Place of Birth: | St. Louis, USA |
Zodiac sign: | Scorpion |
Activity: | Journalist, political scientist |
Once arriving in distant Russia, Michael Bohm stayed late. For almost two decades he has appeared on federal channels as a participant in political programs and a consultant from the United States. His homeland does not see him as a famous journalist, but in Russia he is quite successful and famous . Perhaps he will soon become one of the Russian citizens.
Childhood and youth
Michael Bohm was born in the American town of St. Louis on November 8, 1965. In addition to him, his parents raised another son and daughter.
Thinking about his future profession, the young man entered the School of International Affairs at Columbia University in New York. Bohm chose the study of Russia as his specialty. The preferences were justified by the rich political life of the country and the large number of interesting events taking place in this area in Russia.

Michael Bohm as a child (second from left in the bottom row)
The first acquaintance with Russia, then still the Soviet Union, took place in 1987. It turned out to be long: Michael worked in a foreign country for 10 years, but was forced to return to his homeland, receiving a position in the insurance business. After becoming an office clerk, Bohm realized that he should devote himself to an activity that awakens his emotions and love for work. Politics and journalism from that moment were his life's work.
In the United States, this area was not of particular interest: politicians did not have a strong personality, such as Vladimir Zhirinovsky. Their speeches were predictable, and their programs with government representatives were bland and boring. Laws in the United States govern the exact actions and behavior in most cases. And in Russia there are loopholes for discrepancies and convenient interpretations, which provokes controversy around them.

In those years, Michael first tried his hand at the large-format genre, writing his debut book about the Russian mentality. The publication was released in a limited number of copies and was not in demand. Apart from his passion for Russia, nothing is known about the biography and youth of Michael Bohm. A journalist prefers to leave his personal life out of the reach of the media. The public can only focus on the characteristics of the media person, which are revealed through his performances.
Career: early years
At first, after completing his studies at the university, he gets a permanent job, but not in the field of political science and journalism, but in the field of insurance services. He worked as an office worker for ten years. All this time I diligently studied politics. He did not like the position in the insurance business, although it brought in a lot of income. Therefore, Michael begins to study Russia in depth.
Such work gradually turned into the first book, which dealt with the unique mentality and characteristics of the Russian people. Several years of hard work were put into the brochure, but no one appreciated the printed creation.
At first it was quite difficult for him to communicate in a foreign language. Soon he begins to speak freely and express his opinions without an interpreter. Currently, it is difficult to distinguish him from a native resident of Moscow; in his speech he likes to use folk proverbs and aphorisms, which surprises his interlocutors. After a long search for himself, Michael finally decides to plunge headlong into the world of politics and appears on the big screen for the first time.
Journalism
In the early 2000s, returning to Russia, Michael made his debut as a guest on a program about politics. The observer was invited to the show “Judge for yourself,” hosted by Maxim Shevchenko. The project was accompanied by a scandalous reputation, so the appearance of a representative of the American side turned out to be a fresh development. The interest of the audience increased sharply, as many were curious to hear a view of what was happening in Russia from representatives of direct opponents. Michael still had difficulty speaking Russian at that time, so he was accompanied to the show by a translator.
Journalist Michael Bohm / Facebook
In 2007, Michael Bohm received an invitation to the Moscow Times newspaper to serve as editor of the Opinions section. He held this position until 2014. After leaving the publication that had become his home, Bom acquired the status of an independent journalist. He was first invited to cooperate by the radio “Echo of Moscow” and the newspaper “Moskovsky Komsomolets”. Later, the sought-after journalist received an offer to become a teacher at the Moscow State Institute of International Relations.
As an expert, he began to be invited to participate in political programs. There are rumors about whether guest participation is a paid service, but they are not confirmed. The name of Michael Bohm became recognizable to the audience after participating in one of the socio-political programs of the NTV channel. The journalist spoke out in support of the rights of homosexuals, in response to which he received a wave of condemnation from the host of the program and studio guests. The expert did not change his point of view, which earned him the respect of the public.
2015 turned out to be the peak of popularity for Michael Bohm. The foreigner appeared on broadcasts dedicated to political debates. He was invited to the studio of the shows “Politics”, “Meeting Place”, “Duel”, “Special Correspondent”. Most often, the organizers of the program “Time will tell” turned to the journalist’s opinion. Speaking about patriotic feelings for his native country, Bohm objectively perceives criticism and is capable of dialogue. This is very rare for participants in political discussions in Russia.
The conflict between Michael Bohm and Artem Sheinin in the show “Time Will Tell”
The specific atmosphere that reigns in programs of this kind, provoking conflicts and often fights, does not bother the international expert. In 2021, on the air of the “Time Will Tell” show, he accidentally became a participant in a brawl that began due to a negative response from host Artem Sheinin, who attacked the expert with his fists.
Nevertheless, Michael is happy to participate in projects where the guests are people who are not indifferent to the political situation. In the aggravated and difficult relations between Russia and the United States, the journalist often finds himself under psychological pressure from opponents, but steadfastly survives them, defending his own point of view. According to the American, he considers himself an “unofficial public diplomat.”
In 2021, information appeared in the media that a book authored by Michael Bohm appeared on store shelves. A publication called “Putin’s Mistakes” began to be sold under his name. Bom decided to sue the scammers, and a series of lawsuits haunts him until 2021.
Michael Bohm and the KVN team “Team Great Britain”
The specificity of Bohm’s public performances was appreciated by members of the KVN team “Team Great Britain”. In 2021, the journalist was invited to participate in a sketch shown at the Moscow Mayor's Cup.

