Childhood and youth
Ekaterina Strizhenova (maiden name Tokman) was born in March 1968 in Moscow. Catherine’s father is a writer and journalist by profession, founder of the Student Meridian magazine Vladimir Illarionovich Tokman. Mother Valentina Yakovlevna Tokman is a philologist by training, worked as a teacher of the Russian language, and then as an employee of the presidential administration of the Russian Federation.
When Katya was 6 years old, and her older sister Victoria was 12, grief came to the family: their father died from an incurable cancer. At the age of 36, Valentina Yakovlevna was left alone with two children and devoted her entire future life to their upbringing.
