Muslim Magomaev
Childhood
Muslim Magomayev was born in 1942 in Baku, the sunny capital of Azerbaijan! The boy’s father died tragically at the front, about two weeks short of the great Victory... During his life, he was a theater artist, which largely explains his marriage to Aishet Magomayeva: two bright creative personalities instantly fell in love with each other! Muslim’s mother performed under the pseudonym Kinzhalova, and his grandfather, Abdul-Muslim Magomayev, was famous throughout Azerbaijan as a talented composer! Thus, our hero’s musical career was destined from the very beginning of his life’s journey...
When the war ended, Aishet and little Muslim went to Vyshny Volochek. There Magomayev entered a music school and managed to make friends with whom he created a puppet theater! But a year later Aishet sent her son to Baku. The woman was sure that it was there that Muslim would be able to get the best education.
In Baku, Muslim was raised in the family of his uncle Jamal. It is worth noting that the boy’s mother turned out to be right: here, in his hometown, Magomayev plunged headlong into music... He was greatly influenced by the opera masters of the Italian stage, such as Enrico Caruso, Mattia Battistini, Titta Ruffo...
It just so happened that the family of the famous Azerbaijani singer Bulbul lived next door to Uncle Jamal! So... every morning Muslim listened, not without pleasure, to the opera star singing...
What does Muslim Magomayev's grave look like now?
His fans regularly come to the grave of Muslim Magomayev and bring flowers with them (by the way, before they even have time to wither, new bright compositions appear). The great artist is remembered even today, almost 12 years after he passed away.

The territory of the artist’s grave is completely covered with brown tiles, there is a small flower bed with tulips, behind which there is a monument of extraordinary beauty depicting Muslim Magomayev performing on stage.
Looking at this monument, many fans of the artist see in it something romantic, upbeat and even pathetic. Some even feel the very power with which Magomayev performed his great songs, which for many years will be in the hearts of not only the present, but also several future generations.
Musical education
Soon Muslim was sent to a music school at the Baku Conservatory. And if the boy had only A’s in piano, solfeggio and choral singing, then the more exact sciences were clearly “limping”... Although, it was music that turned out to be Magomayev’s lucky ticket to Olympus of glory! But more about this significant development a little later...
As a result, Muslim’s talent was noticed by a professor at the conservatory, Vladimir Anshelevich. It was he who taught the boy how to sharpen his voice, which greatly helped Magomayev in the future!
Muslim continued to improve his vocals at the Baku Music College, and in the late 1950s received a diploma in music education.
Childhood and youth
Muslim Magomayev was born on August 17, 1942 in Baku. Father Magomet Magomayev died at the front, 15 days short of the great Victory. Before the war, Magomet Muslimovich worked as a theater artist. Muslim Magomayev’s mother Aishet is a dramatic actress who took the pseudonym Kinzhalova. Turkish, Adyghe and Russian blood flowed in her veins. Muslim considered himself an Azerbaijani and Russia as his mother. The grandfather of the future artist is the Azerbaijani composer Abdul-Muslim Magomayev, the founder of national classical music.
Muslim Magomayev in childhood
After the war, Muslim Magomayev and his mother went to Vyshny Volochek, where the actress Kinzhalova was thrown by creative fate. The boy studied at a music school for a year and became friends with his classmates, infecting the children with the idea of creating a puppet theater. Muslim made the puppets for performances himself. But Aishet sent her son to Baku, where, in her opinion, the musically gifted boy would receive the best education.
In Baku, Muslim Magomayev grew up in the family of his uncle Jamal Muslimovich. Mother from Vyshny Volochok moved to Murmansk, where she worked at the local drama theater. Aishet married a second time and Muslim had a brother, Yuri, and a sister, Tatyana.

In his hometown, the guy plunged headlong into music. Muslim Magomayev spent hours listening to the “trophy” records of Enrico Caruso, Mattia Battistini and Titta Ruffo.
Next door to his uncle lived the family of the famous Azerbaijani singer Bulbul, and Muslim listened to the star singing in the mornings. Magomayev became friends with Bulbul’s son, Polad.
The boy’s successes at the music school at the Baku Conservatory, where his uncle took him, turned out to be half-hearted: in piano, solfeggio and choir lessons, Muslim was given the highest scores, but in physics, chemistry and mathematics, according to Magomayev, his brain “switched off.”
Muslim Magomayev in his youth
Cellist and professor Vladimir Anshelevich noticed a capable student and took him under his wing. The mentor showed the young vocalist how to sharpen his voice. Soon, the experience gained helped Muslim Magomayev in his work on the role of Figaro in the opera The Barber of Seville.
At the Baku Music College, the singer improved his vocals. His mentors were Alexander Milovanov and accompanist Tamara Kretingen, who devoted free time to the student. Magomayev was awarded the diploma in 1959.
The beginning of the way…
The first performance of the future star took place at the House of Culture of the Baku Sailors. However, fame fell on our hero only after a performance at the Kremlin Palace of Congresses in 1962. From now on, the story of his solo performances began...
