Fabric flower arrangements are common at weddings as an alternative to short-lived live plants. But the scope of application of such “floristry” is constantly expanding. Today, a beautiful bouquet of satin ribbons, made by yourself, is valued higher than a traditional flower arrangement. This is an independent gift, and not an addition to it, an exclusive handmade item that can decorate the interior, become an elegant accessory for photo shoots and simply lift your spirits.
DIY bridal bouquet made from fresh flowers
If you prefer a classic bouquet of fresh flowers, pay attention to the following details.
- The first rule of a bouquet is that the more magnificent and elegant the bride’s dress, the more modest the bouquet, and vice versa.
- You need to choose a flower not only based on your preferences, but also taking into account the time of year. Of course, you can buy imported flowers from Holland, but they will be very expensive. In addition, there is no guarantee that these flowers are fresh and they will survive until the holiday. Therefore, it is better to focus on those flowers that bloom in our country at this time of year.
- Flowers should be strong, fresh and safe for decoration. Long stamens with yellow pollen can stain the dress. And roses with large thorns can tear your dress. And the bride’s scratched hands are unlikely to advantageously decorate the bride’s image.
- If you are making a bouquet for the first time, practice with cheaper flowers in advance.
- Before making your own bridal bouquet, consult a florist. It's good if you have a friend who can help with the design. You can simply walk through flower shops, see what designs are in fashion now, and learn something for yourself.
- The color of the bouquet should be harmonious and also match the bride’s dress and the groom’s boutonniere. Brides often choose light, delicate shades: white, beige, peach, pale pink. But you can also choose bright colors if the bride and groom have accessories of the same color. If there are several flowers in the bouquet, they should complement each other. For example, similar shades look good together: blue and cyan, yellow and orange. But the bride can choose contrasting shades and skillfully play with them in the bouquet: blue and orange, red and green, purple and yellow.
- Make sure in advance that you are not allergic to the selected flowers. This applies to lilies and other strongly odorous plants, especially if they are brought from exotic countries.
- When choosing flowers, pay attention to the density of the bud. There should be no signs of fading or dark spots on it. A closed bud is not always a fresh one, which will then bloom. This can only be the core of a flower with the outer petals torn off.
- The bouquet should not be too heavy, because you will have to walk around with it all day. In addition, a bouquet that is too dense and heavy will be dangerous to throw to your girlfriends.
So, the flower variety has been chosen, now you need to decide what configuration the bouquet will be. Beginners don’t need to immediately rush to extremes and try to create a masterpiece. Sometimes a small and unpretentious bouquet is exactly what you need. But the abundance of flowers of different varieties, shades, sparkles and ribbons can result in something indistinct and awkward.
There are three common options for making your own bridal bouquet.
- Bouquet on stems. The simplest, but not the worst option. To make such a bouquet, just collect the flowers together, trim the stems and wrap them with ribbon. Then the bouquet can be decorated with beads or some sparkles. This bouquet looks beautiful, simple and elegant, but does not retain its freshness for long. Therefore, this option is suitable only for brides who do not plan to hold the bouquet in their hands all day.
- Bouquet on a wire. Essentially, this bouquet is made in the same way as the previous one, but a wire is inserted into each stem to hold the flower. The top of the trimmed stems is wrapped with decorative tape. This bouquet is stronger and denser, but requires more skill and time.
- Bouquet with a porta bouquet. The most common and long-lasting option. Before you make a bridal bouquet using a porta bouquet maker, you need to practice several times. The portbuket is a foam ball on a plastic base. The ball should be carefully moistened with water and the cut flowers should be inserted into it. It is advisable to cover the base with stems and ribbon that are left over from decorating the banquet hall and decorating cars with your own hands. The bouquet must be dense, otherwise it will crumble. However, it is not recommended to throw such a bouquet, as the flowers may fly out.
Choice of color and texture
The first step is to decide on the color and the necessary material. The satin for the bouquet should be in the color scheme of the wedding or in the same shade as the bride’s outfit.
It is also necessary to take into account the fabric from which the dress of the main hero of the occasion is made. After all, the lighter the fabric, the more delicate the shade of colors you need to choose.
If the bride’s outfit will already have a lot of jewelry, you need to make a modest bouquet of ribbons with your own hands.
