Vladimir Zelensky as a child with his mother
Little Vova went to a Mongolian school at the age of 8 - in accordance with the laws of the country. The boy spoke Mongolian fluently, but after returning to Krivoy Rog, without practice, he quickly forgot the language.

Returning to Ukraine, Vladimir began attending a theater group and played sports intensively. He was a restless and active child. In early childhood, Zelensky wanted to become a border guard, and later dreamed of studying to be a diplomat or translator.

Vladimir Zelensky: where he was born, grew up, studied

Zelensky was born on January 25, 1978 in Krivoy Rog. As a child, he lived with his parents for four years in Mongolia, in the city of Erdenet, where he graduated from first grade. Then his family returned to Krivoy Rog, where he studied at school No. 95 with in-depth study of the English language.

In 1995, he entered the Krivoy Rog Economic Institute of the Kyiv National Economic University, where he received a law degree. True, I worked in my specialty for two months - in practice.

Humor and creativity

Vladimir Zelensky entered the local branch of the Kyiv University of Economics, choosing a legal specialty. The student’s creative abilities and sense of humor were immediately noticed: Volodya was invited to choreograph dance numbers in the KVN team “Zaporozhye-Krivoy Rog-Transit”. After some time, Zelensky himself began to participate in performances.

Vladimir Zelensky and the KVN team “95 quarter”

In 1997, Vladimir Zelensky, together with several members of the KVN team, created his own team, calling it “95th Quarter”. He not only acted as team captain, but also wrote scripts for most of the numbers. After 2 years, the KVN Major League invited a talented team to join them. Each performance was highly appreciated by the jury, the guys gained popularity among fans of the famous game and began giving concerts throughout the CIS.

In addition to concert and touring activities, Vladimir Zelensky took up writing scripts for corporate events and concerts. The participation of “95th Quarter” in KVN lasted until 2003, but after a conflict with Zelensky and his team stopped participating in the project.

Ukrainian TV channels became interested in the 95th Quarter. “1+1” approached the talented guys with a proposal to make a whole program, which would include the best numbers. So the KVN team was transformed into “Studio Kvartal-95”, the director and owner of which was Vladimir Zelensky.

Participants in the show “Studio Kvartal-95”
The man is not only a successful comedian and TV presenter, but also a brilliant film actor, who has worked in numerous feature films and musicals. The artist’s cinematic biography began in the early 2000s.

His filmography opened with the comedy project “Reluctant Casanova”; soon the artist played the role of d’Artagnan in the New Year’s musical “The Three Musketeers”. According to the plot of the parody, his faithful friends were presented by artists Anna Ardova, Ruslana Pysanka and Alena Sviridova. Among the comedian’s debut screenplays is the film “Chasing Two Hares.”

In 2005, the program “Evening Quarter” appeared, which was first broadcast by the “1+1” channel, after which the rights to the show were bought by “Inter”. Zelensky acted as the main TV presenter, ideologist and author. The program is quickly becoming a ratings program, and Vladimir’s studio tirelessly releases new projects, not allowing its popularity to fade. Among the most striking are “Fight Club”, “Evening Kyiv” and “Ukraine, Rise Up”.

Vladimir Zelensky and Elena Kravets - “Dangerous Pregnancy”

Zelensky, as one of the brightest stars in show business, is increasingly being invited to become a participant in popular projects and television shows. In 2006, he appeared in the Ukrainian television project “Dancing with the Stars,” where he performed with Alena Shoptenko. As a result, the couple won the TV show, thanks to the audience vote, significantly breaking away from their rivals.

Then Vladimir Zelensky, in a duet with Ruslana Pysanka, becomes the host of the TV show “Office Romance” on the Inter TV channel. In 2010, the artist began starring in the TV show “Make the Comedian Laugh” together with Dmitry Shepelev, and a year later the comedian became co-host of Philip Kirkorov in the Russian TV show “Factor A”.

At this time, the screening of the film “Love in the City” starts on cinema screens, which became Vladimir’s first bright work in full-length film. The romantic comedy stars ex-soloist of the group “VIA Gra” Vera Brezhneva, actors Alexei Chadov, Ville Haapasalo, Anastasia Zadorozhnaya and Svetlana Khodchenkova together with Zelensky.

