Vladimir Basov is an actor and director of Soviet cinema. Natural magnetism and charisma attracted women to him, although the artist was far from handsome. All the star's wives were sought-after actresses, natural beauties, whom fans followed in droves.
Basov’s biography includes three official marriages; he produced three heirs: Vladimir, Alexander, and Elizaveta. The sons of the master of cinema followed in their father’s footsteps, connecting their lives with directing and acting.
All marriages broke up due to the artist’s fault. The third wife of Vladimir Pavlovich Basov was Valentina Titova, who, unable to bear her husband’s addiction to the green serpent, left him for Georgy Rerberg.
Valentina Titova before meeting Basov
Valentina Titova was born on February 6, 1942 in the city of Korolev, Moscow Region. The girl’s parents had nothing to do with the world of cinema. Mother is a housewife, father worked at a factory. Soon after Valya’s birth, the family was evacuated to Sverdlovsk and remained there to live after the war.
From an early age, Titova took part in amateur performances at the local Palace of Culture. After school, Valentina became a student at the local theater school. After graduating, she worked for 2 years at the Sverdlovsk Youth Theater.
After which, together with her friend Titova, she went to St. Petersburg and entered the Studio at the Bolshoi Drama Theater. M. Gorky, where she began to work for Georgy Tolstoganov. When Valentina came to Sverdlovsk to visit her parents, the theater named after her came to the city on tour. Vakhtangov.
Titova met Vyacheslav Shalevich and fell madly in love with him. The girl did not suspect that the artist was married, as he immediately responded to the feelings of the beautiful actress. The couple started dating. When Valentina found out about her chosen one’s marriage, she hoped that Slava would soon leave his wife for her.
After a year of relationship, Titova realized that Vyacheslav did not intend to leave the family
The love story of Valentina Titova and Vladimir Basov
Before meeting Titova, Vladimir Basov visited the registry office twice. The director’s first chosen one was actress Rosa Makagonova, his second wife was Natalya Fateeva, who received public recognition after the release of the comedy “Three Plus Two.”
When Basov saw Valentina and was captivated by her beauty, Vladimir Pavlovich was divorced. She came to audition for the main role in the film adaptation of the story by A.S. Pushkin, which was filmed by the director. Despite the fact that Titova previously had experience working in only a few episodes, he approved Valentina, refusing casting to the rest of the contenders.
Note: Some sources claim: Vyacheslav Shalevich introduced Titov to Basov. He wanted to help his beloved break into the world of cinema, but did not expect that Vladimir would fall in love with Valentina.
At evening gatherings with friends, Basov said that he would certainly win the heart of the young beauty (Titova was 19 years younger). Vladimir Pavlovich began to show Valentina signs of attention. The aspiring actress did not take the director’s advances seriously.

Her heart belonged to someone else; the artist hoped that Shalevich would decide to take a serious step. Titova treated Basov with respect as a director and actor. But the girl did not see Vladimir Pavlovich in the role of her husband.
The master was not going to give up and continued the assault on the impregnable fortress. After filming “The Blizzard,” Titova returned to work in the theater. During one of the rehearsals, Valentina received a call and was told that Basov was asking a girl to come to the hotel.
When the actress arrived, the master was not alone in the room; he asked his friend to propose to Titova on his behalf. At the same time, Shalevich called Basov’s room and asked his beloved to come out into the corridor.
The actress was tired of wandering around the hostels, she dreamed of having her own home, raising children, and being loved. Valentina informed Vyacheslav that she was marrying Vladimir Pavlovich. Later, the artist repeatedly heard whispers and reproaches behind her back that she accepted Basov’s offer for selfish reasons.
He already had a name, status, apartment. Valentina is an aspiring actress, whose husband made a star. In his films, Vladimir Pavlovich filmed his wife in the leading roles. Joint work of spouses:
- "Nylon 100%";
- "Dangerous bend";
- "Back to life";
- "Shield and Sword";
- "Blizzard".
Valentina learned to publicly ignore Basov’s office romances, so that spiteful critics would have no reason to rejoice behind her back.
Basov's wife Valentina Titova coped with the roles perfectly. The couple registered their relationship in 1965, when their son Alexander was born. Valentina registered the boy under her last name, giving him the middle name Valentinovich. The director was boiling over how his son would bear someone else’s name. The next day he hurried to take the application to the registry office.
Employees of the state institution met the famous director halfway and registered the marriage on the same day. Until this time, Basov was in no hurry to put a stamp in his passport. He didn’t even come to pick Titova up from the maternity hospital, sending a car for her. Basov’s mother also did not seek to get Valentina as her daughter-in-law.
In 1969, Titova gave birth to a daughter. Elizaveta Basova became a dancer. The presence of two children could not keep the actress close to the director when he began to lean heavily on the bottle. In addition, “well-wishers” regularly informed Titova in which restaurant (most often these were fleeting intrigues) her husband was spending time.
Death by flip phone
And it’s not clear who he took after, so passionate and loving. Mother, Alexandra , was the daughter of a priest. The father is completely Finnish - Pavel Basultainen , an experienced Bolshevik, later changed his last name to the party nickname “Basov”. And son Volodya turned out just like in that joke - a hot Finnish guy. My father, by the way, was also hot-tempered - but he showed his ardor in battles. During the Civil War he fought together with Chapaev. And he died heroically - at a border post in Central Asia.
Article on the topic What were the stars silent about? 10 famous front-line actors of Soviet cinema Basov the son also did not sit in the rear during the Great Patriotic War - he went to concerts with the ensemble he created: they sang, danced, and read poetry. They strengthened the morale of the soldiers right under enemy bullets. Then he commanded the battery. An important German object was captured. That battle was both beneficial and detrimental to him - for his feat he was awarded the Order of the Red Star, but the severe concussion he received would haunt him for a long time throughout his life.
On the love front, he also had plenty of exploits, but Basov preferred to live with his girlfriends in a civil marriage - after the war, men were in short supply, so women agreed to any conditions. And he took his first real “bastion of love” in peaceful life at VGIK, where he entered in 1947. Even in his youth he was not handsome. But, as all the women who had the chance to communicate with him admitted, he emanated incredible energy that was impossible to resist. Later, Basov will be called a “seducer” behind his back.

