The fate of the Soviet beauty Nino Beria after the shooting of her husband

Acquaintance

Nino first met Beria when her relative Sasha Gegechkori went to prison: the girl was carrying packages for him. When Nino’s brother was arrested, she came to Beria to ask for him. Soon after this they got married. The girl was then only 16 years old, and Beria was six years older. But at that time, such a marriage was the norm. Nino categorically denied rumors circulating among the people that Lavrentiy had allegedly kidnapped her.

Nino Teymurazovna herself spoke about those events as follows: the USSR government was going to send Lavrenty Pavlovich for research in Belgium. But there was a mandatory condition: Beria had to travel only if he was married. Nino agreed to become his wife, wanting to start her own family. In 1924, their son Sergo was born.

Nina Beria was devoted to her tyrant husband all her life

Nina Beria was devoted to her tyrant husband all her lifePhotos from open sources; In the photo: Nina Beria Already every even more or less knowledgeable historian knows who exactly Lavrentiy Beria really was. The People's Commissar of Internal Affairs of the USSR became famous not only for his impressive execution lists, but also for the molestation of women of all ages. He took on countless lovers, many of whom were with him only to save their own lives. However, those who refused Beria did not live long. Usually they ended up behind bars or in the Gulag, and some even ended up at the “cherished wall” of the NKVD. However, with all his passion for women, Lavrenty Beria managed to get married. Moreover, his wife Nina Beria lived with him for 30 years and flatly refused to believe in all her husband’s crimes. So, who, in fact, was the wife of the great tyrant and psychopath, who almost became the absolute leader of the USSR? In fact, there are a huge number of different secrets and mysteries. Nobody knows how exactly Beria met his future wife. There is only some information that can be either true or outright false. Nina herself never acknowledged her husband’s atrocities and supported him in everything. However, it is not known exactly why she did this. It is likely that she perfectly understood who she was dealing with and what kind of person her chosen one was. Some analysts speculate that Nina could have been an ordinary concubine of Beria and not have any rights at all. In addition, there is the concept of Stockholm syndrome, when the victim of a maniac becomes attached to him. It is believed that Nina met Beria thanks to... rape. Researcher Zenkovich in his works sets out an interesting version of their first connection. Nina Teymurazovna, being a 16-year-old young girl, came from a distant Georgian village to Beria himself to ask for a relative who was under investigation. Lavrentiy had already received minor powers of power. He invited her into his compartment, locked the door, and raped her there. He kept her with him for several days, and only then forcibly asked her to marry him. Nina denied such information, declaring that they had known each other for many months, and only after that, Lavrenty offered her his hand and heart. The most interesting thing here is that Beria at that time was only 22 years old, and his wife was 16. However, marrying a minor did not raise any eyebrows. Nina Teymurazovna Beria always defended her husband and never allowed him to be reviled. Regarding the marriage, she said that everything happened by mutual consent. She always denied the version of rape. Unlike the wives of other party leaders of the USSR, Beria’s wife was never subject to repression or harsh laws. In the Kremlin, she was considered perhaps the first beauty of the country. She always wore the most elegant and exciting outfits in which she looked flawless. Thousands of women throughout the USSR envied her. She also had an unsurpassed intelligence and an amazing sense of style. As Nina once said, everything went to pieces only after her husband was accused of treason and dragged to the dungeons of the KGB. During the investigation, she spoke about the purity and decency of Lavrenty Pavlovich. She also claimed that all the women with whom her husband allegedly had connections were in fact representatives of the security service. According to her, Lavrenty simply did not have time for love affairs. He spent all his time hunting down enemies of the state. Whether this is true or not will never be known. Even shortly before her death, Nina Teymurazovna constantly defended and justified her husband. She also denied his participation in mass repressions against those objectionable to the Soviet regime.

Family life

The family, however, never left for Belgium. The couple lived in Georgia, then moved to Moscow. There Nino Beria began working at the Timiryazev Academy. The husband became one of Joseph Stalin's closest circle of confidants, dealing with industrial safety issues.

