Biography
“Ural dumplings” left the KVN stage a long time ago, going into free swimming. However, to this day this team remains a legend of the Club of the Cheerful and Resourceful, and the jokes of the Ural residents went beyond the gaming scene and turned into aphorisms. And if the British and Americans can answer a rhetorical question “42” in memory of Douglas Adams, then Russian-speaking people have no need for numbers - thanks to “Ural Dumplings” the gladiolus will explain everything for them.
Ural dumplings girls in the composition
The girls participating in the Ural dumplings are the favorites of the public. The very first Lady Humor came in 2008, just as the group began to expand. Over time, some of them left the project, and those who remained to this day delight with their play and charisma.
- Ural dumplings by Alena Tigleva. One of the few actresses who decided not to continue her career as a comedian. She joined the project in 2000. The team and the audience immediately fell in love with her. She performed her first episode of “Hurray, Degree” in the show of the same name in 2010. She was a registrar from the registry office. But this first became the last, and the actress disappeared from the concert stage forever. Now, the media are reporting that Alena works in the banking industry and has no plans to return. And the spectators, biting their elbows, are sad and ask to put on the registry office registrar mask again and play as best she can.
- Girl from dumplings Stefania-Maryana Gurskaya. The young actress spent only 2 years in the project. There are 2 versions of why she left: The media say that it was a quarrel with the team. Gurskaya refutes this version, saying that she realized that this is her ceiling in the show. She had a desire to develop in the acting field. She was cast in the TV series “Civil Defense”, played her role, and then disappeared from television life. She kept an Instagram page about weight loss, but soon deleted it. What the former comedian is doing now is unknown.
- Former participant of the Ural dumplings Yulia Mikhalkova. Popular Instagram blogger. 1 million people follow her page. You can find photos and videos from the gym and travel. Many people will think that Yulia doesn’t work at all. But that's not true. She left the show in the fall of 2021, the loss for the team was great, but the guys let her go with a positive attitude. Now Mikhalkova hosts a cooking show and is preparing to open her own comedy show. Lives in Moscow and loses his mind over her. He says that the rhythm of this city amazes and makes you fall in love, this is a place for development and prospects.
The girls from the show Ural Dumplings, promising young guys, one way or another, will forever remain favorite actors and comedians for their viewers. There is a famous saying: “There are no former comedians.” In fact, this is true. Those who knew how to joke and joked from the first grade made their way onto our television screens, were remembered and left a bright mark in our hearts. Let them now work in a bank, create promotion projects or run their own blog, it doesn’t matter. After all, an actor always remains an actor, and the good humor of these guys will be quoted and repeated on TV for a long time. Therefore, once again “Bravo!”

Team creation history
“Ural dumplings” were created in 1993 by Dmitry Sokolov, a student at the chemistry department of the Ural Polytechnic Institute. At that time, he was no longer a newcomer to KVN, having already been a member of the “Neighbors” team, which broke up shortly before the collection of “dumplings”.

The name did not appear by chance: students, constantly strapped for money, dreamed of visiting the expensive Sverdlovsk restaurant “Ural Dumplings”, but could not afford it. In honor of the pipe dream, the team received a name that a few years later became known to every KVN fan.
The gaming debut turned out to be a victory - in 1993, the Ural Dumplings defeated the team of the Law Institute. And 2 years later, in 1995, they turned out to be the champions of Yekaterinburg, beating the Cavalry team of USU. Gorky.
At this stage, the streak of victories temporarily stopped. In 1995, “Ural Dumplings” showed themselves worthily at the festival in Sochi and were invited to a gala concert and to the Major League. And there the guys had to rock for 4 years in the shadow of the venerable KVN teams in search of their own style.