When a young girl gets married, it is customary to make the bouquet elongated. If the bride is older, you should choose a round composition.
DIY chrysanthemum bridal bouquet
Chrysanthemum is a flower of innocence, tenderness and mystery. A wedding bouquet of white chrysanthemums can be simple, elegant or bright and bold. But the most important thing is that it will not cost much.
This flower is very resistant to cold, so it is perfect for winter and autumn weddings. Chrysanthemum does not tolerate extreme heat, but a porta bouquet will help solve this problem. You can combine several flowers in a bouquet, as well as flowers of various shapes: double, hemispherical, flat. White flowers will go well with bright yellow, delicate lilac or dark red. Such a bouquet will not be inferior in originality to even the rarest exotic flowers.
Chrysanthemums are beautiful both on their own and in combination with other varieties. For example, for a wedding in a rustic style, we can recommend a bouquet of white and lilac chrysanthemums with bells and dark green leaves along the edge. This bouquet is easy to make yourself. The best option would be a wire bouquet with a delicate pink or white ribbon.
For bright brides looking to make an impression, an excellent option would be a bouquet of bright sunny yellow chrysanthemums with delicate greenery, decorated with yellow transparent fabric and the same yellow satin ribbon.
Chrysanthemums can be combined not only with other flowers, but also with berries, for example, rowan. This combination can be used at both a classic and a themed wedding.
Combinations of roses with other flowers
A wedding bouquet of red roses or varieties of other colors undoubtedly looks very elegant. But in many cases, in order to emphasize the stylistic direction of the wedding, the composition of roses is supplemented with other garden, greenhouse and even wildflowers. There are many options for such combinations. The main thing is to create an arrangement that will optimally convey the mood and style of the celebration.
For a celebration in a classic style, a lush bouquet of roses and lilies in white or cream tones is suitable. For a romantic wedding with Provence, boho or shabby chic attributes, compositions of medium and small sizes in pastel colors would be appropriate. In these cases, for example, a bouquet of cream roses, complemented by eustoma, freesia, sprigs of gypsophila or lavender inflorescences, is suitable.
- Arrangements with irises. When composing contrasting wedding compositions, a combination of roses and irises is often used. The pure blue tones of irises harmonize well with cream, soft pink, and light lilac shades. They will add brightness and dynamism to a bouquet of pastel roses. Irises can also be combined with varieties of bright colors. For example, they will be a wonderful color accent in a wedding bouquet of orange roses.
- Arrangements with eustoma. Eustoma are beautiful delicate flowers that add a romantic charm to the composition. As a rule, large-flowered varieties of bush or tea roses are chosen for mixed arrangements. Small double corollas of eustoma create the ideal background for regal roses, highlighting the beauty of their forms. Even a small wedding bouquet of eustoma and spray roses will look very lush and elegant.
- Arrangements with alstroemeria (Peruvian lily). The symbolism of the bride's bouquet of spray roses and alstroemerias fully reveals the essence of the wedding celebration. The Peruvian lily represents beauty and sensuality. The rose symbolizes love, harmony, morality, fidelity.
When making a bouquet of roses with your own hands, you can use other combinations of plants. Flowers such as carnations, chrysanthemums, daffodils, and peonies are often included in mixed arrangements. These bouquets are very beautiful. But after the mixed composition is placed in a vase, the roses will quickly fade. Chrysanthemums, carnations and daffodils release toxic substances into the water that inhibit other plants.
DIY bridal bouquet of roses
Roses have been and remain the most popular wedding flowers. Delicate, beautiful, with a soft aroma, they can decorate any wedding.
The rose is known to be a symbol of love and fidelity. You can choose any colors to suit your taste: tea, white, peach, bright scarlet, pink. A bouquet of roses of different colors will look good. A bouquet of classic white roses can be decorated with translucent fabric, beads and dark greenery.
Pale roses go well with sprigs of gypsophila. This bouquet looks gentle and chic at the same time.
As a bright option, you can use a combination of white, orange or bright yellow and pink roses. The smaller the bouquet and the closer the flowers are to each other, the more impressive the composition will look in the hands of the bride. It is advisable to choose medium-sized and dense buds.
Buds of contrasting colors can be laid out in circles to create stripes, for example, scarlet and white. This bouquet is best made using a porta bouquet maker, so that the shape of a ball is obtained.
