From Prosecutor Belsky to Count Panin: How will Sergei Koltakov be remembered?

Sergei Koltakov is a famous theater and film actor who, back in Soviet times, began acting in films and also playing on the theater stage. Despite the fact that Sergei Koltakov’s personal life never worked out, in the 21st century he became more in demand among directors and popular among viewers. The most famous films with the participation of the actor are “New Adventures of the Yankees at the Court of King Arthur”, “Armavir” and “The Brothers Karamazov”.

The artist of Russian cinema and theater was born on December 10, 1955 in Barnaul.

In fact, Koltakov is a versatile personality, but he, like many actors in the art of acting, has certain problems, but this did not become the reason for complete disappointment in life for the actor.

Childhood and youth

Sergey Koltakov was born and raised in Barnaul. The artist’s ancestors are hillbillies, and his father is a military man. It was he who objected to his son studying at the theater school in Saratov, but nevertheless wrote a letter of recommendation to an old acquaintance, the famous countryman Vasily Shukshin, with whom Sergei went to Moscow.

Upon arrival in the capital, it turned out that the note was lost. Nevertheless, the writer was sympathetic to the desire of the talented young man and gave him patronage at VGIK. At the last moment, Koltakov’s pride kicked in. He did not want to break into art “through connections” and instead of the Institute of Cinematography he entered GITIS.

After receiving his diploma, the young actor came to the V. Mayakovsky Theater. Until the end of his life, Sergei admired artistic director Andrei Goncharov, colleagues Tatyana Doronina, Armen Dzhigarkhanyan, Vladimir Samoilov. Thanks to that real school, Koltakov said, he became established in the profession.

Actor and screenwriter Sergei Koltakov has passed away

This sad news became known on September 7, 2021. The Soviet and Russian artist died at the age of 64 from a long, serious illness. It is not yet known what exactly the artist has been ill with lately. Almost until the last days of his life, Sergei Mikhailovich acted in films. His last role in the film “Dead Souls” became fatal and mystical for him. Director Grigory Konstantinopolsky shot a modern version of Nikolai Gogol's famous work "Dead Souls", where Sergei Koltakov played a cameo role.

His colleagues and relatives mourn his death, and remember Sergei Mikhailovich with great warmth and respect. Director Konstantinopolsky, for whom he played his last role, said that he remembered Koltakov as a talented, resilient person, a poet and an optimist despite any difficulties. He notes that Koltakov had a big heart and soul.

Personal life

In response to a question about his personal life, Sergei repeatedly said that in his youth he experienced a strong feeling that remained unrequited, but a poetic gift was discovered in him. In addition, he painted pictures.

Everything changed after Koltakov became popular. But the man correctly assessed the attention from the girls and realized that they were not interested in himself, but in the media that accompanied him.

The actor got married while still a student and quickly divorced. As for children, in an interview he mentioned his daughter. However, neither names nor any other details were revealed, and photographs of the family cannot be found on the Internet.

Sergey Koltakov now

Today, Sergei Koltakov continues to actively act in film, and often receives leading roles.

For example, in 2021, the actor played the main role of the Grand Duke in the parable film “A Bag Without a Bottom.” The film was directed by Rustam Khamdamov, and the plot was based on the famous story of the Japanese classic “In the Thicket” by the Japanese classic Ryunosuke Akutagawa. By the way, the film adaptation of the same work is the famous “Rashomon” by Akira Kurosawa.

The plot of the Japanese novel is based on Russian fairy-tale archetypes. Thus, the framing plot shows a conversation between the Grand Duke, whose role was played by Koltakov, and the old reader, who undertook to tell a fairy tale in which there will be no more than two murders. At the same time, the prince and the reader argue with each other about the plot of the main fairy tale and even remember others.

The inserted part of the film - that very fairy tale - also repeats the plot of the short story "In the Thicket", however, instead of a samurai and his wife in "A Bag Without a Bottom" the prince and princess appear. Plot-wise, the fairy tale also consists of three stories about the death of the prince, showing this moment from different points of view.

2018 promises to be even more fruitful for the actor in new roles. In the film “Svetlana,” dedicated to the biography and life drama of the “Kremlin princess,” the daughter of the leader of the peoples Svetlana Alliluyeva, the actor will play the role of Joseph Vissarionovich Stalin himself.

Also in 2021, the actor will appear in the drama “Ministry”, which tells about the difficult and nervous life of two deputy ministers, in the crime film “THREAT: Trepalov and Wallet” about the confrontation between investigators and robbers who felt complete impunity in post-revolutionary Russia. The artist will also play in the season of the detective series about the life and adventures of Major Cherkasov, which was called “Satan” (the seasons of this series do not have a common title and are released as separate films).

Movies

Thanks to his friendship with Gleb Panfilov, Koltakov made his debut on screen - in the melodrama “Valentina” he played the son of the heroine Inna Churikova. This was followed by a duet with Leonid Filatov in the crime film “Accomplices”. The actor got a taste of fame with the release of the fantasy drama “Mirror for the Hero.” He also worked with the creator of the film, Vladimir Khotinenko, on the adventure film “In the Shooting Wilderness.”

On August 18, he filmed with me - the last day was of filming Dead Souls. A great artist, a great, amazing poet. He was already seriously ill during filming, and everyone knew about it. But he behaved well and was cheerful,” said Konstantinopolsky.