The film received many positive reviews and was liked by the audience, so after some time the 2nd part was filmed, followed by the 3rd. Then Zelensky starred in the remake of “Office Romance. Our Time" in the role of Novoseltsev, but the film itself was harshly criticized.

From 2010 to 2012, the showman held the position of general producer of Inter, and in 2013 he was invited to host the new music show “I Want V VIA Gro”. Two years later, on the basis of Studio Kvartal-95, the League of Laughter was created, a humorous show in which teams of comedians under the guidance of mentors competed with each other. The program was hosted by Vladimir Zelensky. At one time, Alexey Potapenko, Elena Kravets, Anton Lirnik, Nadezhda Dorofeeva, Vlad Yama and others became judges and trainers of the project.

Vladimir Zelensky in the show “League of Laughter”
According to information published by Forbes, the profit of Zelensky’s studio amounted to $2 million. In 2012, the entire “Kvartal 95” team took 2nd place in the ranking of the 25 wealthiest media projects and stars of the show - business of Ukraine. The artists were second only to Vladimir Klitschko, but surpassed Ani Lorak, Potap and Nastya, and the VIA Gra group in terms of annual income.

Soon Vladimir appeared in the comedy “Rzhevsky against Napoleon” in the role of the French conqueror, but this picture also caused conflicting reviews. Zelensky later played in the romantic comedy “8 First Dates,” and in 2014, the artist’s filmography was expanded with its sequel “8 New Dates.”

In 2015, Studio Kvartal-95 released for Ukrainian viewers a new film in the genre of political comedy, in which many of the most prominent figures of the Ukrainian political beau monde were subjected to sharp satire. The series about politics was called “Servant of the People”, and Vladimir played the President of Ukraine in it. The audience liked the project so much that a sequel was released in 2016.

The same year, the sequel “8 Best Dates” was released. As in the first 2 comedy melodramas, in the third Zelensky appeared in the form of a character named Nikita Sokolov. But the main character, who was played by Oksana Akinshina in previous films, was replaced by Vera Brezhneva.

The artist and showman, together with the Kvartal-95 team, became famous for his production projects, many of which turned out to be popular. First of all, this is the family comedy series “Matchmakers”. Zelensky and his studio presented the audience with 6 seasons and the musical “New Year's Matchmakers.”

In 2012, another comedy series was released - “Dads”, in which Russian cinema stars Roman Madyanov, Sergei Gazarov and Tatyana Dogileva starred. Vladimir turned out to be one of the producers of the film, which received a high rating.

Vladimir Zelensky on the set of the film “I, You, He, She”
In 2021, Vladimir tried his hand as a director for the first time. In collaboration with David Dodson, he took part in the creation of the film “I, You, He, She.” He also became the producer of the project and the leading actor.

The comedian posted his photos in the character on his personal Instagram account. The actor appeared before subscribers with long hair and a mustache. The photographs delighted the comedian's fans. In addition to Zelensky, Evgeny Koshevoy and Nadezhda Dorofeeva appeared on the screen. The wedding comedy premiered at the end of the year.

Acting and KVN

Even while studying at the university, humor became firmly established in the biography of Vladimir Zelensky, the creative and comical student was immediately noticed, maybe his nationality is to blame, it has long been known that Jews are very talented people, especially in the field of art.

At first, the guy staged dance numbers for the KVN team “Zaporozhye-Krivoy Rog-Transit”, and then began to directly take part in the skits. By the way, Vladimir’s work was closely intertwined with his personal life, because his future wife also wrote texts for the guys.

After the team became the champion in 1997, drastic changes were outlined in the biography of Vladimir Zelensky, he created his own group and called it “95 quarter”. He is now not only a captain, but also the author of most of the texts. The team rapidly gained popularity, twice they became the owners of KiViN in light.

In 2003, a clash occurred between the team and the AMiK company, after which Zelensky was made an offer to remain in KVN, as an author and editor, but without a team, but Vladimir refused.

