Childhood and youth
Anna Olegovna Matison was born in Irkutsk in July 1983. The unusual surname raises questions among fans and ill-wishers who are interested in who the director is by nationality. There is a popular theory on the Internet that Anna Matison has Jewish and Ukrainian roots, but the director has not officially commented on this information.
Anna has two brothers: the elder Timofey and the younger Leonid. Her mother Olga Matison is a famous Irkutsk journalist. Anna Matison as a child
In 2004, Anna, together with director and producer Yuri Dorokhin, founded her own production studio REC.production, which creates commercial videos, audio and video advertising. Mathison became the main producer and then the director of the television company. And this was without interruption from her studies at the international faculty of Irkutsk State University, where Anna acquired knowledge in the specialty “Commerce”.
Mathison is a creative person; she was constrained by the confines of commercial advertising. Already from the first videos of the production studio, it became clear that Anna wanted to make films rather than advertising. Unfortunately, this was impossible in Irkutsk due to the lack of technical base. That is why in 2008 her fate took a sharp turn: the young producer moved to the capital and entered the workshop of Natalya Ryazantseva at the screenwriting department of VGIK, from which she graduated in 2013 with honors.

Movies
Anna's cinematic biography began in Moscow immediately after moving from Irkutsk in 2008. Matison made her directorial and screenwriting debut in feature films with the short film “The Mood Has Improved,” based on the work of the same name by Evgeniy Grishkovets.
Grishkovets became interested in the film and its creators and offered Anna Matison cooperation, which later resulted in the creation of the full-length film “Satisfaction.” The script was co-written by the writer himself, who starred in the title role. The film was released in wide release and participated in the program of the Kinotavr, Moscow Premiere and other festivals.
This was followed by other joint works by Matison and Grishkovets: the documentary series “Without a Script” and a number of music videos. The audio play “Rivers” occupies a special place in their work.
Simultaneously with working on the works of Grishkovets, Matison managed to write scripts for popular films in the “Yolki” franchise. And in 2013–2014, the future wife of Sergei Bezrukov and her team made a musical film for children, “The Great Adventures of Little Sashka Krapivkin.”

Anna Matison and Sergei Bezrukov
Another significant layer of Anna Matison’s creative biography is her work as a documentary director. In 2011, Channel One aired a full-length documentary film “Musician” about pianist Denis Matsuev.
The premiere of the film "Milky Way", written and directed by Mathieson, took place in early 2021. The main roles in the comedy were played by Sergei Bezrukov and Marina Alexandrova. Critics spoke negatively about the film's script. According to their reviews, the plot did not develop, the characters grabbed hold of script ideas, but did not move, and the ending remained unfinished.
The very next film, the drama “After You,” was warmly received by viewers and critics. The main character, a choreographer and former dancer, was played by Bezrukov in the film. In an interview, the director noted that it was Sergei who managed to convince her during the auditions of his incredible plasticity. In addition, she knew that during his studies the artist was known as the best student in the choreography class. On the recommendation of professionals, the “Brigade” star filmed the dance scenes without a stunt double.
The director chose Sergei Dovlatov’s work “The Reserve” for her next work because of her long-standing love for the writer’s prose. According to Anna, she grew up reading Sergei Donatovich’s books, and filming his most cinematic story became her dream. The writer's relatives also approved the script. The image of the central character was changed, but the picture only benefited from this. Sergei Bezrukov again starred in the leading role.
Children of Anna Matison
Anna Matison's children are few; she has only a little daughter. The baby’s father is her beloved husband, Sergei Bezrukov.
Anna accepted as her own the children of Bezrukov, whom his mistress Kristina Smirnova gave birth to. Sasha and Vanechka very often visit their father and perceive Anya as a friend, and not as an evil stepmother. By the way, Sergei introduced Anna to the children long before marriage.
Matison desperately wanted her baby, because although she loved Alexandra and Ivan, these were not her natural children. Pregnancy didn't take long to arrive.
Theater
After moving to Moscow, Anna was interested in all manifestations of directing skills. In 2009, she was invited to the School of Contemporary Play to work on the play “Home”. Later, together with Evgeniy Grishkovets, she wrote the play “Weekend” (“End of the Week”), which was shown on the stage of the Anton Chekhov Moscow Art Theater.

Then the opera films “Lefty”, “Semyon Kotko” and “The Trojans” appeared in Matison’s repertoire.
Anna Olegovna’s debut on the stage of the opera house was the production of Nikolai Rimsky-Korsakov’s iconic work “The Golden Cockerel”. The director not only handled the mise-en-scène of the performance, but also took responsibility for the artistic component of the process.