Nino often became the object of envy on the part of other “Kremlin wives”, thanks to her amazing beauty, intelligence, tact, grace and style. But soon there was no reason for envy: alarming changes came in the life of the family.

After the execution

When Beria was shot, Nino and Sergo were exiled to Sverdlovsk - after 16 months of imprisonment in solitary confinement. There the son got a job as an engineer. They were under constant surveillance for several more years, and then tried to return to Nino’s homeland - Georgia. It didn’t work out: the family was forcibly sent back to Russia.

Some time later, Nino Beria fell ill. She and her son were allowed to move to Kyiv, where she spent the rest of her days. Nino Teymurazovna died in the mid-90s, Sergo briefly outlived his mother - he died in 2000.

Interview

At the end of her life, Nino gave a detailed interview, where she told the whole story of her marriage with Lavrenty and the details of her subsequent life. The elderly woman demonstrated her previous devotion to her husband, justifying his activities. According to Nino, Lavrenty Pavlovich had nothing to do with the mass repressions that he is so often accused of: they moved to Moscow when the saddest events were already behind them.

Nino Teymurazovna also emphasized that she was happy with everything in her family life: her husband was a quiet, caring and calm, devoted family man. The woman believes that he served “higher purposes.”

At the end of the interview, Nino, who at that time was approaching 90 years old, handed over a letter to her relatives in Tbilisi, writing that her love for her homeland and family remained unchanged.

Beautiful, caring and faithful: what was Lavrentiy Beria’s wife like?

Lavrentiy Beria - Soviet politician, head of the NKVD, right hand of Joseph Stalin. His activities still cause many different controversies and opinions. The politician's name is often associated with global repression and numerous immeasurable crimes. People often called it “death functionality”; the lives of many Soviet citizens depended on Beria’s decision.

There were also many different rumors and speculations surrounding the personal life of the statesman. It was rumored that Lavrenty had a sick passion for the opposite sex, especially young girls. The only person who did not believe all the rumors was the politician’s wife, Nino. She was faithful to him to the last and tried with all her might to justify him.

There are two completely different stories about how the future spouses met. Which of them is true, most likely we no longer know. According to the first version, Lavrentiy forcibly married a young girl to himself. At the time of meeting Beria, Nino Gegechkori was only 16 years old.

The desperate girl came to Sukhumi to meet with the head of the NKVD himself to ask for pardon for her older brother, who at that time had already been arrested. But she doesn’t have time and finds out that he is going to Tbilisi. Nino follows him and boards the same train. There, Lavrentiy calls the girl to his compartment, where he holds her for several days and brutally rapes her. Later he proposes to Nino to become his wife.

However, Gegechkori herself denied this version of the acquaintance, and the woman told the press a completely different version. In fact, Beria proposed marriage to her after several months of their acquaintance. Nino herself was far from being from the common people. Her father was a nobleman, her uncle was a Menshevik Freemason who headed the Georgian government in the 1920s, and another served as Georgia's foreign minister.

In the post-Soviet years, Nino was left an orphan; she began to live with the family of her uncle Sasha Gegechkori, who was a former Bolshevik. It was her uncle who was under arrest, and her niece was carrying parcels for him. At that moment she met Beria, who was a cellmate of a relative. After some time, Lavrentiy came to the Gegechkori family to ask for the hand of the girl who had fallen so deeply into his soul.

However, Nino’s relatives opposed it, since the girl was only 16 years old at that time. But the girl went against the wishes of her relatives and married 22-year-old Beria. The young couple first lived in Georgia, and after Lavrenty began to engage in political activities, they moved to Moscow. Soon he was in the circle of those close to the leader of the USSR. Nino gave birth to her wife's son Sergo. However, Beria practically did not live with his family. There is a version that he had another family on his side.

Throughout all these years, Nino has been a faithful wife for Beria. She was always distinguished by elegance, good manners and a great sense of humor. She was also more than once called the most beautiful of the Kremlin wives of the USSR. After Lavrenty's arrest, his wife and son were sent into exile. Later they returned to Moscow. After Beria’s death, Nino tried to defend her husband’s honor to the last. She remained faithful to her husband until the end of her life.