Captain of the Ural Dumplings Andrey Rozhkov
For 3 years, the Ural Dumplings did not manage to get beyond the 1/4 finals, but the situation changed radically in 1998. Then the team managed to reach the semi-finals and meet there with the Tomsk “Children of Lieutenant Schmidt”, and at the same time make history. This game was the first after the financial crisis of 1998 and was remembered by KVN fans for its specific gloomy atmosphere and a significant number of political jokes, which are difficult to imagine on modern television.
The parody of Mowgli deserves special mention, in which Akela said goodbye to the flock in Yeltsin’s voice - here the “dumplings” anticipated the events with the departure of the president. As a result, the Urals lost to the Tomsk team, but 1998 was a turning point. Already in 2000, “Ural Dumplings” won a long-awaited triumph, becoming champions of the major league and at the same time unofficially receiving the title of the last champions of the 20th century.
“Ural dumplings” - Special project “55 years of KVN”
After that, the team did not take part in the Major League championships. In 2021, at the “Special Project KVN-55”, the players joked about this topic, saying that they stopped playing because the champions were skipping the next season, which means that the return of the “Ural Dumplings” should be expected in the 22nd century.
However, the team continued to travel to festivals, regularly becoming winners of prestigious awards. They have won the 2002 KVN Summer Cup, the Big KiViN in gold, 2 Big KiViNs in light, and the same number in dark.
After the final departure of the Ural Dumplings from the KVN stage, a gap appeared in the space of the club. According to Andrei Chivurin, a big fan of the team, no one managed to fill it.
Elena Shabalina, costume designer
Not a single Ural Dumplings concert is complete without a person who decides what the actors will wear today and whether they will wear them at all. Everyone, without exception, admits that she, costume designer Elena Shabalina, is in charge behind the scenes. |
“I have been working with Pelmeni for 14 years, and during this time I have acquired enormous power over them. This makes me very happy. I can dress them however I want, tell them it's good, and they'll believe me. I really love working with Ural Dumplings, so as long as the team exists, I will always be in it.
All our tours are a series of funny events. But I remember one story especially well. For the number we needed a drum and a stick. The drum was provided to us, but at the last moment the owner for some reason took it back. I was very afraid that something would happen to him. And now you have to go on stage, but there’s no drum! Namely, the whole number is tied to it, the main joke! There weren't many jokes in this issue anyway, but if this one had failed, everything would have fallen apart.
We found some kind of bedside table near the stage, and Dima Sokolov came out with this bedside table on legs, like a drum. And he hit it with some kind of stick, which he found somewhere behind the scenes. It turned out very funny!
Command structure
The captain of the Ural Dumplings was Andrei Rozhkov, who also wrote jokes (as did almost all the team members). Dmitry Sokolov, founder of the team and former player of “Neighbors” UPI, from the very beginning and during performances, as a rule, exploited his own characteristic and rather brutal appearance. Vice-captain Sergei Isaev also came from Neighbors with him.

At the origins of the team was Dmitry Brekotkin, who became a UPI student by accident: there was scanty competition at the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering, which made the issue of admission easier. By the way, Dmitry never graduated from the institute, but he remained on the team until the very end and subsequently repeatedly appeared in the show “Ural Dumplings.”

Vyacheslav Myasnikov joined the team in 1999 from the “Levelling Guys” of the Ural State Forestry University (where he held the position of captain) and remained with the “dumplings”, repeatedly participating in “golden” numbers - such as, for example, a miniature about Vladimir Putin choosing ringtones On the mobile phone.

A prominent member of the team was Sergei Svetlakov, who in 2000 joined the Urals from the “Park of the Current Period” team. After completing his playing career with Ural Dumplings, he became a popular Russian comedian, having been a resident of the Comedy club, a participant in Nasha Rashi, and co-host of the ProjectorParisHilton program.

Maxim Yaritsa, Sergey Ershov, Sergey Kalugin and Sergey Netievsky also played as part of the Ural Dumplings. But there were no women in the permanent composition of the Kaveen team, except for Olga Zakharova and Alena Tigleva: Yulia Mikhalkova-Matyukhina, Ksenia Korneva and Ilana Yuryeva already came to the show of the same name.
Program participants
The rights to the Ural Dumplings brand and the content it produces are divided equally between 10 members of the team. All of them are from the champion squad of the KVN Major League in 2000, and their names are familiar to all fans of comedy programs.

The permanent captain of the team is Andrey Rozhkov, although every second participant could take on the role of team leader, possessing sufficient talent and charisma for this. In the show, Andrey has the position of artistic director, actor and author. For a year and a half he served as acting director, replacing Sergei Netievsky, who left this position.
Netievsky left “Pelmeni” due to a conflict related to the rights to the show. The team and the former participant repeatedly entered into legal battles with each other, bringing material claims. Since 2015, the former producer and director left the creative association and is working on other projects.

