German Gref: biography, nationality, family, photo, personal life

Zhikharev Pavel Ivanovich - first head of Sberbank

He did not hold this post for much time, exactly two years - from March 1991 to March 1993. These were difficult years both for Russia itself and for its economy and banking system as a whole.

He began his banking career at the Savings Bank of the USSR, where he was hired as a cashier back in 1948. In 1954 he became the deputy of the central Savings Bank. In 1998, he took the position of chairman of Sberbank of the USSR, from which, after reorganization, he moved to chairman of the board of Sberbank of Russia.

German Gref's wife - Yana Gref

In 2004, the chairman of Sberbank of Russia marries Yana Vladimirovna. Their magnificent and chic wedding celebration was discussed on the Internet a year later. The event took place in Peterhof in the Great Hall. This is what gave rise to many rumors, negative reviews and gossip. Many were amazed how such valuable architectural monuments could be rented out. German Gref's wife, Yana Gref, was born on August 5, 1975. Yana is an economist by profession, but she didn’t work in her profession for long. Then I became interested in design and interior design. Today, Yana is the founder of an elite school in the capital.

Biographical milestones

Gref German Oskarovich comes from a family of ethnic Germans who were expelled from Donbass to remote villages of the Kazakh SSR back in 1941. German Oskarovich was born in February 1964 in the small village of Panfilovo, Pavlodar region, Irtysh district, where he graduated from school and began working as a legal adviser in the district agricultural department.

Herman was raised by his mother, Maria Filippovna, who then worked as an economist, and his grandmother. In addition to German, there were two more children in the family: brother Evgeniy and sister Elena, who are today major businessmen. Herman's father was an electrical engineer and died when the boy was barely one and a half years old.

The family of German Gref lived in a small house near the pier. Herman himself was characterized as a very modest, always polite and neat boy who never showed his emotions. Thanks to his origin and upbringing, German Gref speaks and reads German, Russian and English fluently.

From 1982 to 1984 he served in the Soviet army.

In 1990, German Gref received a diploma in Jurisprudence from Omsk State University, where he studied at the Faculty of Law. At Omsk University he continued his professional activities as a teacher.

From 1990 to 1993, he was a graduate student at the Leningrad University Faculty of Law and worked under the supervision of Anatoly Sobchak, to whom he came on the recommendation of S.N. Baburin, who at that time was the dean of the Faculty of Law of the University of Omsk. But German Oskarovich did not defend his dissertation. Her turn came later in another area - in 2011, the defense of her dissertation took place at the Russian Academy of National Economy under the President of the Russian Federation. In his dissertation, German Gref considered the prospects for the development of institutional reforms within the Russian economy.

Childhood and youth

The early years of Yana Gref (nee Golovina) are shrouded in mystery.
Like many celebrities, she prefers not to advertise boring details about her family, friends, and age. However, the date of birth of Yana Vladimirovna is known - 1975. According to some sources, the girl was born in Gelendzhik, into a family of workers at one of the local boarding houses. According to other sources, Yana’s birthplace is Estonia, and the family’s sphere of activity is shrouded in mystery. Surprisingly, there are practically no revelations in the media from childhood friends, classmates and other people who could shed light on these discrepancies in the biography.

After graduating from school, the girl entered a university and received an education as an economist. This information was obtained from Yana herself; the name of the educational institution remains unknown. The novice economist was not interested in working in his specialty. After several years of career experiments, the girl decided to pay attention to her personal life and got married.

Yana Vladimirovna’s first husband was a certain Mr. Glumov. The occupation, age and status of this person are not specified. Considering that the press practically does not mention him, Yana’s first husband does not like publicity. The marriage was unsuccessful, the couple quickly separated. There was a son left, whom the woman raised alone.

Brief history of the bank

Sberbank opened its gates back in 1841 under Nicholas I. By decree of the emperor, two savings banks were created - in Moscow and St. Petersburg, with 20 employees. In 1842, the first savings account was opened, and by the end of the 19th century, the number of people visiting banks was 2 million. In 1860, the institution’s branches performed such operations as:

  • lending to individuals;
  • accounting of bills;
  • registration of deposits;
  • purchase and sale of government securities.

With the advent of Soviet power, the organization’s services expanded: it became possible to make transfers, borrow funds, and buy securities. At the end of 1991 there were 80 thousand branches.

With the advent of the federal state in Russia in 1992, the bank changed its policy and began to work in new, capitalist conditions:

  • the first ATMs and terminals were installed;
  • The Non-State Pension Fund was founded;
  • work has begun - a remote service for client interaction with a personal account.

The bank survived the 1998 default and the 2008-2010 crisis, while increasing the number of clients, performing up to 1 billion transactions per year.

Today, Sberbank includes 11 central branches supervising more than 14 thousand branches throughout Russia. Subsidiaries are based in Ukraine, Kazakhstan, Belarus, Germany, France, Switzerland. The management of the financial organization is carried out by the President of the Board and his deputies.