Soon the talented guy was chosen as a soloist of the Azerbaijan Theater! At the same time, the singer did not abandon the stage.
Muslim Magometovich
In 1964, Muslim interned at the prestigious Milan theater La Scala, and a little later he toured the city of love, Paris, staging luxurious concerts at Olympia... By the way: the theater manager was fascinated by the talent of the Soviet artist, and even offered Magomayev a one-year contract! But... the prospect of becoming an international star was not shared by the USSR Ministry of Culture. In their opinion, Muslim should have performed exclusively in his homeland.
International success!
In addition to the stage, Muslim Magometovich managed to make a name for himself in cinema! He starred in a number of films, including “Muslim Magomayev Sings.” Magomayev also wrote music for films and theater performances, and later published his own book!
During the same period, the artist received his first “Golden Record” in Cannes! At the age of 31, Muslim Magometovich was recognized as a People's Artist of the Soviet Union and the Azerbaijan SSR.
Muslim Magomaev
Personal life and reason for early departure
In 1960, Muslim married a classmate named Ophelia. Daughter Maria was born. But she did not save the marriage - a year later it broke up. He was captured by creativity and popularity, a sea of fans. In 1972, he met the one who became his muse and the main woman in his life - Tamara Sinyavskaya. He took her away from the family and in 1974 they got married. They were connected by love, music, creativity. Things were not always simple and rosy, but they lived together until his last days.
Over time, Muslim began to have problems with blood vessels and heart - this was caused by a busy work schedule and a bad habit of smoking. At the age of 60, Magomaev decides to leave the stage. He and his wife travel a lot and relax. They were given six such years. On October 25, 2008, Muslim Magomayev died. The cause of death was an ischemic attack. Nearby was his love and muse Tamara.
Details of personal life...
Muslim Magomayev first became a husband at the age of 18. At that time, he was madly in love with a beauty of Azerbaijani origin named Ophelia...
Muslim and his first wife Ophelia
But when he announced his intentions to take the girl as his wife, his family, to put it mildly, was not delighted... Moreover: knowing the ardent disposition of her grandson, Muslim’s grandmother even hid his passport from him! But... with the help of tricks, Magomayev managed to win back his document! As a result, Muslim and Ophelia got married, although secretly from their family and friends. Later, when Magomayev’s family found out about this, his uncle only grumbled... He was sure that such an early marriage would not lead to anything good. And he turned out to be right... Despite the fact that Muslim and Ophelia had a daughter, the couple divorced already in 1963...
Magomayev’s personal life was full of passions... For some time, the singer lived in a civil marriage with Lyudmila Kareva, a music editor. Subsequently, they had an illegitimate child. The artist was also credited with an affair with actresses Natalya Kustinskaya and Natalya Fateeva! He did not ignore the singers Natavan Sheikhova and Svetlana Rezanova... As Magomaev himself admitted:
“I couldn’t belong to just one woman...”
However, Magomayev’s only truly beloved woman was the beautiful Tamara Sinyavskaya... Muslim fell head over heels in love with her from their first meeting, which, by the way, took place in 1972 in Baku, during a folk art festival...
For the sake of Magomayev, Tamara left her husband, and very soon she and Muslim became engaged... Later the singer said:
“Only with this woman did I feel truly alive and happy!”
Muslim and Tamara were the most famous pop couple of the USSR! They often performed on the same stage, organized creative evenings... Together they lived in perfect harmony for more than 30 years! And they would have lived even longer if the phenomenal baritone of the 20th century had not died in 2008...
Personal life
Such a handsome young man, and even with a unique voice, was incredibly popular among girls. Muslim first married in 1960 to his fellow student at the music school, the girl’s name was Ophelia. The couple had a daughter, Marina, but soon after that the marriage broke up. The daughter inherited her father’s gift for music, but in life she chose to choose a different profession. Now Marina lives in the USA, while Muslim was alive, she maintained a warm relationship with her father.
Magomayev’s second wife was Bolshoi Theater actress Tamara Sinyavskaya.
In 1972, a decade of Russian art was held in Baku, where the young actress Sinyavskaya was invited. It was here that she met Magomayev, which turned out to be fateful. She was married and did not intend to change anything in her family life, but contrary to common sense, feelings captured both Tamara and Muslim so much that they could no longer imagine life without each other. They got married in November 1974 and have been inseparable ever since.
Family life did not always develop smoothly; both were famous, with a strong character, rarely made concessions, but still did not find the strength to separate and live apart. The idyll arrived after Muslim finished his concert activities. The two of them often went on holiday to Baku, the place of their first meeting, where they enjoyed barbecue, the Caspian Sea and each other.
The couple lived in a dacha near Moscow, where they created a stunning garden with many alpine slides and plants. Tamara took care of the garden, and Muslim did his favorite thing - write music, make arrangements and draw.
