Already at the age of nine, she performed as part of the group Black Flowers on dance floors in local clubs and at festivals. At the age of 13, Patricia signed a contract with the Rumpelkammer cabaret club in the German city of Saarbrücken and performed there every Saturday for seven years under the pseudonym “Pady Pax.”

Biography
French singer Patricia Kaas is one of the most popular Western pop singers in Russia.
The genre of music performed by the singer is a mixture of jazz and pop music. The formula for her success is constant tours around the world. Singer Patricia Kaas
Patricia Kaas was born on December 5, 1966 in France into a mining family, which, in addition to her, had six more children. The girl was the last child after the birth of five older brothers and a sister. The large family of miner Joseph and housewife Irmgard lived in the province not far from the German-French border. This was a German family with French citizenship. Before school, the children spoke German, which was not uncommon in Lorraine.
As a child, Patricia loved music and singing, her mother encouraged it. The schoolgirl's repertoire consisted of songs by Dalida and Mireille Mathieu. She also sang foreign hits of Liza Minnelli. The youngest Kaas began her career early: from the age of 9 she performed on dance floors and festivals as part of the group Black Flowers, and at the age of 13 she signed a contract with the Rumpelkammer cabaret club in Saarbrücken.

Early success of Patricia Kaas
One day, during a performance at a club, the architect Bernard Schwartz drew attention to her; after meeting her, he invited the young singer to Paris and introduced her to songwriter Francois Bernheim from Phonogram Records.
He was given a demo recording of her songs, which he really liked. Berheim convinced his friend Gerard Depardieu to sponsor the recording of Kaas's single entitled "Jalouse". In 1985, the single was published by EMI, the lyrics were written by Berheim and Depardieu's wife, Elizabeth. The song turned out to be a failure. In 1987, Patricia Kaas signed a contract with the recording company PolyGram Records. In the same year, the now famous single Mademoiselle chante le blues (“Mademoiselle Sings the Blues”) was released; the author of the song’s lyrics was the French poet and composer Didier Barbelivien. The song took 14th place in the French charts and sold about four hundred thousand copies. On her birthday, December 5, 1987, Patricia Kaas performed on the stage of the Paris Olympia, the most prestigious hall in France.

The Birth of "Mademoiselle"
And here, after all, a small miracle happens - Patricia’s own “fairy godmother” appears in her life, whose role went to Bernard Schwartz. The fairy, however, turned out to be so-so: an engineer, a native of Alsace, who, having moved to Paris, made acquaintance with several famous people and decided to become an impresario. He, like many in France, dreamed of finding “the second Edith Piaf,” but he did not find it.
One evening, Schwartz happened to be in Saarbrücken and went to the Rumpelkammer club. Having heard the young singer, in a wave of delight and wanting to show off, he invites her to Paris, not really counting on this visit. And Patricia saw this as a chance and, without much hesitation, went to the capital. It was 1984 when she first set foot on the streets of Paris to fall in love with this city and stay in it forever.
Bernard Schwartz was not too happy to see the young talent on the threshold of his office. A thin, awkward girl, with a nose broken in an accident and a monstrous accent, but with absolute confidence in her talent, did not particularly look like a new star. And yet he decided to help her.
Finding people willing to invest money in an unknown singer was not easy. But Schwartz stubbornly showed her notes to everyone he could reach. Finally, luck smiled on him - the wife of the famous actor Gerard Depardieu, Elizabeth, became interested in Patricia. The song “Jalouse” (“Jealous”) was written based on her poems, and Depardieu himself agreed to sponsor the recording at the EMI/Pathe Marconi studio. The song was released and... nothing. Neither the public nor the critics practically noticed her.
The singer had to wait another two long years for “her” song. And finally, in 1987, Patricia Kaas recorded Didier Barbelivien’s song “Mademoiselle chante le blues”, which literally “exploded” the world charts. From an unknown “Alsatian sparrow”, Kaas instantly becomes the hope of the French stage. For this song she receives the Victoires de la musique award in the Discovery of the Year category.
The following year, 1988, Patricia released the single “Mon mec à moi” (“My boyfriend for me”), recognized as one of the most popular French songs of the 20th century. And in May 1989, her mother passed away. She was seriously ill for a long time, but until the last she tried not to distract her youngest daughter from her career, which was beginning to take shape.
Patricia took the loss of her mother very hard. In one of her interviews, she said that when her mother died, she stopped believing in God. The teddy bear that the singer never parts with is an inheritance from her mother. Just like the peculiar vow “To work in memory of my mother, so that she would be proud of me,” given by the singer after the loss of her closest person.

