instinct of self-preservation manifests itself. The most severe form of intoxication? Perhaps, but in this state few people are able to move.
The investigation lasted 2 years. The lack of suspects led to the case being reclassified as an accident. This allowed it to be closed due to the lack of evidence of a crime.
Many journalists who conducted their own investigation do not agree with the reclassification of the case and its closure. The disagreement is based on the examination of the examination material, where the presence of violence is obvious.
Various versions of what happened
During investigations conducted by law enforcement agencies, journalists and even psychics, all the smallest evidence and versions of how Andrei Panin spent the last evening of his life were carefully examined. The reasons for the actor's death were given as follows:
- Accident.
- Planned murder of an actor.
- Accidental murder of Andrei Panin.
At the beginning of the investigation, forensic experts established that the actor died, most likely, from a traumatic brain injury or from blood loss. The first version that was announced was an accident. According to this version, the actor received a traumatic brain injury due to a fall from his own height. However, during further investigation, this version was replaced by another. After the body was examined in more detail, many abrasions and wounds were noticed on the face and back of the actor’s head, which could not have been caused by a fall. That is, the actor was severely beaten. This research gave rise to a new version - murder.

After the actor’s death, 6 documentaries were made about his tragic death and his creative path.

The death of Andrei Panin: the actor was appointed as the killer... an accident
Six years ago, on March 7, 2013, actor Andrei Panin was found dead in his apartment. The investigation tried for a long time to find the artist’s killer - but...
Corpse - and blood in all rooms
50-year-old Panin was found lying on the floor in his apartment and the first impression of specialists was that he fell, hit his head and died. However, a little later, forensic experts came to the conclusion that the artist had been severely beaten before his death.
This was indicated by multiple fractures of the vault and base of the skull, a severe brain contusion, abrasions on the knuckles, which could indicate resistance by the victim, and bruises on the knees. Moreover, the interviewed neighbors of the actor admitted that they heard an incomprehensible noise from Panin’s apartment, but did not attach any significance to it.
According to one of the experts, who did not identify himself, the artist was most likely beaten with hard, blunt objects, for example, wooden legs from stools and chairs. And also bottles. Several deep wounds on Panin’s head, in which glass fragments were found, are further confirmation of this.
A close friend of the artist, Boris Polunin, stated that at the time Panin’s body was found, the entire apartment was covered in blood. According to him, Andrei Panin was found in the kitchen, while the balcony was closed and for some reason propped up by the kitchen table.
A criminal case was opened into the death of actor Andrei Panin - however, not under the article “Murder” - but under Part 4, Art. 111 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation “Causing grievous bodily harm resulting in the death of the victim through negligence.”
Spree star
After the tragedy, Panin’s friends expressed several versions of what could have happened to him on that March evening in 2013 in the apartment in which he, according to Panin himself, was taking a break from work and family problems. The artist did not really like to talk about personal topics, but it was already known that he left the family two years before his death.
They lived together with the mother of their children, Natalya Rogozhkina, for many years. True, they got married only in 2006 - after 13 years of family life. And in 2011 they divorced. The actor’s ex-wife also didn’t particularly like to talk about personal things. But the reasons for the separation were already clear - Andrei Panin often went on a spree. So much so that there was no time for family or work.
According to Panin’s friends, on such days (or even weeks) he locked himself in the apartment, where he drank sometimes alone, and sometimes with drinking buddies. One of his colleagues recalls such an incident. One day Andrei suddenly disappeared - right in the middle of an important filming process. For three days they could not reach him by phone. The hotel said he left in the morning and never returned. The producers sounded the alarm: the downtime of filming was costing a tidy sum! But Panin did not turn on his mobile phone. And only after a few days of searching, the actor’s director Gennady Rusin found him in the capital’s drug treatment clinic on a drip and found out what had happened.