Master classes
Now it's time to learn how to make your own flowers for a bouquet of ribbons using the master classes below.
Bouquet with roses made of satin ribbons
What you will need:
- foam ball (diameter 11 cm);
- stationery knife;
- satin ribbon (white 2.5 cm wide, green 5 cm wide, pink 5 cm);
- thin white ribbon (width 0.5 cm);
- cardboard tube;
- skewers;
- glue gun;
- lace optional;
- beads for decoration.
Step-by-step instructions for making the base of a bride’s bouquet from ribbons with your own hands:
- We cut the foam ball in half, use one part as a base, and do not throw away the second, but crumble it into small pieces to fill the tube. This will be necessary to ensure that the skewers hold well.
- Use a utility knife to cut off the required length for the handle of the tube. Carefully insert the skewers into the base of the handle through the foam. The more you can stick in, the stronger the composition will be.
- Now you need to insert the skewers into the hemisphere, but not all the way, leaving 0.3-0.4 mm to lubricate the edge of the handle with glue. All that remains is to press the two parts of the bouquet tightly together and wait a little.
- A thin white tape needs to be glued around the entire composition (hemisphere + handle).
- We glue a wide white satin ribbon along the edge of the foam base and cover the base of the handle with it so that the hole is not visible.
- We decorate the stem of the bouquet with a wide green ribbon and secure it with glue.
- We frame the bottom of the handle with lace.
Next, we make roses for a bouquet from ribbons with our own hands:
- We cut the pink ribbon (you can choose any suitable shade) into pieces 11 cm long, there should be 8 pieces.
- From the wrong side, from above, we wrap the edges of the pieces by 0.5 mm.
- On each piece on the right you need to fold the corner, then fold the corner inward again from the same side. Holding the corner with tweezers, cut off the unnecessary part with scissors at an angle and burn it with fire.
- On the front side of the first petal, apply glue to the edge and twist it to the end. Having done all this with each petal, you will get a very beautiful bud. The size of such a flower can be made smaller or larger. All that remains is to make the required number of buds; it is better to dilute the composition with white flowers, so it will be more tender. We glue all the flowers onto the base and get such a beautiful composition. All that remains is to decorate the base of the handle with rhinestones and the roses with beads.
Finally, you need to decorate the bouquet with green satin leaves. We cut pieces of 10-12 cm, fold them in half, singe the edges and glue them at the bottom. So that the joint is not visible, we paste it with rhinestones. All that remains is to tie a thin white ribbon around the base and the composition is ready.
Final result:
Peony
Material:
- Ribbon (width 5 cm).
- Scissors.
- Candle or lighter.
- Needle with thread.
To make this flower for a ribbon bouquet with your own hands, you need to follow these step-by-step instructions.
- Cut the tape into squares of different sizes, 6-10 pieces each (5*7 cm, 4*6 cm, 3*5 cm, 2*4 cm). The more petals there are, the more magnificent the peony will be, but for a wedding bouquet you should not make it too large.
- Then all the petals must be laid out into 4 piles, according to their sizes, and the shapes shown in the photo must be cut out.
- Now the most interesting step is giving shape and volume to the petals. The petals must be kept at a distance of 2 cm above the fire and the edges must be melted. You need to rotate the petals quickly but smoothly, giving them the desired shape.
- Forming a peony bud. The smallest petal goes to the center. You need to roll it up and make a couple of stitches at the bottom to secure it. This will be the core of the flower.
- We attach the remaining petals and also secure them with thread. The results are very beautiful peonies, as if they were alive.
Using the same principle, you can make any other flowers by changing the number, shape and color of the petals.
DIY bridal bouquet of peonies
An interesting and delicate wedding bouquet of peonies will not go unnoticed. This beautiful flower with a delicate aroma, which we are already accustomed to seeing in our gardens, is a symbol of well-being, respect and love.
For beginners in the world of floristry who have no idea how to make a bouquet for the bride with their own hands, this flower is a real find. Even without additional decorations, tightly held peony buds are a work of art. Both open buds and dense closed ones will look equally good.
Peonies are quite delicate, so it will be better if you place the bouquet in water during the holiday feast.
