I dreamed of a son

Sorokina, about whom it was written that her only love affair with work, admitted that she really wanted to take a boy of three or five years old.

“I thought it would be easier for me with a small man. I have a bad temper. Perhaps there would have been better contact with the boy. Why did you want such an adult? Because I couldn’t cope with a baby,” Sorokina frankly told reporters.

She visited orphanages. When the woman asked herself whether she felt the child was hers, she answered that she did not.

Criticism[edit | edit code]

In reality, all journalists who worked for NTV were invited to stay at NTV. Nobody kicked them out; they waited a long time to be kicked out. They left on their own, voluntarily. Many who shouted loudest went to work for those same hated state channels, like Svetlana Sorokina.

Sorokina herself explains such creative searches by the fact that after the defeat of the “old” NTV[53], “I had to wander through the channels in search of a better life”[54].

Konstantin Ernst spoke about Sorokina and her talk show “Basic Instinct”: “ We had disputes about the development of the program. I tried to orient the program towards sociality, and Svetlana - such showdowns inside the Garden Ring

Daughter

Unexpectedly, little Antonina met on her way. And a completely different life began. At night, Svetlana Innokentievna wondered how her relationship with her adopted daughter would develop, whether they would find a common language when the girl grew up.

However, Sorokina’s kind heart helped her overcome all the problems. Tonya grew up and pleased her mother, who understood what it was like to have a daughter.

Sorokina Svetlana Innokentievna

Russian journalist. TV and radio presenter. Director. Host of the program “In the Circle of Light” on the radio station “Echo of Moscow” (since 2005). Member of the Russian Television Academy. Lecturer at the Higher School of Economics. Member of the Human Rights Council under the President of the Russian Federation (2009-2011). At various times she hosted the television programs “Vesti”, “Hero of the Day” and “Voice of the People”, “Basic Instinct”.

Svetlana Sorokina was born on January 15, 1957 in the city of Pushkin, Leningrad region. Her parents were intelligent workers. Dad worked as a military builder, and mom taught history at school. The parents dreamed that their daughter would grow up to be a deeply erudite person. And my daughter tried to live up to these dreams. She studied well and graduated from school with a gold medal. I decided to get a higher education without leaving my beloved city. She entered the Forestry Academy, choosing landscape architecture.

The idea of television journalism came to Svetlana when she was working as a tour guide. While showing tourists local attractions, of which there were a great many in Pushkin, Sorokina noticed how attentively people listened to her. She was able to talk about everything in an interesting and informative way. Probably, it was then that the journalist “awakened” in her.

Unexpectedly for everyone, Svetlana becomes a student in a special broadcasting studio formed at St. Petersburg Television. A year later, Sorokina made her debut on television. She was hired as a freelancer for the Telecourier analytical program. This program turned out to be a real school of journalistic excellence. Here Sorokina very quickly became a real professional and acquired her own style. Svetlana had to cover crime news, so she was constantly at the forefront of events, learning to react quickly and adequately.

In 1990, Svetlana Innokentievna was invited to Moscow. She was entrusted with hosting the most important program, which was considered the symbol of VGTRK: “Vesti”. And the journalist conducted it masterfully. Few people after her managed to hold the attention of the audience so brilliantly. It is noteworthy that she not only led, but was also the direct creator of the project, meticulously developing its releases from “A” to “Z”.

Sorokina worked as a presenter and political commentator until 1997. This was the peak of the journalist's popularity. At this time, she received the Order “For Personal Courage” after covering the events of 1993. And Sorokina also received a statuette for the most prestigious television award, TEFI. During the same period, Svetlana Sorokina made her debut as a documentary director. Her projects that appeared on screens attracted great interest.

For the first time in many years, the veils of secrecy began to slip away from government officials. People saw its representatives not as monumental statues, but as ordinary creatures of flesh and blood. Sorokina’s documentary “Yeltsin’s Heart” talked about the operation that Boris Yeltsin underwent. The film “Purely Russian Murder” revealed the motives for the murder of Galina Starovoitova, and the film “The First First Lady” told about the life of Raisa Maksimovna Gorbacheva.

After the release of Sorokina’s projects, her already impressive number of awards doubled. But the sharp criticism of the authorities, which the famous journalist allowed herself, did not go unnoticed. Her talk show Basic Instinct was soon canceled.

In 2005, Sorokina left television for the Ekho Moskvy radio, where she hosts the program “In the Circle of Light.” Soon, a television version of this program appeared on the Domashny channel. But only four issues were released.