And everything was as always. The tipsy Panin decided to go to Finland, where he drank to the point of unconsciousness. True, Panin could not remember how he ended up in Moscow. Probably the world is not without good people.
"Eastern" trace
By the way, in the entrance of the house on Balaklavsky Avenue, where the artist died, video cameras are installed everywhere. In those days, all TV channels showed recordings in news broadcasts in which Andrei was alone. However, his neighbors are surprised.
One of them, in a private conversation with journalists, said that the concierge saw him that day with a certain young man of oriental appearance who looked like a migrant worker. And after some time this “Asian” rolled head over heels down the stairs and rushed headlong past the guard.
According to neighbors, he was often visited by Asian workers from a construction site located not far from his house. They say he took pity on them, fed them, even helped them with money. Could any of them repay him with evil for good? Andrei Panin was actually mutilated, but knowing the artist who was seriously interested in boxing and was able to stand up for himself, it’s surprising that he allowed this to happen to him. The conclusion is tempting - it means that they first turned him off, perhaps gave him something to drink, and only then killed him... However, none of these guests were among the defendants in the criminal case.
Business and bandit partners? Few people knew that Panin had his own business related to film distribution. An area that has been closely associated with crime since the dashing 90s. And then there is Panin himself - a sharp, explosive person. If anything, he didn’t reach into his pocket for a word. He could have cursed, he could have sent it. Perhaps he sent the “wrong man” or crossed the road in business to the guys who decide “business issues” not at the negotiating table?
By the way, people who knew Panin closely said that he had been having problems all around lately, including in business. So the actor became depressed, falling into a “peak” once again. Gash. Was your body unable to withstand the binge or did someone “help”? Friends shrug their shoulders - they say, since the investigation has already found nothing...
However, Andrei's parents were sure that their son died at the hands of cruel attackers. According to them, the actor once lent a large sum to some cool people to produce a film. They allegedly did not return that money - Andrey got into trouble. In such cases they say: “He stuck his nose where he shouldn’t.” At the time of his death he was 50 years old. The investigation continued until 2015. The criminal case was discontinued “for lack of corpus delicti.”
Three versions of one tragedy
Be that as it may, fierce debate about the causes of the actor’s death led to the emergence of three main versions.
First version. An accident when Panin, in a state of severe alcoholic intoxication, fell, as it was eventually written in the official conclusion, “from the height of his own height” and broke his head. At the same time, the fall could also provoke a heart attack, which was also talked about then.
By the way, regarding the blood all over the apartment - according to experts, having hit his head, the artist could have rushed around the apartment in a panic, trying to call an ambulance, but his mobile phone turned out to be dead. Then the strength ran out...
Second version. According to her, a long binge and a high level of alcohol in the blood first caused a heart attack, and only then a fall, as a result of which Panin had a broken head.
The third version is criminal. The actor was simply beaten to death. And at the beginning of the investigation, experts confidently spoke about this, citing the nature of Panin’s injuries. But in the end, no one was to blame.
By the way, if you remember how Andrei Panin’s hero died in the famous “Brigade”, you draw an analogy with horror. In the film, the actor's character was killed by fracturing his skull. One way or another, it looks like Panin died for real. Everything else has remained a sealed secret for six years now.
PS Andrei Panin’s ex-wife Natalya Rogozhkina then starred in the film “Hugging the Sky” as a doctor. Her partner was Daniil Strakhov, who played a military pilot. According to the script, Natasha’s heroine gives her beloved man permission to fly, but he crashes. An unhappy woman runs out of the house, sees a fallen plane, her eyes are filled with horror, and a silent scream escapes her lips.
The actress was supposed to convey the suffering of the heroine, who had lost a loved one, but the director of the film, Milena Fadeeva, did not like how it was played, and she decided to reshoot the scene. By an evil irony of fate, the shooting was scheduled for March 7th. Natalya arrived at the site, already knowing about the death of her husband, and played the scene with screams and tears. But this was no longer a game...