95th quarter

Having gone into free swimming, Vladimir and the guys took on any job, participated in various programs, at one time Zelensky even hosted the cooking show “Mr. Cook”. All the money was put into one box, as a result of which the team grew into the Kvartal-95 studio, and Vladimir became one of its co-owners.

Politics and scandals

At the beginning of the escalation of the military conflict in Ukraine in 2014, Vladimir openly supported the actions of the Ukrainian army in Donbass. But during the Maidan, the comedian did not advertise his moods, and at a press conference dedicated to the release of the comedy “Love in the City 3”, he defined his views on the situation with the words:

"We are with the people."

After the aggravation of the political crisis and the beginning of a violent confrontation in the East of Ukraine, the artist, together with his colleagues, not only performed concerts in front of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, but also donated 1 million hryvnia to the needs of the army.

In his speeches, the comedian more than once made fun of Russia and Russian politicians, not ignoring the country's President Vladimir Putin. Soon, the artist encountered difficulties: on Russian television, work on the next season of the successful Russian-Ukrainian series “Matchmakers” was frozen.

In the winter of 2015, the Investigative Committee of the Russian Federation began checking information about the financing of Ukrainian security forces by Vladimir and other cultural figures. It is noteworthy that the artist himself spoke out against the ban on the entry of Russian colleagues into Ukraine.

Vladimir Zelensky and Yevgeny Koshevoy
At home, not everyone likes Zelensky’s jokes about Russia either. In 2014, the showman ended up in the hospital with multiple hematomas on his body. The attackers beat the artist late in the evening on the Kyiv embankment, and, as the comedian later noted in an interview, “they were pro-Russian.” It is unknown how the story would have ended if not for a random passer-by who threatened to call the police. Vladimir generously thanked his savior.

In December 2014, unknown persons set fire to Zelensky’s SUV parked near the Ukraine Palace in Kyiv. A year later, information appeared that employees of the Ministry of Internal Affairs neutralized members of a gangster group who were preparing an assassination attempt on the comedian. The attackers’ plans included an attack on members of Vladimir’s family. After this incident, the artist was forced to hire security.

Vladimir Zelensky jokes about Ukraine in Jurmala

In 2021, a new scandal broke out, caused by the jokes of Zelensky and Kvartal-95 in Jurmala. This time the comedian was offended at home. The reason, as some thought, was an overly sharp recapitulation of the economic situation in Ukraine. The artist compared his country to a “beggar” that begs neighboring countries for money and absolutely does not return it.

In 2021, Zelensky began work on the 7th season of the series “Matchmakers,” which the Ukrainian authorities did not like. The film was banned in Ukraine, and Fyodor Dobronravov was banned from entering the country for 3 years.

The authorities turned out to be adamant, and Vladimir had to interrupt filming of the next season of the sitcom. The producer posted an angry message to politicians on his personal Facebook profile. After 3 months, the leading actor confirmed that the issue of continuing filming had already been resolved positively.

The President of the Russian Federation gave a frank interview about Ukraine, which is “being created as an antipode to Russia”

“Some experts generally believe that this interview is the worst that Putin has given during his work,” say political scientists, analyzing the reasons for the release of the Russian President’s unexpected revelations about Ukraine. Vladimir Putin gave an interview where he spoke in detail about Vladimir Zelensky’s latest initiatives on indigenous peoples and Ukraine’s accession to NATO. Read about why the Russian leader compared what was happening in his neighbors with the events in Nazi Germany and what signals he sent to the US President before the meeting in the BUSINESS Online material.

Vladimir Putin: “To talk about Russians as non-indigenous people is not only incorrect, but ridiculous and stupid. This doesn't fit the story at all. The division into indigenous, first-class or second-class people definitely looks like, reminiscent of the theory and practice of Nazi Germany” Photo: kremlin.ru

“This is absolutely unacceptable and does not comply with any norms of international humanitarian law!”

