The main drinker in our cinema. How Alexander Bashirov lives in real life

Childhood and youth

The artist was born in September 1955 in the taiga wilderness - in the village of Sogom near Khanty-Mansiysk. He grew up in an incomplete and dysfunctional family, far from cinema and any other form of art. The parents divorced immediately after the birth of their son. The mother is Tatar by nationality and raised the boy alone. Alexander’s father, a representative of the Khanty Nikolai Bashirov, did not participate in raising his son.

The only adult man in the house was the grandfather - a one-armed invalid and anti-Soviet, according to Alexander Bashirov, who did not want to work for the new government due to “fundamental political differences in views.” There was only one activity that my grandfather was repulsed by: fishing. Therefore, the only breadwinner was his mother, who worked at the post office until old age.

Alexander Bashirov says that in his childhood and adolescence he discovered two passions - smoking and drawing. Bashirov became addicted to smoking in the 3rd grade “for company.”

Alexander Bashirov in his youth
Alexander left his native land in his youth, after which he went to Leningrad, where he entered a vocational school to become a tiler. After graduation, the future actor got a job at a cement plant in Vyborg, where he worked until he was drafted into the army in 1981.

Bashirov served in Transbaikalia, in a tank division. His passion for drawing influenced his service: the artist was assigned to the army club. In the author’s program “Visiting Dmitry Gordon,” Bashirov said that in his second year of service, the graphic designer was given the task of drawing General Secretary of the CPSU Central Committee Leonid Brezhnev in a tank helmet. The artist completed the honorable mission on time, but as soon as the portrait was hung on the façade of the club, the leader died.

When asked who gave Bashirov his acting genes, in an interview the actor humorously answered that “it’s all about my eternal and unsatisfied desire to rule over people,” inherited from my ancestor Khan from the Golden Horde.

Alexander Bashirov in his youth
Be that as it may, but 2 years after demobilization, Alexander Bashirov entered the directing department of VGIK and ended up in Igor Talankin’s group. Under his leadership, the 30-year-old student studied for 2 years and transferred to the course of Anatoly Vasilyev. The reason for the transfer was Bashirov’s shocking prank.

At student sketches, where future directors presented scenes from dramatic works, Alexander played Satan, who appeared before Faust. “In the reading” of Bashirov, the lord of darkness came on stage in a robe, under which there was no other clothing. Once in the center, Satan was unmasked. Sergei Bondarchuk, Irina Skobtseva, Inna Makarova were sitting in the hall. A huge scandal followed and a transfer to a group with another mentor.

After graduating from VGIK, Alexander and his American wife moved to New York, studied for a year at the Berghof Studio of Lawrence Arancio, where Al Pacino, Liza Minnelli and Robert De Niro came from.

Personal life

During his student years, Alexander Bashirov married an American and went with his wife to her homeland. The marriage produced a son, Christopher, with whom the artist maintains a relationship after returning to Russia. But the actor returned home alone: he divorced his wife due to divergent views on life and differences in characters.

Over time, Bashirov's personal life improved. He is married to the lead singer of the musical group “Kolibri” Inna Volkova, with whom he is raising his daughter Alexandra-Maria. There is no information about the artist’s other children on the Internet.

In my husband’s project “Zh.P.O.” Volkova played a singer from a bar and wrote the song “Not a Hero” for the film.

The reason for many of the actor’s shocking antics is said to be his eccentric character and alcoholism. So, in June 2011, the tabloids relished the news about Bashirov’s drunkenness, or rather, about its consequences - “creeping” along the star path of “Kinotavr”. Alexander was indeed intoxicated, but crawled along the path to cheer up those present and disrupt the decorum of the event, declaring that “fools can do anything.”

At the same time, the artist assures that his health has not failed him yet, except that with a hangover it can be difficult to get into work. But in this case, he always has the necessary medicines with him.

Bashirov does not have an official page on Instagram, but on VKontakte his fans have created a group dedicated to their favorite artist, and publish there photos and videos with Alexander’s participation, and also discuss films in which the man starred. Many note that over the years the actor has managed to maintain a slender figure - with a height of 172 cm, his weight is 70 kg.

Whether there are tattoos on the artist’s body is a big mystery; in the film “The Country of OZ” he appears with a design in the form of a church with three domes on his chest, but most likely this is not a real tattoo, but it was made to emphasize the image of the hero in a particular picture .

