How to make a beautiful bouquet of peonies with your own hands

Peonies of our region

The most popular and beautiful peonies, which can often be found in gardens and dachas in our region, are considered to be herbaceous and tree-like varieties. Each of them is good and beautiful in its own way, so it is difficult to give preference to just one variety.

Decor

You can decorate a bouquet of peonies with a wide variety of accessories - fabric, lace, satin ribbons.

Idea! Rhinestones that imitate dew drops or small beads look touching. For example, a pastel bouquet is perfectly complemented by matching artificial pearls.

More specific elements are also acceptable - feathers, butterflies, stars, hearts. They can be either bright accents or support the overall scheme of the bouquet.

tree peony

In China it is called the king of flowers or the emperor's flower. In June, an adult bush is usually decorated with from 30 to 60 unusual inflorescences, the diameter of which reaches 20 cm or more. The color of the buds can be white, pinkish, crimson or lilac with a dark crimson core.

Breeders have also developed yellow and chestnut-red flowers. There are varieties with double, semi-double and simple inflorescences.

The above-ground part of the bush becomes covered with bark every year and remains in the form of a spreading bush all year round. With good care, lighting and suitable soil, bushes of tree peonies reach up to 2 meters in height. Thanks to the unusual shape of the fruit and leaf mass, the plant remains attractive even after flowering.

Rules for composing a bouquet with peonies

To make the composition look beautiful, you need to follow several recommendations.

  • Peonies in combination with other plants are used in ensembles rounded shape.

    Observe the geometry of the bouquet, decorate with greenery with pointed leaves around the perimeter. Only a few branches can be placed between the flowers.

  • buds should not be in close contact

    , you need space between them. Then the flowers will look airy. Don't try to press the florets tightly.

  • When composing a flower miniature, for example bouquet in a mini box

    , use one peony. He will add the right emphasis. You can surround it with your choice of gerberas, roses, anemones and fluffy greenery.

  • Create an ensemble in a single color scheme

    . It can be gentle or richly bright. The main thing is that the shades harmonize and not contrast.

We recommend ordering your favorite designer ensemble at least once a season. The summer months fly by quickly. And when you hold their gifts in your hands, you plunge headlong into the brightness of these warm sunny days.

Herbaceous peony bushes

They reach a height of 80 to 120 cm, are early bloomers - the red buds turn into caps resembling a large carnation in mid-May, and also late bloomers.

The latter delight with fragrant flowers around June. The color palette of peonies ranges from white and pinkish to dark red.

A beautiful bouquet of peonies with your own hands and what peonies are combined with in the bouquet.

Peony has a very large, colorful flower. Other flowers only emphasize the composition, its beauty and sophistication.

The following flowers go well with peony:

  • Decorative bow. The heads of this plant look simply wonderful among the colorful peony caps.
  • Red buds, for example, carnations and heuchera, harmonize perfectly with white or coral peony.
  • Delicate pink buds can highlight dark, decorative leaves of greenery or sprigs of barberry.
  • White peonies look great with irises. They contrast in tone.
  • The next flower on the list that goes well with peony is sage. Peony can also make a composition with poppy and bells.
  • Peonies look very beautiful against the background of tulips, zinnias and daffodils.
  • In autumn you get wonderful bouquets made of peonies, phlox, asters, and chrysanthemums.

Currently, a composition composed of bright colors is considered fashionable. For example, a bouquet made of roses and peonies always looks rich and advantageous. Peony and hydrangea look no less attractive. This combination has always been relevant in floristry.

Secrets of growing bushes

Peonies are perennials that form neat bushes that will decorate any country or garden plot with their presence.

In empty areas, it is advisable to plant bushes in groups or along garden paths. Although wherever the bush is planted, it immediately attracts the attention of others and is one of the main decorations of the site.

Peonies go well with all types of irises, blue and white bells, delphinium, asters and poppies. The main condition is that the flowering neighbors should be slightly lower than the peony and not block it from the sun's rays.

It is also stupid to hide peonies in the depths of large flower beds - this way they will never demonstrate their beauty and nobility. It should be borne in mind that some mature peony bushes need support.

Combination of peonies with other flowers

With roses

These are two of the most popular flowers used for weddings today. The combination with roses looks very cute, airy and beautiful.