In 2021, Forbes analyzed the ratings of rating agencies and compiled a list of the most reliable banks in Russia, in which Sberbank took fourth place.[39]

Work at Sberbank

to the post of head of the largest bank in Russia in 2007 . His predecessor, Andrey Kazmin, was sent to work at the Federal State Unitary Enterprise Russian Post. The ex-minister took over the affairs of the former leader, and on the same day Alla Aleshkina, the first deputy chairman of the board, resigned. After this, the new head began cleaning up personnel. Information appeared in the press that Gref raised the salaries of leading employees in order to motivate them to stay. There was a risk that top managers would leave their posts, as Aleshkina did. In subsequent years, Gref occupied the top positions in the ranking of the highest paid managers according to Forbes.

German Oskarovich became the head of Sberbank

While holding the post of head of Sberbank, Gref thought about how to improve the level of service. In 2021, under the guise of a disabled person, he visited one of the bank branches and tried to apply for a loan. Special vestments for this event were provided by Gert. The results of the experiment showed that a lot of work needs to be done on the quality of service for people with disabilities.

Many Russians were skeptical about Gref's disguise. In their opinion, it was possible to improve services for people with disabilities without purchasing an expensive suit. Nevertheless, Gref still heads the largest bank in Russia, although the question of the need for his resignation has already been raised in the State Duma.

Who owns Sberbank

Many citizens mistakenly assume that German Gref is the owner of Sberbank. But in fact, he occupies the highest position within the bank - chairman of its board.

He is a shareholder of Sber, but is far from a key and not the only one. He owns only a 0.003% stake. Despite the fact that this figure seems very small and insignificant, in monetary terms it is several million dollars.

Together with Gref, other citizens also have a small stake in Sberbank, who are also on the board of this bank and work under his supervision:

  • Lev Khasis, first deputy - 0.0013%;
  • Ganeev Oleg, Deputy Chairman of the Board - 0.00053%;
  • Zlatkis Bella, another deputy chairman of the board - 0.0005%;
  • Kuznetsov Stanislav, also deputy chairman - 0.0006%;
  • Alexander Morozov, deputy chairman - 0.001%;
  • Popov Anatoly, deputy chairman - 0.00025%.

As you can see, the largest stake in the board of Sberbank belongs to Gref, but his size is 0.003%. So, you definitely can’t call him the owner of Sberbank

In fact, Sberbank is half a state organization, 50% plus one share is a controlling stake that belongs to the Central Bank of Russia. The rest of the stake is fragmented into very small “pieces”: today, apart from the Central Bank of the Russian Federation, there is not a single Sber shareholder who has a stake of more than 1%.

Government

The biography of German Gref received a key direction during the years of perestroika. The economist got the position of head of the special committee for the development of the Russian Federation. German Gref worked as an economic strategist for 7 years, after which his career began to rapidly move towards ascending to the main political arena of the country.

Economist German Gref

In 1998, he became deputy head of the Ministry of State Property of the Russian Federation. A year later, the economist headed the Center for Strategic Research and joined the board of the Federal Commission for the Securities Market. In 2000, after Vladimir Putin won the presidential election, German Oskarovich was invited to the new government to the post of Minister of Economic Development and Trade of the country.

The main achievements of German Gref in this position were lobbying for the program for Russia’s entry into the WTO, reforming the electricity industry and taxation in the country, thanks to which the Russian Federation reached the European level of economically developed countries, received the status of having a market economy and increased its investment rating.

Oleg is Gref’s son from his first marriage. In 2004 he graduated from Moscow State University. Currently he is vice president of a consulting company (accredited by Sberbank).

Elena Peredriy is the older sister of the hero of this article. After graduating from the Pedagogical Institute, she got married and moved to Nakhodka. She owns a large stake in Primorye Bank. Elena’s daughter, Olga Tyshchenko, is Sberbank’s chief HR specialist.

Evgeniy is Gref's older brother. He does business in Omsk. He is a co-owner of the shopping malls, Geomart, and the Sibir-Ceramics and Technosofia chain stores. In 2008, he received a loan of 500 million rubles from Sberbank. Evgenia's daughter works at.

Tatyana Golovina is the mother of Gref’s wife. Since 2008, he has headed the Rus sanatorium (Gelendzhik), owned by Transneft. All accounts of the medical institution were transferred to Sberbank.

Personal life

The young people got married immediately after finishing school. In 1982, the newlyweds had their first child, son Oleg. At the age of 17, the young man entered the Faculty of Law of St. Petersburg State University, from where after 3 years he transferred to Moscow State University. German Gref's marriage to his first wife broke up even before German Oskarovich entered the government.

The turning point in German Oskarovich’s personal life occurred in 2004. His chosen one was designer Yana Vladimirovna Glumova, founder of the Khoroshevskaya gymnasium.

Their marriage outraged the deputies and was widely discussed in the media, since the ceremony was held in the unique Peterhof nature reserve, the cost of renting the throne room of which reaches several million.