And here he is - long, lop-eared, talented. She is the gray-eyed beauty Rosa Makagonova . She has experience of performing in front of fighters who were treated in her native Kuibyshev (Samara). She always went on stage in a dress, no matter how cold it was - she’s an actress, she has to keep her mark! I also had cinematic experience - while still a student I managed to star in the film “The Village Teacher”. By the way, you should also remember Rosa - in “The Adventures of Electronics” she played a singing teacher trying to get her students to perform a soulful performance of the song “Winged Swing”. As soon as Basov saw her, he immediately flushed: I’m getting married! And I will star in all my films. And the first one - “School of Courage”, where Rosa played Verka, brings both her and him great success. But Rosa didn’t have much feelings for Basov. At first she was embarrassed by the awkward boyfriend. But it was impossible to resist his onslaught. The young couple signed. They were given a room in a dormitory. Basov was ready to carry Rose in his arms. He got her (sometimes with scandals) roles in films - the bosses already began to ask askance: why is he pushing her everywhere! But there was no happiness... Firstly, those Rosina performances in a light dress in the cold made themselves felt. Doctors diagnosed her with tuberculosis, and then they also killed her, as if this disease alone was not enough: she was never destined to become a mother. Moreover, Basov was jealous of his wife towards everyone, although she gave no reason. It all ended in separation - Rose threw a folding bed at her disgusted husband. Basov jumped away from the folding bed, at first he wanted to be mortally offended, but then he changed his mind and grabbed the folding bed - it would come in handy around the house.

Divorce
Everyone who knew the couple closely said that Valentina devoted little time to the children and housekeeping, spending all her time on the set. Others claim that Vladimir Pavlovich had a very difficult character. He was jealous of his wife, he liked to relieve stress with strong drinks, after which he became uncontrollable.
Alexander and Elizabeth's father said that their mother exchanged them for someone else's man
Gradually, the relationship between the spouses completely went wrong, Titova left Basov, having lived with him under the same roof for 14 years. The last joint work was the film “Days of the Turbins”. Vladimir Pavlovich acted as an actor, screenwriter, and director of the film. Valentina played the main role. At that time, a crisis was already brewing in the family.
Note: The last years of marriage were not easy for the spouses. Basov demanded submission in everything, when he started drinking, Titova recognized her husband from the other side. She wanted to help him give up his bad habit, but the director did not want to undergo treatment.
On the set of the film “Father Sergius,” cameraman Georgy Rerberg drew attention to Valentina Antipovna. A romantic relationship began between them, and soon the actress decided to leave her husband. The divorce from Basov was difficult. Vladimir Pavlovich took the children away from himself through the court.
In Soviet times, this was very rare; servants of justice always met women halfway. For many years the children had neither the opportunity nor the desire to communicate with Valentina Antipovna. Many believe that by doing this, Basov hoped that his wife would return to him.
Happiness didn't work out
Basov left his first wife for Natalya Fateeva, a beauty who broke more than one man’s heart. The actress recalled: “We met on the set of the film “Incident at Mine Number 8.” I turned 21 and he turned 33. A man in his prime. Maybe Basov is not handsome, but he is a beautiful person, with God in his soul... The only problem was that Volodya drank... The time of my marriage turned out to be quite difficult. He was jealous of my appearance, success in cinema and theater. You won’t believe it, but he loved to say gloomily: “When will you grow old, when will you finally be thirty years old?”
In 1959, their son Vladimir was born, who in the future, like his father, became an actor and director. However, the appearance of a son did not save the family. The marriage of Basov and Fateeva lasted five years, but, despite mutual love, the happiness of the spouses was not cloudless. After the divorce, having fallen out of love with Basov, Natalya Fateeva crossed him out of her life.
Vladimir Basov Jr. shared his memories: “Natalya Nikolaevna is a tough woman: since she decided that this person no longer exists for her, she will forget as if he never existed. Mom “protected” me from my father too, saying: “He’s not your father anymore.” But it cannot be said that during my childhood my father and I did not communicate at all. Sometimes he picked me up from the boarding school where my mother sent me, and once a month we always talked on the phone. But, as it turned out later, my father called me much more often, my mother just didn’t call me to the phone - she didn’t think it was necessary...”

Life of an actress after divorce
Titova's second marriage also turned out to be unsuccessful, but the actress lived with Rerberg until his death. Like Basov, the cameraman had official affairs and was absent from work all the time, as he was in demand in his profession. Valentina and Georgy got to the registry office only after 15 years of marriage.
Titova lived in marriage with Rerberg for more than 20 years.
The couple had no children together, but the second husband did not allow the actress’s own son to visit them. Valentina humbly endured all the whims of George. When he died, she never married again. Although the actress always had enough admirers.
Having reconsidered her life, Titova once admitted: it would be better not to get married at all, but to focus all her energy on something useful. The only thing the actress does not regret is having children.