“Of course, negatively. How else can one treat this? — Russian President Vladimir Putin in an interview with Russian journalist Pavel Zarubin about his attitude to the latest initiative of Ukrainian leader Vladimir Zelensky . The conversation with the Russian leader, which did not take place in an office and without ties, which seems to hint at its spontaneous nature, aired in the evening and turned out to be entirely dedicated to Ukraine. And this despite the fact that exactly a week later Putin will meet with US President Joe Biden .

During the interview, Zarubin asked Putin about his attitude to Zelensky’s recent bill “On the Indigenous Peoples of Ukraine,” in which, “if you read it carefully,” it turns out that Russians are the non-indigenous people of Ukraine. The President of the Russian Federation, commenting on this document, which he managed to familiarize himself with, reminded Zelensky about the history of his country, that, in general, Ukraine is “a product of the Soviet period.” Even earlier, in 1654, during the Pereyaslav Rada, the peoples living on the territory of Ukraine, when joining the Russian state, called themselves Orthodox and Russian. Putin said that in the near future he is even ready to write a separate article on this matter in the spirit of the one he wrote about the beginning of World War II.

“Talking about Russians as non-indigenous people is not only incorrect, but ridiculous and stupid. This does not correspond to history at all,” Putin said. — The division into indigenous, first-class or second-class people definitely looks like, reminiscent of the theory and practice of Nazi Germany. What about people with mixed blood? Zelensky himself is Jewish by nationality. What to do with these people? They, as in Nazi Germany, will now measure skulls with compasses and determine, as was the case with real and fake Aryans, so here they will begin to determine real or fake Ukrainians? I'm not even talking about other components. I saw this project. One of the articles there sounds something like this: Indigenous peoples cannot be discriminated against. There is a general legal rule according to which everything that is not prohibited is permitted. If Indigenous people cannot be discriminated against, then can non-Indigenous people? Including Russians? But we are not talking only about them: Romanians, Poles, Hungarians. This is absolutely unacceptable and does not comply with any norms of international humanitarian law.”

When asked why international organizations do not react to this scandalous document, Putin answered as follows: “Because Ukraine is being created as an antipode to Russia. Therefore, they prefer not to notice anything, including swastikas, with which neo-Nazis walk around the cities of Ukraine.” By this logic, the international community will continue to ignore this situation. “This is such a powerful blow to the Russian people as a whole. This cannot be indifferent to us,” Putin, in turn, said.

“Or maybe they just told him: “You got out too early...”

The second half of the interview was devoted to Russia’s international relations with Ukrainian and American partners. Putin said that when he was offered to meet with Zelensky, only international security issues were put on the agenda, without explaining what it meant - Crimea, Donbass... “So many problems have accumulated in bilateral relations that it would be necessary to talk about it,” - said the President of the Russian Federation.

According to him, when he stated that Zelensky should first talk with the residents of Donbass, he meant a direct clause in the Minsk agreements, to which Ukraine itself signed. The Zelensky administration’s refusal to hold such meetings “suggests that today’s Kyiv authorities simply have no desire to implement the Minsk agreements.”

During the interview, Zarubin also asked Putin how he felt about the recent embarrassment over the transcript of a telephone conversation between Biden and Zelensky, when the former allegedly stated the importance of Ukraine joining NATO, although the American leader did not actually say that. Putin doubted that everything was exactly as it was played out in the press.

“How do we know this? Or maybe they just told him: “You got out too early.” It’s too early to talk about this, and you came out of place. A summit meeting of the two presidents is now being organized. Why are you bothering us, spoiling the situation before the summit? Couldn’t you keep silent for a few days?’” Putin responded and spoke in some detail about the prospects for Ukraine’s accession to NATO. He recalled that when NATO expanded to the East, the interests and concerns of other states were always ignored. This, according to Putin, indicates that the United States places its geopolitical interests above the interests of other countries.