One day, rumors appeared on the Internet that Alexander Bashirov had died, but they quickly disappeared. The actor is alive, in good health and has no plans to end his acting career yet.

Two foreign wives

Despite all his antics, Alexander Bashirov does not particularly advertise his personal life. Little is known about his wives, although there were three of them. The actor met his first wife in his first years at VGIK. He and Maria Zensken studied in the same group. For each of them, this was their first love, which ended in marriage.

However, inexperience and the speed of making a decision about marriage took their toll. The relationship between Alexander and Maria did not last long. A few months later they announced their divorce.

Bashirov's next wife was American Sarah Wendy Newton. She was also a student at VGIK and one day her paths crossed with Alexander. This acquaintance grew into a serious relationship that ended in marriage. After the wedding, which took place in 1990, the couple moved to live in America. There they had a son, who was named Christopher.

If family life was more or less successful, Bashirov’s career did not develop at all. Moreover, he more than once regretted leaving Russia. The American mentality was alien to him. On this basis, he began to have quarrels with his wife. Soon he decided to get a divorce and return back to Russia.

Movies

The acting biography of Alexander Bashirov begins with an episodic role in the drama by Sergei Solovyov “Alien White and Pockmarked”. The image of Chudik turned out to be ambiguous, but the artist liked the beginning. In 1986, the film represented the USSR at the Oscar film awards and received a special prize at the Venice Film Festival.

The following year, the cult film “Assa” was released, where viewers recognized the actor as the eccentric false Air Force major Shurik Babakin. The speech about Yuri Gagarin, delivered by Babakin, was an improvisation by the artist.

In 1988, television viewers saw the premiere of Rashid Nugmanov’s thriller “The Needle,” in which Viktor Tsoi played the key role. Alexander Bashirov played Spartak, a small but dangerous man. The role made the actor recognizable, but the negative role “stuck” to him for a long time, and directors invited Bashirov to play similar roles. The dramatic action-packed film became the box office leader.

Based on Deboshirfilm, he organized a festival of the same name, which is held twice a year in St. Petersburg and today remains the largest event in the field of independent Russian cinema.

In 1998, Bashirov’s film was released with the provocative title “Zh.P.O.” (“The iron heel of the oligarchy”). The film made a splash in Russian cinema in the late 1990s. Alexander Nikolaevich was noted in four guises - screenwriter, producer, director and actor. Due to the low budget, the film was shot for $25 thousand, but the film won several cinematic prizes.

In the new century, Alexander Bashirov found himself among the most sought-after Russian actors, although he did not have major roles to his credit. TV viewers saw him in the bright, although not the main roles of the sharper Lekha Shustrov in “Penal Battalion”, the safecracker in the series “Balzac’s Age, or All Men Are Theirs...”, Khanenko in “Hunting on the Asphalt”, General Kornilov in “The Death of the Empire” and Mishani in the comedy "Mom, Don't Cry - 2".

In 2005, Bashirov starred in ten projects. The most striking are “9th Company”, “Queen of the Gas Station - 2”, “Zhmurki” and “Vepr”. The image of the cat Behemoth in Vladimir Bortko’s mystical project “The Master and Margarita” turned out to be a real diamond in the artist’s filmography.

Alexander Bashirov now

Although over the years, as an actor, Bashirov appears less and less in new films, he is not going to stop his career. Alexander Nikolaevich is still acting, delighting fans with new works. In mid-April 2021, the 8-episode film “Zuleikha Opens Her Eyes” was released, where Bashirov played one of the main roles, appearing in the image of a tramp, a prison man.

The plot takes viewers back to 1930 into the family of a Tatar peasant woman whose husband was killed, and she, along with other dispossessed kulak people, was sent along a convict route to Siberia. Even in these difficult conditions, she proudly goes through many tests, while remaining a real woman, capable of loving and forgiving.

Carier start

Alexander Bashirov's career began at the directing department of VGIK. The environment played a big role in the development of the actor’s career: at the institute, Alexander met Fyodor Bondarchuk, was introduced to Viktor Tsoi - this is how the future actor got into the rocker party of St. Petersburg. Thanks to valuable contacts, already a graduate of the institute, Alexander played roles in four films, including the famous dramas “Igla” and “Assa”.