Dmitry Brekotkin
It is impossible to imagine “Ural dumplings” without Dmitry Brekotkin. He has been the team's central actor since the very beginning and plays a wide range of emotions with brilliance. His characters can be impudent, stupid, ridiculous and cheerful, but they invariably evoke laughter from the public and the audience's love.
Dmitry knows very well the mechanism by which jokes are constructed, so he prefers absurd humor, the train of thought in which is difficult to predict. Brekotkin also takes part in other humorous projects, including two roles in a full-length comedy film.

Sergey Ershov
The founder of the KVN student team was Dmitry Sokolov. And today he is an indispensable participant in the humorous action, which is broadcast from STS screens. Sokolov has a little of the sad clown and a lot of the philosopher. An artist's mere appearance on stage is sometimes enough to earn applause. The oldest member of the group, he is both an author and an actor.
A little younger than him, Sergei Ershov is the man who leads the group of authors. Since the days of Kavehan's past, Ershov preferred to write rather than act, so he rarely appeared on stage, remaining the brains of the group. Today on the “Show “Ural Dumplings”” Sergei remains true to himself and appears on camera less often than others, although the viewer has already appreciated the man’s acting talent in the TNT comedy “Real Boys”.

Ilana Yuryeva
Vyacheslav Myasnikov, the youngest participant from the 2000 champion lineup, has been demonstrating his singing talent and acting skills for many years. Sergey Isaev, Maxim Yaritsa, Alexander Popov, along with other Urals residents, combine the duties of authors and actors. Sergey Kalugin is responsible for the musical accompaniment of the project. In 2016, Artem Pushkin and Danila Pyatkin joined the team, as well as Roman Postovalov, who previously performed in two seasons of Comedy Battle and wrote jokes for the KVN team Urgent Call.
There were no girls in the KVN team “Ural Dumplings”. But in the show on STS, the guys invited fellow countrywoman Yulia Mikhalkova, who began to play female roles. Over time, Ilana Yuryeva and Ksenia Korneva joined her.
In the fall of 2021, it became known that Mikhalkova had left the team of comedians. The woman reported this on her Instagram, supporting the post with a photo. Julia explained this decision by saying that she had outgrown the show and wanted further development.
Around the same time, rumors appeared on the Internet that Myasnikov had also left, but this information has not yet been officially confirmed. According to insiders, this happened due to a conflict between Vyacheslav and the producer of the STS TV channel, Vyacheslav Murugov.
Best Performances
During the period of playing in KVN, “Ural Dumplings” were distinguished by their characteristic intellectual and experimental humor in both songs and jokes. A parody of the game “What?” is considered a textbook number. Where? When?”, which gave a universal answer to any questions – “because gladiolus.”
“Ural dumplings” - “Because gladiolus”
It is worth noting that many of Kaveen’s jokes were widely distributed among the public, but the “dumplings” gladiolus is unique - in addition to its popularity, it was also awarded 2 separate articles in non-format Internet encyclopedias, “Lurkomorye” and “Absurdopedia”.
Another indicative number of “Ural Dumplings” is the miniature “Delchev’s Somersault” about the entrance exams to the Institute of Physical Culture. There, the Kaveen team also offered the public a version of a universal answer, but Delchev and Krupsky were unable to completely repeat the success of the gladiolus.
“Ural dumplings” - “Salto Delcheva”
After the end of active games in KVN, in 2007, as part of a special project, the team gave the audience an unforgettable number about how Cyril and Methodius invented the Russian language. After it, viewers had the opportunity to reconsider the traditional view of the reason for the need for replacement shoes at school. And the phrase “Caution! The quotation marks are closed! It’s hard to forget even if you want to.
Fans of Svetlakov probably remember him in the image of Doctor Verkhovtsev, who took the oath to Bormann. And, of course, it is difficult to forget the hero who challenges the Poganous Idol to battle. But the best performances of the team are not always long numbers or full-fledged miniatures. Sometimes a few seconds are enough, as, for example, in the episode with Sokolov and the stew at the festival in Jurmala in 1999.
"Ural dumplings" now
Now the team has been functioning independently of KVN for a long time, and its members have created many independent humorous projects for television and stage. Former Ural Dumplings players can be seen in the show of the same name and in other comedy programs.
Show “Ural dumplings” in 2021
Fans of the Club of the Cheerful and Resourceful argue about how successful the post-Kaveen projects of former players are. Some consider them successful, others are of the opinion that former KVN players have nothing to do with humor. But it’s hard to argue with one thing: “Ural Dumplings” were an extremely popular team during the period of participation in competitions and festivals, and then became an extremely popular commercial humor project.