The fourth album was “Dans ma chair” (“Inside me”) in 1997, recorded in New York with the famous American producer Phil Ramone. The album includes 50 songs by different authors. The singer dedicated it to her parents. The circulation of this album was 750,000 copies. After its release, Kaas went on another tour of 23 countries, during which she gave 120 concerts.
In 1999, Patricia released her next album, “Le mot de passe,” created under the guidance of producer Pascal Obispo. In November of the same year, the singer went on a world tour again.
Biography of Patricia Kaas
Miner's youngest daughter
The family of miner Joseph and his wife Irmgard had seven children. The youngest (and second of the daughters) was named Patricia. She was born exactly 48 years ago. Then the family lived in the province, almost on the border with Germany. So the parents of the future star are Germans with French citizenship. Almost until school, the girl spoke German, which was not uncommon for Lorraine.
Since childhood, Patricia loved to sing, and her mother encouraged her daughter in every possible way. The schoolgirl's repertoire included songs by the unique Dalida and the magnificent Mireille Mathieu. Of the foreign hits, the little girl preferred Liza Minnelli's compositions.
"Under the Wing" by Depardieu
At the age of 13, the youngest Kaas signed a contract with one of the clubs, and at 16 she began working for a modeling agency in the city of Metz. At first, her attempts to conquer the musical heights were not successful: the producers had enough of one Mireille Mathieu, they did not want to promote the second.
When Patricia turned 19, she managed to reach Olympus - Gerard Depardieu himself took her under his protection. He saw a girl perform in that very club (it was called “Rumpelkammer”) and introduced her to the famous poet Francois Bernheim.
The first single (written by this songwriter and Elizabeth, Depardieu's wife) was called “Jalouse” (“Jealous”). Unfortunately, it did not arouse interest among listeners.
Hit #1
But the already legendary piece “Mademoiselle chante le blues”, written by Didier Barbelivien, turned out to be a real hit. It was released at the end of 1987 and immediately became No. 14 in the domestic hit parade. The album of the same name, released in January 1988, turned out to be more successful - it had 2nd position. It went gold and later platinum not only in the singer’s homeland, but also in Switzerland and Belgium. Almost 3 million discs were scattered around the world.
Success was not easy for the debutante: it was during this period that her mother suffered a serious illness, and in 1989 Irmgard passed away.
New chanson star
A year later, the French performer was awaiting a long (1 year 4 months) tour, including 12 countries. Kaas became a welcome guest in the Parisian halls, which applauded the legendary pop stars - Zenit and Olympia.
At the same time, the singer began to collaborate with a new one and released “Scène de vie”, which she presented in 13 countries, including the USSR and Japan.
The year 1991 brought Patricia the prestigious World Music Awards.
Together with Madonna, Whitney Houston, Tina Turner and Cher, the Frenchwoman claimed the title of “Best International Singer” and became a “bronze” medalist.
“Je te dis vous” is considered one of the star’s most successful albums (in the German-speaking world).
Tours, albums, movies...
The performer's fame was gaining momentum, her tour covered an increasing number of countries. She was the first (of Western singers) to visit Vietnam (after the bloody war). Patricia then traveled almost all of Asia, touring in Thailand, Korea, and Cambodia.
New albums, millions of fans, concerts and tours, third place in the national competition “Marianna” (in which a new symbol of the country is chosen), a joint performance with Placido Domingo and another famous tenor, Alejandro Fernandez. There was no time left for respite.
In 2001, she released a collection of her hits “The Best of the Best” and starred in the film “And Now, Ladies and Gentlemen” by the master of French cinema, Claude Lelouch.
Not everything was smooth - for example, the album “Sexe Fort” was not popular, and after the end of the tour that presented the disc, the singer took a time out for almost two years.
Favorite of the Russian public
In 2008, Kaas sang with “Uma2rman”, and at the end of the same year, the French woman’s album “Kabaret” was released in our country (the letter “K” in the word means “Kaas”, because cabaret in French begins with “C”) "). The tour in support of the disc was successful and included solo concerts in a dozen and a half countries.
At the end of February 2010, the divine Patricia successfully performed in the Kremlin (together with Russian stars). And in 2012, the new album (and program of the same name) “Kaas Sings Piaf” enjoyed great success in Europe, the USA, Canada and Japan.