Both peony-shaped (pictured on the left) and bush varieties of roses (right) will look great with peonies, as well as any other species.

Beautiful compositions are obtained if they are made from two pastel colors, for example, pink and white, and add brighter flowers to them - red or orange.

If you want a very delicate bouquet, then lilac, peach, beige and lemon inflorescences harmonize well with each other. It is also a great idea to choose a completely snow-white bouquet or, conversely, a multi-colored one. Compositions in pink tones look gorgeous.

Remember that the composition should not contain more than three shades, otherwise it will become tacky.

With freesia

Freesia is a neat, lace-like plant with small petals. It comes in various colors: white, yellow, pink, blue, blue and others, which will fit perfectly into your wedding composition.

Advice! An incredibly beautiful combination is obtained from lilac or pink peony flowers and blue freesia.

With orchids

The color palette of this plant is varied:

  • blue;
  • red;
  • purple;
  • soft pink;
  • white;
  • yellow.

Bouquets of peonies and orchids look incredibly expensive, chic and solemn. And if you make it in a cascade shape, then the newlywed will look like a real fairy-tale princess with such an accessory.

It is worth considering that orchids, being in the same vase with other flowers, begin to release toxic substances and thereby poison neighboring plants. Therefore, if you want to preserve the composition for a longer time, you will have to separate them and put them in different containers.

With ranunculus

Ranunculi are somewhat reminiscent of peonies, so they look very harmonious and interesting together. Their color range, like the previous options, is simply huge, these are:

  • and white;
  • and purple;
  • and yellow;
  • and pink;
  • and creamy;
  • and purple flowers.

The only problem with combining these two beautiful plants is that their seasonality is different. Peonies bloom from May to July, but ranunculus are winter flowers and are in season from February to April. So you will need to try hard to find them at the same time for your wedding.

With hydrangea

Consists of many small flowers that resemble fluffy balls. This form is considered one of the ideal ones for combination with peonies.

The colors of the bouquets may be different, since both plants have a variety of shades. Compositions in blue, light blue, pink, purple and lilac tones are festive and interesting.

With anemones

These types of bouquets look incredibly delicate, but at the same time textured. Anemones will perfectly complement peonies and fit into any wedding style. There are a lot of colors, from pastel to bright saturated. So every girl can easily choose the right color.

With the field

With wildflowers, for example, daisies or cornflowers, peonies also look great in a bouquet.

This combination is suitable for romantic people, and it would be especially appropriate to choose such a composition for a wedding in a rustic or boho style.

Another advantage of this option is that both plants bloom at approximately the same time of year. So it won’t be difficult for florists to create such a masterpiece for your celebration.

Monobouquet

A bunch of flowers of the same type, in our case peonies, is called a monobouquet. Since they are absolutely self-sufficient and therefore it is quite possible to choose a wedding composition only from them alone.

Any color of your bouquet is possible, it will still turn out delicate, sophisticated, festive and spectacular. Feel free to complement it with lush greens, sprigs of eucalyptus or gypsophila.

How to choose a landing site

Peony bushes should be planted only in sunny places. In the shade, not only will they not bloom, but even the green mass of foliage will develop poorly. Also, the landing site should be quiet and protected from harsh winds and drafts.

Peonies are unpretentious to the composition of the soil, but they prefer fertile loams. Plant tubers only do poorly in waterlogged and overly damp soil.

Examples of bouquets for the bride

  1. A combination of peonies of different colors in one bouquet will be successful and original. Florists suggest taking different shades of pink: from more delicate to more saturated or even burgundy. Finally, add green grass varieties. For example, mint will do. It is quite bright and juicy.
  2. White is the most traditional bridal color. And if you add roses to the peonies, you will get a more original option, however, the bride will be able to stay with such a bouquet in a classic style.
  3. The rich purple color of the buds can be tied with a delicate purple ribbon, casually thrown over it. This image is suitable for a nifma bride who decided to hold a wedding ceremony in the fresh air.

How to prepare a landing site

Approximately 20-30 days before replanting the bushes, the soil and the pit itself should be prepared. At a distance of 1 m from each other, you need to dig holes with a diameter of at least 70 cm. The depth will depend on the volume and size of the tubers. For small trees, it will be enough to prepare a hole of 70-80 cm; for adult bushes, a deeper hole will be needed.