This is evidenced by television ratings, indicating the demand for the show, as well as the popularity of the actors among modern audiences - even among those who have never seen them play in the seasons of the Club of the Cheerful and Resourceful.
Five incredible stories from the workers behind the scenes of Ural Dumplings
03/14/2016 — FanPelmeni — News | leave a comment
How to make a Ferrari out of bread, why Dmitry Sokolov needs edged weapons from the times of the Mongol-Tatar yoke and who makes sure that Yulia Mikhalkova doesn’t mix up her dresses - read in the report from behind the scenes of one of the most famous humorous shows in Russia.
“Ural dumplings” are, first of all, Sergey Isaev, Andrey Rozhkov, Dmitry Sokolov, Dmitry Brekotkin, Vyacheslav Myasnikov, Maxim Yaritsa, Sergey Kalugin, Sergey Ershov, Alexander Popov and, of course, Yulia Mikhalkova and Ilana Yuryeva. You have seen each of them many times on the stage of the Youth Palace or on the TV screen. But few people know that there is actually much more to “Pelmeni”. These are scriptwriters, directors, decorators, costume designers, make-up artists, prop masters, and assistants... In total - more than a hundred people .
Having met them on the street, you will most likely pass by, not even realizing that without these people not a single performance of your favorite team could take place. This weekend, a correspondent for one well-known Yekaterinburg Portal visited the backstage of the premiere show “ You Can’t Be in the Porthole ” and talked with those who always remain behind the scenes.
Most of the team members call themselves “home front workers,” and the director of “Ural Dumplings” Sergei Isaev agrees with this definition: without them nothing would have happened.
Sergey Isaev , actor and director of “Ural Dumplings”:
— From the outside it may seem that our team consists of only ten people who perform on stage, but you can’t even imagine how many people work behind the scenes! Without them everything would be very bad. It would not be a show, but some artistic group performing on a bare stage, without costumes, scenery, makeup, light and sound.
During the Pelmeni show in Yekaterinburg, 130 people work behind the scenes of the Youth Palace, and in Moscow there are even more - 200. It is interesting that the team differs in different cities. It would be too expensive to take more than a hundred people with them, so actors take on tour only those specialists they absolutely cannot do without: a costume designer, a props person, a director, a make-up artist.
During the existence of " Ural Dumplings " a strong team has formed in Yekaterinburg. Many have worked here for decades. Today we will introduce you to a game props master, a props designer, an acting assistant, a costume designer and a director. Each of them will tell about themselves.
Alexey Lazarev, game props master
He says that he has seen a lot over the years, but now he can make anything from scrap materials. During this time, Alexey even developed his own signs. “If they bring glasses and ask you to squeeze out the lenses, it means Rozhkov will again play the grandmother, but the glasses have been lost,” says the prop master. — Once, a few minutes before going on stage, Dmitry Sokolov and said: “I need a 48-size wooden bedside table that would catch ORT and could cook scrambled eggs!” And I did it. Another time, he asked to make 20 sabers, stylized to the times of the Tatar-Mongol yoke. In an hour! In fact, at first Sokolov asked for 100, but they didn’t find that many actors.
Often “Ural dumplings” require cigarettes for their number, but real ones are not allowed. I can make it smoke, but not smoke. Our butchers, for example, are very afraid of knives. You have to make rubber ones or “blunt” real ones. Even if they told me now to make a Ferrari for the number, I would do it. At least from bread crumb.
Usually I look at the grid with numbers and figure out what kind of props someone needs and what they can be made from. I buy the material and make everything necessary from it right here, behind the scenes. I always have a transport workshop with me. A small factory producing everything. Recently I counted in the warehouse what I have done in these 16 years . If you put everything on the scale, it would probably be 50 tons. I think it will be possible to open a museum soon!
Arthur Baznovsky, props designer
Arthur Baznovsky is in charge of larger props. He evaluates the scenery on stage and decides what can be added to it.
— I remember once Andrei Rozhkov played Baba Yaga. He had to beat Brekotkin with a club. And they forgot to put the club on stage. Andrey walked around the stage for a very long time, looking for her. The viewer, of course, did not notice anything. Thought it was part of the show. In general, this is how it all looked... At some point, Rozhkov could not stand it and began shouting so that it could be heard behind the stage: “There is no club! There is no club!” At that time we already understood everything, found the club and stood behind the scenes, laughing - we didn’t know how to give this club to him. They didn’t find anything better than to simply throw her over the scenery. So she literally fell out of the sky onto him. It looked very funny. Rozhkov was not taken aback and said: “Oh, clubs are falling from the sky!”
