In general, he did not rule out that a plan for Ukraine’s accession to NATO is currently being worked out - no one knows this for sure, including him. “But there are no guarantees of Ukraine’s entry into NATO. And what were they talking to each other there? What did you agree on? We do not know. But this shout from overseas towards the President of Ukraine, in my opinion, means nothing. We must keep this in mind,” Putin replied.

The Russian leader also doubted that the Ukrainians themselves are asking to join NATO today. According to him, at least half of the country's residents are against this. “And these are smart people. Without irony, and not because others are stupid, but because those who don’t want to understand that they don’t want to be in the line of fire, they don’t want to be bargaining chips and cannon fodder,” Putin noted at the end of the interview.
