82-year-old Adriano Celentano. What does the idol of millions look like now and what does he do?

82-year-old Adriano Celentano. What does the idol of millions look like now and what does he do?

Magnificent, incomparable, legendary - these are the words that can describe the famous Italian Adriano Celentano. Yes, and how else can we say about a man who has 40 successful film roles, about 600 songs (many of which became hits) and 40+ music albums, whose circulation amounted to 150 million copies?

On January 6, 2021, the king of the Italian stage and sex symbol of several generations turned 82 years old. But Adriano Celentano is still full of strength and creative energy. He records songs, releases albums and even made a cartoon, the main character of which is like two peas in a pod like himself.

“He went to school to pretend to be a clown.”

Celentano inherited a passion for music. The fact is that his mother Giudita simply adored rock and roll and even in the morning, instead of an alarm clock, she played a record with her favorite compositions for her children.

True, my mother did not really like the fact that her youngest son Adriano was growing up as a naughty boy - he did poorly at school, skipped classes, and in response to the teacher’s comments he acted out entire performances for the amusement of his classmates.

“It seemed to me that he went to school in order to meet with friends and once again pretend to be a clown,” recalled the mother of the famous artist.

The death of his father forced the boy to come to his senses. 12-year-old Adriano was forced to leave school and become an apprentice in a watch workshop. Well, in his free time, Andriano played in amateur performances, participated in various music competitions and tried to compose songs himself.

The nickname “molleggiato” stuck to Celentano for the rest of his life - on springs

In 1957, the Rock Boys group, of which Celentano was one of the members at the time, took part in the first Italian rock and roll festival. The song “Ciao ti dirò”, written by Adriano, impressed the jury and the guys were awarded first place.

And a year later, Adriano alone became the winner of a music festival held in the city of Ancona, performing his own song “Il tuo bacio è come un rock.” The audience was delighted not only with the vocal abilities of the young singer, but also with his amazing plasticity. After this performance, Adriano Celentano was given the nickname “molleggiato” for the rest of his life, which translated from Italian means “on springs”.

Celentano created his own record company

After a successful debut, Celentano's career as a singer immediately took off. And when Adriano took second place at the prestigious song festival in San Remo, she immediately signed a contract with him to release several albums.

True, Celentano’s collaboration with “Jolly” was short-lived. The singer did not like that the lion's share of the income goes to the company, and he gets much less. Therefore, he broke the contract and created his own, which still exists today.

Initially, Celentano played himself in the movie

In parallel with his musical career, in the late 50s, Celentano decided to try his hand at cinema. In the first films (“Come on, Johnny, come on”, “The jukebox screams for love”, “Sweet Life”) Adriano played a young rock singer, that is, himself.

Celentano managed to get away from this cliché only in 1969. In the film “Serafino” directed by Pietro Germi, he played a simple-minded, but kind and sympathetic village boy.

“The image he created is akin to the characters of a folk comedy - he is simple-minded and crafty, naive and wise at the same time,” the director said about Celentano’s hero.

“My wife Claudia is the ideal for a man”

On the set of another film called “Some Strange Guy” (where Celentano again got the role of a singer), Adriano met actress Claudia Mori. Their whirlwind romance ended with a wedding, which had to be held at 3 a.m. in order to evade the ubiquitous paparazzi. 56 years have passed since then, and Adriano and Claudia are still happy together. They raised three children - daughters Rosita and Rosalinda and son Giacomo.

And although during this time the public and journalists repeatedly attributed affairs to Celentano on the side (especially with his film partners), all these years he tenderly and devotedly loves only one woman - his wife.

“My wife Claudia is the ideal for a man. For me for sure. She is a wonderful friend, a mother of three children, and besides, it’s always interesting to be with her. And there is no woman in the world for whom I would cheat on my wife,” says Celentano.

In 2014, in honor of the golden wedding, Adriano presented his wife with a magnificent gift. By order of the musician, a fountain was built on the territory of their estate in Galbiate near Milan, in the center of which stands the gilded figure of his beloved Claudia. And on the invitations that the spouses sent out to the celebration, it was written: “We still love each other today.”

“It would be better if people enjoy watching the films in which I acted”

More than 60 years have passed since Adriano Celentano began his career. Today he can rightfully be called the most famous singer, composer, film director, producer, TV presenter and, of course, actor in Italy.

True, Celentano has not acted in films for a long time. The last film with his participation, “Jackpot,” was released back in 1992. In 2001, Celentano also played the main role in the detective series Inspector Gluck, after which he did not act again. According to Adriano himself, he is not offered good scripts, and he considers participating in weak, passable films beneath his dignity.

“It’s better that people enjoy watching the films in which I used to play, and not spit at the new ones,” says Adriano.

And, indeed, films with Celentano’s participation, like the artist himself, do not age and are still popular all over the world. For example, among Russian viewers the favorites were and remain “Bluff”, “Bingo-Bongo” and “The Taming of the Shrew”. And the phrases that the main character Elia utters in the last film:

“Well, what would be your positive answer?”

"I'm not listening, but you can talk"

and many others, have long become winged among us.

“Sometimes a melody comes to mind when I’m cooking pasta.”

Despite the fact that Celentano turned 82 on January 6, he has no intention of becoming a homebody. The musician still writes and records songs. “Sometimes a melody comes to mind when I’m cooking pasta. I throw everything away, the food burns, and I sit down to play right in the kitchen. Once I recorded a whole disc like this,” Celentano laughs.

The latest studio album, entitled “Le migliori,” which Adriano recorded with Italian singer Mina Mazzini, was released at the end of 2021 and immediately became a sales leader.

The hero of the cartoon Celentano is a young watchmaker named Adrian

At the beginning of 2021, Celentano presented his new project - the 9-episode cartoon “Adrian”, in which he was not only the scriptwriter, but also the director and producer. The main character of the cartoon is a young watchmaker named Adrian (it’s not for nothing that Celentano was an apprentice to a watchmaker) who looks exactly like the artist himself.

According to the script, Adrian, together with his friend Gilda (by the way, somewhat reminiscent of Claudia Moret), fights evil and helps the unfortunate. The heroes constantly get into some kind of trouble, but invariably come out of them as winners.

The animated series was successfully broadcast on Italian television. And at the end of 2021, Celentano released the disc “Adrian” with songs and compositions from the cartoon. Naturally, Adriano himself performed them.

"Animals are creatures just like us"

Celentano has always advocated for animals. And since 2005, the singer became a convinced vegetarian. According to the artist, giving up animal food means respecting animals and life in general.

“Animals are creatures just like us. They rejoice and cry, just like us. Each of them has a father, mother and children, just like us,” Celentano is convinced.

In addition, Adriano calls for giving up wearing natural fur and sadly recalls how he was photographed in a fur coat in the 70s.

Celentano is an honorary donor of Italy

And finally, one more fact about the famous singer and actor. It turns out that Celentano has been an honorary donor of Italy for many years. He believes that donating blood for those in need is the duty of every citizen of the country, regardless of his status and condition.

@adriano_celentano_life

“When people tell me about the reasons that keep them from donating: “Well, it hurts,” or “I’m afraid of blood,” I just ask: “Are you ready to repeat all this nonsense in the face of a dying person who needs blood from your group?” , says Adriano Celentano.