2-3 days before planting, fertilizer must be added to the soil - peat, compost or rotted manure and mixed with the top layer of soil.

Planting bushes must be placed in the ground so that the living buds located on the tubers go down approximately 3-4 cm from the soil surface.

To avoid accidentally breaking young buds, compact the soil around the bush carefully. Newly planted bushes should be watered with settled water.

How to make a beautiful, huge, chic bouquet of peonies: ideas, photos, assembly tips.

Previously, when composing bouquet arrangements, one technique was used: the stems were folded towards each other, forming a lush dome in the shape of a ball. Such a bouquet was placed in paper or film. Currently, fabric of various shades, for example, organza or matting, is also used to make flower arrangements.

Today, the trend of making flower arrangements in boxes is also considered very popular. Peonies are ideal for such bouquets. To make it, you can take a cylindrical box that resembles a hat, or that resembles a heart. If you want to make the composition yourself, apply a base and use designer paper for decoration.

Do not be afraid that such a bouquet will not last long. Place a special porous material at the bottom of the box, soaking it with water. If such a bouquet is properly cared for, it can live no less than the composition that is placed in an ordinary vase.

The next composition you make will please any birthday person.

For her, stock up on:

  • Pink hydrangeas – 4 pcs.
  • Viburnum branches – 3 pcs.
  • Soft pink peonies – 5 pcs.
  • Pink ranunculi – 10 pcs.

Also for work you will need a round vase, willow branches, and a knife.

Bouquet design process:

  1. Pour water into the vase (1/2 part). Twist willow branches into arbitrary shapes.
  2. Place the branches in a vase and distribute them beautifully among the dishes.
  3. Add water (3/4 parts).
  4. Assemble a bouquet: start with large flowers, end with small ones.
  5. Trim hydrangeas so that the top of the flower covers the rim of the vase.
  6. Trim the viburnum too. Place it between the hydrangeas.
  7. Next, trim the peony stems. Place randomly in a vase.
  8. Trim the remaining flowers and arrange them around the perimeter of the vase.

The composition is ready.

To keep your bouquet looking fresh for a very long time, follow these recommendations:

  • Place the vase in the sink.
  • Move apart the flower beds and pour in water.
  • Wait until the old water flows out and the vase is filled with new water.

Growing from seeds

Suitable only for gardeners who are fans of their craft. If a gardener has the skill and patience to grow a peony bush from seeds, then the first full-fledged buds should wait about 6-7 years.

Growing method: first, the seeds are soaked in water, then placed in a small container with soil. Rapid germination is facilitated by temperature changes, so for a month it is recommended to place the container with seeds on a radiator during the day and put it in a cool place at night (temperature up to 15 degrees Celsius).

We must not forget about watering. When the first roots appear, the container should be placed in the refrigerator or other cold place for 2 months.

With the arrival of spring, the pot is moved to a warm place, after which it is necessary to wait for the first leaves to appear. When the seedlings become stronger, the small bushes are transplanted into open ground.

What do you need to know?

Peonies are suitable for spring and summer weddings, because you can find them on store shelves only in late spring and early summer - which is considered the season. At this time there are a lot of them, they are varied, and the price is very low.

It is worth remembering that these plants must be handled with extreme care and precision. They are afraid of both cold and heat - in such conditions they quickly bloom, and therefore can become disheveled and wither. They also don’t live long without water, so don’t forget to ask to add a sponge with water to the composition.

The stem of the flower should be dense and thick, and the leaves should be fresh, the cut edge of the peony should be green; if it is darkened, this indicates that the plant has been standing in water for a long time.

Palette of colors:

  • soft pink;
  • beige;
  • lemon;
  • dark red;
  • yellow;
  • white;
  • wine red;
  • deep pink;
  • bright raspberry;
  • soft peach;
  • lilac;
  • orange;
  • burgundy;
  • cream;
  • fuchsia colors;
  • blue;
  • purple;
  • coral

What do the shades symbolize:

  • white represents the innocence, purity and sincere feelings of the couple;
  • pink ones are considered a symbol of material wealth and respect in the family;
  • rich tones of red and burgundy speak of the passion, devotion and sensuality of the newlyweds;
  • yellow has a double meaning: on the one hand, it means misfortune and quarrel, and on the other, incredible fun, carefree days and vibrant energy.