Svetlana Innokentievna was appointed a member of the Human Rights Council under the President of Russia in 2009. However, already in 2011 she left her position. In this way, the journalist protested against the massive falsification of the results of the State Duma elections. After such an act, the journalist’s television biography also suffered. Sorokina began to appear on air only on the Echo and Dozhd channels.

However, Svetlana continues to work and periodically appears on air. From April 27 to December 29, 2015, she hosted the author’s talk show “Sorokina” on the Dozhd TV channel. In addition, she began to appear on Internet television. In 2015, Internet users saw an hour and a half dialogue between Svetlana and Nikolai Svanidze on the topic “Russia: 15 years later” as part of the “April Dialogues” of the Open Library project.

Sorokina, as an associate professor, gives lectures at the National Research University Higher School of Economics at the Faculty of Media Communications. Teaches the discipline “Journalism in a multimedia environment.”

“I won’t give my daughter to anyone”

Only once could family happiness be destroyed: Antonina’s real mother showed up, recognizing her daughter from a photograph.

Muscovite Tatyana Lipatova wanted to return the girl and came to Ostankino. The woman cried and said that she had made a mistake. Having found out Sorokina’s address, I went to her home.

True, the meeting with Tonya did not take place. The TV presenter’s driver threatened Tatyana that he would contact law enforcement agencies. And Svetlana herself stated that she would not give the girl to anyone.

Svetlana Sorokina's childhood and early career

The future famous journalist was born in the small town of Pushkin in the Leningrad region. Her father Innokenty Sarykov was a military builder by profession. And Valentina’s mother worked as a history teacher. From early childhood, the future celebrity gave priority to her education. She graduated from secondary school with a gold medal, and then applied to the Forestry Academy. Svetlana also received her higher education in landscape architecture (work profile: urban greening) without any problems. Her teachers advised her to go to graduate school, and after some deliberation, she decided to continue her studies.

While studying at the Forestry Academy, Sorokina worked as a tour guide, telling tourists about the sights of her hometown Pushkin.

Already having a higher education diploma in hand, Svetlana, unexpectedly for everyone, again decided to devote time to her education. In 1985, she entered a special broadcasting studio that worked at Leningrad Television.

A year later, she began working in journalism for the first time: as a freelancer, she prepared materials for the Saturday editions of the Telecourier analytical program. However, the girl only worked here for about a year. In 1987, at the personal invitation of Alexander Nevzorov, she went to work in the creative department of another television program of Leningrad Television - “600 Seconds”. It was here, according to Sorokina, that she first felt like a professional journalist.

The program was distinguished by its original manner of presenting the material, and also covered mainly the events of the criminal chronicle. However, here Sorokina got a chance to develop professionally. And this is difficult to overestimate. In 1988, Svetlana Sorokina began working on the program as the main presenter. Subsequently, the profession of a TV presenter will become her main one. It is in this capacity that viewers from all regions of Russia will remember her.

Svetlana Sorokina's further career on television

In 1997, already as an established and well-known television journalist, Svetlana Sorokina moved to the NTV channel. Here she begins to work on a number of new projects. In addition, from 1997 to 2006, Svetlana began to often work as a director. Her documentaries “Heart of Yeltsin”, “Swan” (about General Lebed), “The First First Lady” and many others are aired on various channels and bring her great success and critical acclaim. The journalist's collection of awards is constantly updated with new exhibits.

Personal life

Svetlana Sorokina represents the category of people who “burn” at work. Trying to do everything they undertake in the best possible way, such people devote themselves to their own business without reserve.

Svetlana Sorokina’s personal life consists of two marriages. Both ended quickly. Nothing is known about the journalist’s first wife, but the TV presenter kept the last name of her first husband.

Svetlana Sorokina and Vladimir Grechishkin

With her second husband, television cameraman Vladimir Grechishkin, family happiness and idyll ensued. But television did not leave the spouses time for two, taking away all their strength. The couple broke up.

Svetlana Sorokina was also credited with having a relationship with Sergei Shoigu, but the TV journalist denies such rumors. Svetlana Innokentievna claims that she has been friends with the minister for a long time and once, for fun, invited him to celebrate the New Year.

Svetlana Sorokina with her daughter

When the previous intensity and busyness disappeared, Svetlana Sorokina thought about family. In 2003, the journalist’s adopted daughter Antonina appeared in her life, a dear person who warmed the woman’s life with warm light. Svetlana Innokentievna took Tonya from an orphanage and managed to replace the girl’s own mother. Svetlana Sorokina does not have her own children, but her adopted daughter has long become like family to the journalist.