“The expansion of NATO to the East and the bringing of infrastructure closer to our borders are of practical importance for Russia. Why? Here Poland and Romania became members of NATO. The Americans easily agreed with them to place missile defense systems there. Launchers of these systems can be used in strike complexes that reach the center of Russia, Moscow, and in a very short time. 15 minutes - flight time to Moscow. Let's imagine that Ukraine becomes a member of NATO. The flight time from Kharkov or Dnepropetrovsk to the central part of Russia will be reduced to 7–10 minutes. Is this a red line for us? If we take what would be dangerously unacceptable for the United States - the deployment of our missiles in Cuba, the flight time to the central industrial region of the United States, Washington, is 15 minutes. And in order for this time to be reduced to 7-10 minutes, it would be necessary to place our missiles on the southern border of Canada or on the northern border of Mexico. Is this a red line for the US? And for us? Someone should actually think about this,” Putin said.

In general, he did not rule out that a plan for Ukraine’s accession to NATO is currently being worked out - no one knows this for sure, including him. “But there are no guarantees of Ukraine’s entry into NATO. And what were they talking to each other there? What did you agree on? We do not know. But this shout from overseas towards the President of Ukraine, in my opinion, means nothing. We must keep this in mind,” Putin replied.

The Russian leader also doubted that the Ukrainians themselves are asking to join NATO today. According to him, at least half of the country's residents are against this. “And these are smart people. Without irony, and not because others are stupid, but because those who don’t want to understand that they don’t want to be in the line of fire, they don’t want to be bargaining chips and cannon fodder,” Putin noted at the end of the interview.

“The big guys got together and decided, and you, Zelensky, take it into execution”

Experts note that this entire interview was intended not so much for a domestic audience and not even for Ukraine, but for Biden, so that his specialists would study the Russian position specifically for the meeting with Putin.

“Putin wants to put some topics on the agenda even before Zelensky conveys his version of what is happening to the US President in personal communication and with numerous requests accompanying this communication,” says the head of the Political Expert Group Konstantin Kalachev, noting that Ukraine is counting on real help, including funding, increasing defense capabilities (including the topic of lethal weapons) and joining NATO. “Putin is proactive and decided to escalate things.” Accusing Zelensky of Russophobia and comparing him to Nazism is an absolute escalation.”

According to Kalachev, the entire interview was given for the sake of words that there are no guarantees that Ukraine will not join NATO, intended for an internal audience. “Putin is really worried that the partnership between Kyiv and Washington could turn into an allied one,” the expert believes.

For external audiences, he said, Putin's goal was to emphasize that Russia would be constructive if Russians had equal rights with Ukrainians in Ukraine. If the Biden-Putin talks do not go well, there could be an escalation of confrontation with NATO maximizing its presence on Russia's borders.

“Some experts generally believe that this interview is the worst that Putin has given during his work, because it talks about the reality of a big war. I don’t think this is the worst interview and I don’t believe in a big war, but I think that for Putin the issue of Ukraine’s membership in NATO is a very sore subject,” concluded Kalachev.

Zelensky’s bill on indigenous peoples in itself is a reason for Putin’s reaction, regardless of the upcoming meeting with Biden, says political scientist Vadim Mezhuev . But now everything must be perceived in one way or another in the context of the meeting of the leaders of the two states. “Because of this law, Biden has a motive to retreat a little from Zelensky, because they are passing an openly Nazi law. Putin points out to him: “Look what kind of state you are defending,” and gives him the opportunity to demonstrate the non-identity of the positions of Washington and Kyiv for the sake of preserving relations with Russia. I don’t know whether Biden will take advantage of this, but such a reason appears,” says the expert.

And political scientist Pavel Salin expects from the meeting between Biden and Putin that Russia itself will make numerous concessions that the United States needs, including, perhaps, Afghanistan, Syria, and Venezuela. “In exchange for this, Putin expects two steps from the American side: the first concerns non-interference in transit, and the second is Ukraine, so that the Americans indicate to Zelensky that they need to meet halfway in certain areas. Russia is precisely outlining its wishes and red lines,” he argues.

Salin notes that it is important for Putin that the Ukrainian issue be resolved exclusively on the Russian-American track. Zelensky, according to him, is shown that, despite the fact that Ukraine supports the United States, in fact, compared to Russia, it is a second-tier power. “The big guys - Putin and Biden - got together and decided, and you, Zelensky, take action. For such a picture to emerge, it is necessary that before Putin’s meeting with Biden, Zelensky does not meet with either one. Everything is clear with Putin - Zelensky came out with the initiative, but they immediately made it clear to him that there would be no meeting. Then he tried to come from the American side,” says the political scientist.