The symbolism of the flowers themselves:

  • Greece is considered the birthplace of peonies, where people treat them as a talisman against the evil eye and all evil;
  • according to the Chinese interpretation, it is a plant of the sun, which brings financial success and prosperity;
  • The Japanese believe that bouquets with peonies promise fertility and untold wealth;
  • Mediterranean countries believe that such flowers bring joy, a good future and hope for happiness;
  • Among Europeans, including in Russia, it is believed that a bridal bouquet made with peonies will bring the newlyweds a happy married life, strong relationships and family well-being.

Adviсe

  1. Tall newlyweds will look better with cascading bouquets, and short ones with classic round ones.
  2. For thin brides, a not very voluminous wedding composition is just right, but for plump ones, on the contrary, a larger and more curvaceous one is suitable.

Features of care

In order for peonies to delight with abundant and persistent flowering, they must be properly cared for. What basic rules for caring for flowers do gardeners advise you to pay attention to:

  • Watering the bushes should be plentiful, especially during the development of buds. One bush should require 30 to 40 liters of water;
  • Regular loosening of the soil around the bush is important. This way the peony tubers will be provided with the oxygen they need;
  • The soil around the bush should not be allowed to become clogged with various weeds. They have a detrimental effect on the bushes, take away moisture and slow down the appearance of buds.

Another important point: to achieve large inflorescences, one, maximum two buds should be left on the stem. This rule applies to herbaceous plant varieties. Tree-like buds should not be touched.

The most luxurious varieties of peonies

Specialized stores sell varieties of peonies of different shapes, sizes and colors. The snow-white varieties are especially beautiful and tender: “Mirage” with yellow stamens, “Gardenia” and “Duchess de Nemours” with lush flowers, velvet “Anchantress”.

Among the pink varieties, Gladys Taylor, Pink Panther, and Sarah Bernhardt are very common. By combining flowers of different shades of the same tone, you can make a very beautiful bouquet of peonies with an ombre effect.

If you prefer bright shades, pay attention to “Ruth Glue”, “Red Charm”, “Iline Bell” - these are varieties with red flowers.

Flower growers have long been captivated by unexpected shades. For example, in many catalogs you can find pale blue peonies.

And varieties such as “Lemon Dream” and “Lollipop” have a speckled color. The petals of flowers belonging to the “Top Brass” variety can be painted in 2-3 different shades.

Feeding flowers

Peonies respond to fertilizing with abundant flowering. In spring, the bushes need to be fed with a solution of potassium permanganate (2-3 g per 10 liters of water). A little later, ammonium nitrate is recommended (15 g per 10 liters of water). During budding and flowering, you can use ready-made preparations “Bud”, “Flower”, “Nitrophoska”, etc.

The last feeding of the bush should be after flowering. You can use suitable nitrogen, phosphorus and potassium fertilizers or Agricola-autumn liquid fertilizer. They help the tubers accumulate the necessary nutrients for normal wintering, as well as for laying new inflorescences.

In addition, plants love it when wood ash is regularly added to the soil.

Memory of children's holidays

Many people keep in their souls wonderful memories of the most important events of childhood. Everyone whose childhood fell during the Soviet and perestroika years remembers that all touching school holidays were invariably accompanied by lush, beautiful bouquets of flowers. The peonies were a real favorite.

These same flowers were received for birthdays and professional holidays by all those who had a reason to receive congratulations during the peony flowering season. And it must be said that it is quite long: from May to September.

It is worth noting that in the past this flower was the most accessible and widespread. The unpretentious bushes did well in dachas and personal plots; they were often grown even in flower beds at the entrances of high-rise buildings. For special occasions and the most precious people, workers preferred to choose more impressive flowers: roses, callas, gladioli.

Preparing bushes for winter

Peony bushes do not require special preparation, other than trimming the stems. Adult plants tolerate frost and cold weather normally. Only young, recently planted bushes need to be covered with leaves. It is better not to use sawdust.

Proper care of peonies allows them to bloom profusely and grow into huge, luxurious bushes.