Personal life
Little is known about the family of the American journalist. He is scrupulous about maintaining the privacy of his personal life, does not make his relationship public and does not share photos that highlight his everyday life. It is known that Michael was married to a Russian woman. His wife's name was Svetlana, the girl was 16 years younger than her husband. The wedding took place in Russia in 2013 and was probably caused by the fact that the lovers were planning children. Michael very soon became the father of a daughter, who was named Nicole.

Michael Bohm in the gym
Michael is a fan of a healthy lifestyle, he tries not to drink alcohol and goes to the gym. By the way, Vladimir Solovyov chooses the same club as Bom. The journalist often visits the United States to visit his relatives: his parents and brother and sister.
It is curious that, while living in Russia, Bohm did not abandon the beliefs characteristic of an American. He prefers the subway to cars and retains the pragmatism and prudence inherent in this nation.
Michael Bohm's height is 168 cm.
Under cover of secrecy
There is very little information about his personal life, parents and the composition of his first family on the Internet - journalists are not movie stars, ready to promote themselves on everything, even on certain events of their personal life. In this regard, Michael is one of those who prefers to remain silent about his origins. However, a number of facts from his biography are still known. For example, his mother's name is Nancy Bohm, and his father's name is Robert (Bob) Bohm.
Michael Bohm now
Bohm continues to work as an independent expert and often appears on political shows. Michael is a regular guest on the programs “The Right to Vote” and “Time Will Tell.” The journalist uses the social networks Twitter and Facebook and comments on most television appearances on his personal accounts.

In addition to his expert activities, Michael is involved in charity work and acts as a journalism teacher in several Moscow schools.
"Whipping Boy"
Michael Bohm very often appears on TV screens as an invited guest. And, although he has repeatedly admitted that in the studio he feels “like in a cage with tigers,” he still continues to come to various political talk shows. No matter how pathetic his excuse may sound, he is sure that this is precisely his “journalistic duty.” After all, besides him, almost no one wants to defend the interests of the United States of America, when on the one hand Vladimir Zhirinovsky is pressing on you, and on the other, also Vladimir, but this time Solovyov.
Very often, a verbal skirmish on the screen threatens to turn into a fist fight, but Michael Bom is still glad that he is invited to the broadcasts. He always patiently waits for the opportunity to express his own point of view, which most often does not coincide with the line of the majority. But nevertheless, the American continues to stand his ground and, it is worth noting, behaves very professionally and never descends into banal insults.
It is not for nothing that there is a joke among TV viewers that Bom is called to these programs as the so-called “whipping boy.” Maybe it's true, or maybe it's just the only American who comes to these talk shows. By the way, it is still not clear whether Michael Bom receives money for his appearance on Russian television channels or does it absolutely disinterestedly, wanting to protect the interests of his country.
Participation in TV shows
Michael Bohm several times became a participant in the talk show “Duel” by Vladimir Solovyov. At first his opponent was Semyon Arkadyevich Bagdasarov, and the next time - V.V. Zhirinovsky. In both of these cases, Michael lost by decision of the viewers.
Among other things, Bohm repeatedly visited “Special Correspondent”, “Majority”, “First Studio”, “Right to Know!” and many other famous Russian political programs.