An excellent background for peonies will be the greenery of geraniums, irises and even decorative apples. Closed small buds of peonies go well with roses. These flowers complement each other not only in appearance, but also in smell. You can combine open pink peonies and white roses, white closed peonies and tea roses, hot pink roses and pale peonies, etc.
If you want to surprise your guests with a chic bouquet, combine white orchids and pink peonies. This composition will become a real decoration for any outfit.
Decorative elements
Here you can show your imagination and make your own ribbon bouquets with the following decorative elements:
- beads (pearls on a wire that are inserted into the center of the bud);
- decorative pendants or rhinestones;
- elegant brooches.
Important! The most important thing when decorating is not to overdo it, because this will make the entire structure heavier.
DIY bridal bouquet of tulips
Wedding bouquets made from these bright spring flowers are not so often seen. However, compositions made from tulips are perfect for slender brides who want to emphasize their fragility.
These simple and at the same time exquisite flowers have many types, shapes, and colors that allow you to fully express your imagination. If you don't know how to make your own bridal bouquet, consult a professional.
A bouquet of purple tulips will set off the bride's white dress and add brightness to the whole image. To do this, just combine the flowers into a bouquet and tie them with a bright colored or white satin ribbon.
Bouquets combining tulips and irises are incredibly beautiful. It is better to place larger irises in the center, and delicate tulips at the edges. The same applies to the combination of tulips and roses. Usually roses steal the spotlight, and tulips only complement them.
A bouquet of bright yellow and white tulips will look great. This bouquet will suit the image of a modest bride, in a simple but elegant dress without ruffles, sequins and hundreds of skirts.
Advantages
Why should you choose satin ribbons to make a bouquet with your own hands? This material has the following advantages:
- Long lasting. This composition will not wither, the leaves will not fall off.
- Has a wide range of colors. You can choose ribbons in an unusual color, this will make the bouquet more original, because flowers are very difficult to find in such a palette.
- Keeps its shape and does not wrinkle. Therefore, unlike a bouquet with fresh flowers, you can make it in advance and not worry about its condition during the celebration.
- It will fit perfectly with a bride's dress made of satin and decorated with lace, pearls, rhinestones or other decorative elements.
- It will not stain the bride's outfit with pollen.
Fans of traditional celebrations, of course, prefer the use of fresh flowers in the bride’s bouquet and criticize something else. However, it is the bride’s bouquet of ribbons, made by hand, that allows you to add uniqueness to the image.

DIY bouquet for the bride from callas
Callas are suitable for romantic people. These discreet but graceful flowers can increasingly be found at wedding celebrations.
A bouquet of callas does not need to be supplemented with anything: they will create a finished composition on their own. The most common colors are white and orange.
In Europe, callas are called mourning flowers and are woven into wreaths. However, the Slavs do not have such a tradition, so you can safely please yourself with a bouquet of these solemn flowers, which will certainly bring you happiness and prosperity.
A simple small bouquet of white and yellow callas with greenery, without unnecessary decorations and tied with a white ribbon, will look beautiful and gentle.
A bouquet of white callas will become even more beautiful if the “leg” is decorated with beads resembling pearls.
There are also rare black calla lilies for the most daring brides. However, black, as practice suggests, is still inappropriate at a wedding.
Interesting white callas with a yellow core will decorate the holiday with their originality.
Tips for creating
The most interesting stage is decorating the bouquet. There are no restrictions here - the result depends solely on your taste preferences.
You can make improvised petals from wide green ribbons by bending them in half and attaching them to the handle. Rhinestones and beads look incredibly beautiful surrounded by satin flowers. If you have some imagination, you can wrap the base of the bouquet with lace, imitating the floral packaging that is familiar to us.
Interesting! The bride's bouquet can be thrown in an original way. How exactly - read in this article of ours.
To ensure that your hand-made bridal bouquet duplicate stays in its original state longer, treat it with a special product that preserves the aroma.
An original solution would be lyophilization - dry freezing of flowers that will make up a stand-in bouquet for a wedding, also known as sublimation. Afterwards, you can place the bouquet in a beautiful glass vase so that it continues to delight the couple. At a wedding ceremony, frozen flowers can add some zest if you make them the center of the serving composition during the feast.