And he associates the US hesitation on this matter with the fact that Biden, unlike Donald Trump , is the personification of the system, a relay of signals from the American deep state. “There are two positions there: a tougher one and a softer one, they are fighting among themselves. And Biden’s entire Ukrainian policy is a reflection of such a confrontation, plus there is a personal point that Biden is seriously offended by Zelensky and the Ukrainians after all the scandals with information leaks from Ukraine,” he says.

Personal life

Vladimir Zelensky is in the prime of his life and creative plans: in 2021 he celebrated his 40th birthday. With a height of 170 cm (as reported by the actor himself), he has a fit, athletic figure, and his weight is around 63 kg.

The artist is married to Elena Kiyashko, whom he dated for 7 years before the wedding. The couple have known each other since childhood; they studied in parallel classes at school. Elena acts as one of the authors of Studio Kvartal-95, despite the fact that she is also a lawyer by training. The couple got married in 2003, after the 95th Quarter team left KVN. A year later, the comedian became the father of Sasha’s daughter. In 2013, Elena Zelenskaya gave birth to her second child, son Kirill.

Vladimir Zelensky with his wife and daughter
According to the comedian’s friends and relatives, Vladimir is an exemplary family man. He calls the main quality of a real man responsibility for his children, family and loved ones. The showman admits that he spoils his daughter and son, as well as his wife, trying to compensate for his frequent absence.

Rumors and gossip about his personal life did not spare Vladimir either. In 2012, on the set of the series “8 First Dates,” the artist met Oksana Akinshina. Rumor has it that a romance broke out between the couple, and at one time the artists dated. But Vladimir himself, in one interview, denied these speculations and laughed at the journalists’ imagination.

Ukrainian presidential elections

In the spring of 2021, Ukraine froze in anticipation of the next presidential elections, which took place on March 31, 2021. One of the presidential candidates was Vladimir Zelensky. They started talking about his alleged participation in the election campaign back in the summer of 2018.

Vladimir Zelensky - “I’m going to the polls”

On December 31, 2021, Zelensky officially announced that he was running for president. His performance on the 1+1 TV channel took place on the very eve of the New Year. The channel's management took such a step to the detriment of the congratulatory speech of the current President Petro Poroshenko, which was made later.

Already in his first address to the people, Zelensky outlined the main postulates of his election program on a number of pressing issues: the cessation of hostilities in Donbass, the building of relations with the IMF, the European Union, NATO, etc.

On January 21, 2021, the name of Vladimir Alexandrovich was successfully registered in the list of candidates for the post of head of state. Zelensky’s candidacy was nominated on its own behalf by the Servant of the People party. This organization was formed 3 years ago, at first its name sounded like “Party of Decisive Changes”. The head is Ivan Bakanov, who is also promoting the humorous “Studio Kvartal-95”.

Vladimir Zelensky in 2021
Very quickly, Vladimir Alexandrovich became the leader of the election race. Already at the end of January, a number of sociological companies recorded a 21% rating of the candidate, who was ahead of his closest opponents Petro Poroshenko and Yulia Tymoshenko by 5-6%. And in early February, 5-7% more respondents voted for the actor than 2 weeks ago.

Political scientists explain this popularity of Vladimir by the non-standard form of the election campaign. The producer covers the presidential race in the format of an online Internet show, almost constantly introducing social network subscribers to the events of his political activities.

On March 31, 2021, Vladimir Zelensky, who received 30.24% of the votes, and Petro Poroshenko (15.95%) advanced to the second round, leaving their competitors behind. The elections, as expected, were accompanied by news stories, scandals, provocative speeches and videos.

On April 21, the second round of the presidential elections in Ukraine took place, in which Vladimir Zelensky won an unconditional, almost triple, victory, according to the exit poll. Petro Poroshenko admitted his defeat and offered his help to the new head of state, which Zelensky is in no hurry to refuse.