This song remained at the top of the Russian charts for a long time. In November, work on the album “Kabaret” was completed. The name is misspelled for a reason (in French it is written “Сabaret”), the letter “K” is an allusion to the surname Kaas. In support of the album, Patricia gave concerts in Moscow and Khabarovsk, as well as in 11 different countries. During the same period, the singer participated in an advertising campaign for Russia's largest chain of perfume and cosmetics stores, L'Etoile, becoming its “face.”

singer Patricia Kaas
celebrated her 50th birthday . Despite a successful career, the love of millions of fans and a huge number of people around, the artist admits that she feels lonely. Every appearance on stage for her is another date in her romance with the audience, which has replaced romances in her personal life. Recently, the singer wrote a book about herself, “The Shadow of My Voice,” in which she shared secrets about her innermost being.

Patricia Kaas was the seventh child in the family of a miner and a housekeeper. In their house, it was not customary to say kind words to each other and show tenderness, therefore, even in adulthood, it was always difficult for the singer to show her feelings. Perhaps this was one of the reasons for her loneliness. “It’s difficult for me to say the phrase “I love you,” I rarely say it. Men reproach me for this. And because I don’t give myself completely, I don’t forget. Yes, I give without giving. And I’m always ready to take myself back. The life of an artist, as Alain Delon told me more than once, leads to loneliness. That’s why I don’t believe in a love story, it’s enough for me to believe in a kiss,” she admits.

However, Patricia Kaas’s personal life was not as successful as her creative one. She was credited with having affairs with Alain Delon, Gerard Depardieu, Jeremy Irons and other famous artists. In response to this, the singer stated that she preferred not to take such relationships beyond friendship, so that they would last longer. And in the case of Alain Delon, she really succeeded.

The longest romance, which Patricia Kaas now recalls with bitterness, was a civil marriage with the Belgian musician Philippe Bergman. The artist wrote about their relationship: “I don’t want to admit to myself that he’s with me because of what I have and who I am. This thought is connected with the even more terrible thought that I am being deceived. Nothing happens in his career and he starts concentrating on mine. He tries to isolate me from my loved ones, but I refuse to see the truth. He doesn’t have his own money, he’s angry.” After breaking up with Kaas, Bergman accused the singer of being obsessed with her career and tried to sue her for her property.

After this story, the singer lost faith in men and in love itself. In her book, The Shadow of My Voice, she wrote: “Men have disappointed me. And God, who took my parents, too. I hate love. And I despise myself for being a weak, lovesick idiot. I despise men. I think they are arrogant, materialistic and cowardly idiots. Predictable and infantile."

She had affairs, but they ended either because of the painful jealousy of her chosen one, or because of the role of mistress offered to her. This is what happened to a young millionaire: “Days and weeks pass. I'm still the mistress of a married man. Trophy. I'm famous, he's rich. Onassis and his Callas, 2010 version. The only difference is that I don’t want to sacrifice my career for a man, to be the next acquisition in his collection. The end of my love story. He stays with his wife. This fairy tale was too beautiful to be true."

Today, the singer’s biggest regret is that she cannot have children. “My mother gave birth to as many children as I recorded albums,” says Patricia Kaas. She never got married: “I choose for myself whether to be with a man or not. And this always complicates my relationships with the opposite sex - men are simply afraid of me.”