DIY artificial bridal bouquet
The reasons for refusing fresh flowers can be very different: allergies or a craving for something more extravagant. You can replace fresh flowers with artificial ones or other, more interesting options. Such a bouquet will not wither, and it can be kept at home for many years in memory of a wonderful wedding day.
- Bouquet of satin ribbons. A DIY bridal bouquet made from ribbons is an interesting and original option for girls who want to show off their skills. To make such a bouquet, you need to stock up on multi-colored ribbons, lace, beads, and seed beads. You will also need a foam ball to which flowers, wire, sticks, glue, and scissors will be attached. Flowers made from rolled ribbons look very delicate and beautiful. Satin ribbons shimmer in bright light, which is very useful during a photo shoot.
- Bouquet of ready-made artificial flowers. You can buy artificial flowers in a store and put them together into a bouquet yourself. However, the flowers must be of high quality, made of bright, dense materials. A do-it-yourself bridal bouquet made from artificial flowers will relieve you of fears that the arrangement will fall apart or wither during the celebration.
- Bouquet of beads and jewelry. A fabulous bouquet of various jewelry, stones and beads is very beautiful. However, there is a danger of overdoing it. An overly overloaded multi-colored bouquet will distract attention from the bride.
- Bouquet made of polymer clay. Such flowers look like real ones, but such a bouquet will be heavy, and it is not recommended to throw it away. You can buy polymer clay at any craft store. Clay is similar to plasticine, easily sculpted, and then hardens under the influence of high temperatures. Polymer clay can also be painted using special paints. If handled correctly, such a bouquet will last a very long time. The only and significant drawback is the high price of the material.
- Bouquet of paper flowers. Paper flowers look very beautiful and natural if you make them skillfully. However, such flowers must be protected from rain and other moisture. And do not forget that the paper must be thick.
- Bouquet of kanzashi flowers. Kanzashi flowers are incredibly beautiful products made from satin fabric. Flowers can be of different shapes, colors, sizes, with different numbers of petals. They can be decorated with sequins, sparkles, and beads. However, making such a bouquet will require a lot of time and patience. Each petal and leaf is the fruit of painstaking work with small pieces of fabric.
Other satin ribbon flowers
In addition to roses, peonies and hyacinth look gorgeous from ribbons.
DIY ribbon peony
To create a lush bud you will need 3 types of petals of different sizes and approximately 18 such blanks. The cut edge must be burned with a lighter and wait until the petal bends. If you place the petals on top of each other at an angle, sewing them together, you will get a gorgeous peony.
Satin ribbon hyacinth
This flower is best made using the kanzashi technique - the Japanese art of creating fabric jewelry. Hyacinth is made from upside down petals.
Necessary materials:
- satin ribbon squares,
- manicure tweezers,
- lighter or matches,
- scissors,
- needle and thread.
Manufacturing technique:
- Fold the square of fabric in half (at the corners).
- Repeat the first step 2 more times, forming a narrow petal.
- Trim the base of the petal a little.
- Grab the base with tweezers and singe, soldering both edges of the petal.
- Unscrew the petal and repeat the previous steps.
- Tighten the finished petals with a needle and thread and secure firmly.
How to handle a wedding bouquet: basic rules
The most fragile are bouquets of fresh flowers. Before you assemble the bride’s bouquet with your own hands, ask what exactly the flowers you choose like or don’t like. You may want to replace them with more resistant varieties.
Everyone knows that fresh flowers do not like heat. However, it is not always possible to keep them cold. In order for your bouquet to survive until the end of the celebration, you must follow some rules.
- Flowers can be freshened with a spray bottle or placed in a vase with water at times when they are not needed.
- Do not place the bouquet on a horizontal surface. It's better to ask your girlfriends to hold him.
- It is not advisable to press living flowers to yourself and injure the buds in any way. By the way, brides especially often forget about this point during photo shoots.
- It is generally better to hold flowers on stems as little as possible in your hands and place them in water whenever possible.
- Flowers made from jewelry should not be shaken too much. Of course, compared to fresh flowers, such a bouquet is stronger, but the decorations may fly off under their own weight.
These simple rules will help you avoid minor troubles that could ruin your holiday.