Oksana Troitskaya, acting assistant
During the concert, something incredible happens behind the scenes. In a hurry, performers may forget to change clothes or makeup. Or they may even appear on stage at the most inopportune moment. For such cases, the team has a special person - assistant for working with actors Oksana Troitskaya.
— The most difficult and at the same time exciting thing is that the concept can change several times in a day. The numbers, the order of appearance, and the artists themselves are swapped. In the morning a dwarf and a trained Great Dane are needed, by the evening six small children, at night the children are replaced by fat men with choreographic training. Time is very limited - rehearsals take only two and a half days. In these 70 hours you need to do everything, and if you don’t have time, find another solution. In the case of fat people, for example, we put bellies on dancers of normal build.
One day a truly scary story happened to me. We invited two actors, they were very old. I remember how proud they were to be invited to participate in the show! They sat and waited for their turn for a long time, and then it turned out that their number was cancelled... In fact, this often happens. In five minutes, a concept can change ten times. But then I just didn’t know how to tell them about it... Of course, we seated the old people in the hall and apologized for their time wasted. This also happens.
Everyone who works on site has a special drive. The pace is set by the “Pelmeni” themselves, and you either work with them at the same speed, or fall out of the “pan” for good. I’ve been brewing for the second year now and every time I watch with delight how an awesome show is created in a couple of weeks.
Elena Shabalina, costume designer
Not a single Ural Dumplings concert is complete without a person who decides what the actors will wear today and whether they will wear them at all. Everyone, without exception, admits that she, costume designer Elena Shabalina, is in charge behind the scenes.
— I have been working with Pelmeni for 14 years , and during this time I have acquired enormous power over them. This makes me very happy. I can dress them however I want, tell them it's good, and they'll believe me. I really love working with Ural Dumplings, so as long as the team exists, I will always be in it.
All our tours are a series of funny events .
Ekaterina Rozova, second director
Ekaterina is responsible for everything and everyone on the set, so she is rightfully considered one of the most irreplaceable and responsible backstage workers.
— The first director of “ Ural Dumplings ” is fully responsible for how the number looks. Therefore, during rehearsals, he sits in the auditorium, advises how best to present this or that phrase, and gives recommendations on stage movement. In Yekaterinburg, these tasks are solved by the actors themselves, because only the Moscow team has a first director. My job as the second director is to implement the goals they set and make sure that everything works during the show. Actors should go on stage and play, and not worry about their props, scenery, light...
During a concert, I coordinate the work of all services: I make sure that the musicians play exactly as much as necessary; to have the right light and scenery; so that the location that goes on stage is not empty; so that all things are in their place. Of course, we also have mistakes. Sometimes actors talk not on the phone, but on the palm of their hand or shoot with their finger. This is the human factor. In my opinion, it is impossible to avoid this. We always work in a hurry. This is our format.
If the location has already turned, and we notice that some detail is missing, then we try by hook or by crook to push it onto the stage. If the audience notices this, they usually begin to applaud or laugh. Therefore, sometimes unforeseen difficulties even save the room. But no matter what happens, we never stop the concert. Even while filming in Moscow.
Some of the behind-the-scenes team of Ural Dumplings got into it by accident, some were looking for a long time, and some had long dreamed of working here. During the conversation, the show participants admitted that they really love their work and more than anything else they want to feel useful and needed behind the scenes. They call themselves one family and always correct when they talk about “Ural dumplings” as a theater. “As Faina Ranevskaya said, the theater is a terrarium of like-minded people,” one of our interlocutors noted. “And Ural Dumplings is not theater, it’s friendship.”
They are doing the Ural dumplings show
Let us remind you that in the near future viewers from Yekaterinburg will be able to see “ Ural Dumplings ” on April 8 and 9. The team will present a new program “ Your Garden ”.