Personal life of Patricia Kaas
Patricia Cass's personal life was not as successful as her career. In her youth, she confessed her love to Bernard Schwartz, but he did not reciprocate her feelings, refusing her proposal to marry. She experienced a severe shock and even got into a motorcycle accident due to her worries. After which she focused on her career.
The personal life of Patricia Kaas is often in full swing - she had an affair with Alain Delon himself.
At the age of 21, after the death of her mother, Patricia began dating her manager Cyril Prieur. Their relationship lasted three years. According to the singer, she had no luck with men; she had many affairs, but they never ended in marriage. For some time she dated the famous actor Alain Delon. Currently, the singer has been living with a man named Philip for more than 4 years, with whom they have complete mutual understanding, they plan to get married and have a child.
Star stories
Patricia Kaas once admitted that she no longer believes in great love. By the age of 45, the legendary singer had never known the happiness of being a mother and beloved wife. “My mother gave birth to as many children as I recorded albums,” she says. The symbol of French charm admits: “ I sang a lot, loved a lot, cried a lot.”
Kaas has always been very careful about sharing information about her personal life with the world, preferring to remain in the shadow of her voice. This continued until the appearance of the first and only biography of the singer, written by herself. Shadow of My Voice tells the life story of a French woman with a strong character and a sad look.
She became one of the first European stars to give a concert in the perestroika USSR and to this day remains a symbol of impeccable taste and grace for millions of Russians. She is admired, she is worshiped, she is talked about. She is called the Madonna of the East and the French Marlene Dietrich. At different times she had affairs with the most famous compatriots - from Alain Delon to Gerard Depardieu.
Fatal bad luck in your personal life and loneliness are the notorious price of fame, the first rays of which in Kaas’s case coincided with the fading of the life of the closest person - her mother. Patricia first performed the song Mademoiselle chante le blues, which became the singer’s signature song, already knowing that her mother was terminally ill. She put all her hope and love into her performance, and the audience heard it: the song instantly became a hit. The brilliance of show business was replaced by the grayness of hospital walls, but the goal was achieved: mom managed to see how her shy girl Paddy became a star.

This is how the star talks about her mother: “Mom has no time to rest. She's always there. Mom is very tender when needed, but also very harsh when we, children, force her to do so.
She allows us not to go to school when she feels that we are too tired or don't want to go at all. But mom can get very angry when our behavior does not suit her. She has principles: you can’t lie, you need to be fair and respectful.
If it's not, she screams. We fear her wrath because of the pitch of the sound she makes and its harshness. If mom gets angry, her voice rises up and becomes so shrill that we are forced to cover our ears.
We try not to make her angry, partly because we are so aware of how difficult it is for her. She gets us on our feet with only the very modest earnings of my miner father.”
Patricia is the seventh child in a French-German family, the daughter of a miner and a housewife from a small border town. They wrote all sorts of things about her childhood and teenage years, they talked about her difficult childhood, but in her biography the singer talks warmly about her large family. To hide from grief after the death of her mother, Patricia plunges headlong into creativity, and this is what she always did - after failure or unhappy love - she devotes herself completely to the stage.
“My family, my clan. I look at them, I'm proud of my brothers and sister. Robert, man to man, speaks to his father, whom he resembles. Egon jokes with Karina. Raymond and Bruno help mom, and Dani amuses herself by lifting my ash-blond braids. Six of them have the same blue eyes, some of them are slightly oblong. I'm the last child. I am eight years old. My sister is twelve and everyone else is much older than me.
I was born after a whole series of brothers. In fact, mom wanted a girl. But she gave birth to five boys. And since she really regretted that she did not have a daughter, she increased the number of children to six, giving birth to Karina. She should have stopped there, but I was suddenly born, conceived by accident. Child of spring, reborn desire, born on December 5th. Seven children, a whole tribe.”
Excerpt from Patricia Kaas’ book “The Shadow of My Voice”: “Dad’s favorite dish is snails with green garlic sauce. Then boiled vegetables, releasing cheerful bubbles, and roast, the king of the table. This main Christmas dish is loved by everyone, but the rabbit or turkey has its opponents among us children. With so many kids, it's hard to come to an agreement on the menu. There are seven of us, like gnomes, samurai, wonders of the world, cat lives, days of the week and crystal balls!…
First five boys and then two girls. Today we are all here, even the elders who left home - Robert, Raymond and Bruno - came with their wives. I like it when there are a lot of people in the house, when we all get together, when the cramped living room is bursting with movements, laughter, thunderous voices, fueled by alcohol. I like to guess who has arrived when the bell rings. I like this crowd of people for one evening, sparkling eyes, smiling mom, pink dad.”
“The life of an artist... I got it, I have it, and I don’t regret it. But when I think about her, I don't remember anything. “It’s like I dreamed everything,” admits the star. — I lived as if above myself. View from above. Reality is not for me. Only the stage is real."
No matter what happens in her life, the honeymoon with the public will continue as long as her voice is heard...