Bouquet on your wedding day
The bride's bouquet is the second most important attribute of the wedding look after the dress. It is simply not customary to get married without it. In addition, he participates in many rituals at the wedding. The groom presents it to his future wife at the ransom, and she accepts the gift as a sign of consent. His girlfriend throws him at random to her girlfriends to determine which of them will marry after her.
Meaning of a rose
This flower has long been perceived as a symbol of love, tenderness, passion, perfection, and dreams. It is known in every corner of the world, but it is most admired by Europeans and Americans. Just as the lotus is revered in India, Europeans worship the rose.
People draw parallels with purity of soul, innocence, and childish naivety. Some see in its complex, chaotic, but ideal structure the principle of the creation of the world and the harmony of life.
The Romans considered these flowers to be protectors against excessive chatter. Roses were given to gossips, hinting at their long tongue. They decorated meeting rooms and palaces to maintain silence.
Today this plant is given when they want to say about their love, wish happiness and give joy. At a wedding, a bouquet of roses reflects the beauty and tenderness of the bride and acts as a symbol of her unity with her beloved. When you want to make a person’s life happy, it’s not for nothing that they say “line the path with roses.”
Flower varieties
Perhaps no plant has such a variety of shapes, sizes and shades as the rose. Today, breeders have developed many amazing flowers of this species.
In wedding floristry it is customary to traditionally use the following types:
- Classic cone-shaped rose. A flower familiar and familiar to everyone since childhood, which can be easily found in a flower shop or grown in your garden. Shades - from white to brown-wine. Now new fashionable colors nude and blue sky have been released.
- Peony or spherical rose. It is distinguished by an abundance of tightly fitting petals, forming peculiar balls. Shades - from cream and white to fuchsia and marsala.
- Mini rose (bush rose). A variation of many small buds on one branch. The color palette is very extensive.
Color spectrum
When it comes to choosing the shade of flowers for a wedding bouquet, many brides are simply lost, because all roses are gorgeous. However, the color of a living accessory should not only be combined with the dress, hairstyle and color scheme of the holiday, but also reflect the spiritual and personal qualities of the girl:
- White. They are identified with innocence, softness, meekness, that is, with feelings that are born in heaven, pure and slightly romanticized. Another meaning of color is youth. There is even a sign that if a white rose bush blooms in a family’s garden in the fall, then the guy or girl who lives there will meet their soul mate early.
- Pink. The color of romance, dreams and the first kiss. The color of tenderness and fragile attractiveness, softness and exceptional femininity. Pale shades take you to romantic distances, while bright crimson tones are associated with celebration and joy.
- Reds. The oldest symbol of ardent passion and eternal love. It personifies very real earthly feelings, irresistible attraction, complete immersion in a partner, sensuality at the peak of emotions. The more intense the color of the bud, the stronger the emotions. It is generally accepted that the red rose is the most famous symbol of sexuality.
- Orange and coral. They act as a symbol of gratitude, sincerity, openness, optimism, carelessness, faith in a bright future, and friendship.
- Peach. They talk about modesty, embarrassment, emotional excitement, charm, ease of communication, charm.
- Greenish, pistachio. This is a symbol of success, prosperity, prosperity, security.
- Lilac, with powdery tones. Romanticism, fashion, modernity, creativity.

Florist tips
A few recommendations can be very useful for newlyweds, because a wedding bouquet is not only an indispensable attribute of the celebration, but also an important detail of the photographs:
- If the wedding takes place in winter or involves a lot of activity, then it is better to collect a bouquet of scarlet roses. They are more durable.
- Roses should not exactly match the shade of lipstick or other details of the image. It’s optimal when they differ by a couple of tones.
- The main flowers are always located in the center of the composition.
- Don’t use more than three colors, otherwise there will be a mess, but you can safely play with shades of the same color.
- The flower arrangement should match the girl's hair color. Blondes need to choose white, pink, pastel, creamy, lilac inflorescences. Brunettes will suit bright, juicy shades: red, pink, scarlet, yellow, coral. Red-haired ladies should give preference to purple, cream, tea, lemon-white buds.
- Half-opened flowers are suitable for young brides, and fully opened inflorescences are suitable for mature ladies.
- For the bouquet, only fresh, strong and dense flowers are taken.
- During the wedding, the bouquet should be sprayed, periodically trimmed and placed to rest in cold water. Then he will live longer.
