Matvey was born on August 12, 1988 in Ufa. Zubalevich has two sisters, and one of them, Nina, is his twin, the second is slightly older. As a child, Zubalevich was an athletic child - from the age of seven he was engaged in martial arts, running, and skiing.

The mother of three children, who worked as an accountant, had a hard time, so Matvey quickly grew up, got used to independence and learned to take care of himself and his loved ones: at the age of 14 he worked part-time at a car wash, at 16 he distributed advertising leaflets.

The beginning of an acting career
After graduating from college, Zubalevich realized that he was much more interested in the stage and art.
He, like every young artist, dreamed of entering the capital’s theater university and set his sights on the Shchukin School: he successfully passed the preliminary audition and was preparing for admission together with Professor Mikhail Semakov. A problem prevented him from enrolling: before the exams, he decided to work as a waiter on the Moscow-Kyiv train and was simply late for the entrance exams. In 2006, Zubalevich became one of the participants in the project “You are a movie star!” on the MTV Russia channel. The essence of the reality show was for ordinary guys and girls to take part in the filming of a real movie without any special preparation. Zubalevich showed his best performance and reached the final. The main award was the role of Micah in the comedy “Bold Days.”

After this, his career stagnated, which lasted about two years. Matvey worked as a waiter, lived in a hostel, earned three thousand a month, but over the phone he assured his mother that he was doing well, that he had been accepted into Karen Shakhnazarov’s new project and that his career would soon take off.
At one of the castings, he was noticed by the Italian teacher Andrea Calbucci, who saw in Matvey a resemblance to his famous fellow countryman (Matvey himself doesn’t remember which one) and undertook to prepare the young actor for free for the TV series “Angels of War,” which was released only in 2012 year.

Bright roles
Matvey Zubalevich was able to play love in the military drama “Angels of War”. His hero was a policeman who betrays his homeland during the Great Patriotic War. However, his character's image was not strictly negative. Matvey's hero encourages viewers to think about many things, to stop dividing everything into black and white.
The adventure drama “Ship” was a success, in which the actor played the role of one of the cadets. Then the drama “Molodezhka” came out, thanks to which Zubalevich was overwhelmed by another wave of people’s love. He played Alexei Smirnov, who goes by the nickname “Smirny”. In 2011, Matvey received his first leading role - in the series “Physics and Chemistry” about the life of students in grade 10B, Zubalevich played the athlete Yuri, in love with Kira Kovaleva (Lilia Razakova). Soon the viewer was able to appreciate Matvey’s acting talent in the series “Closed School,” in which Zubalevich played one of the main characters, Anatoly (actor Alexander Nikitin) in his youth.
In 2012, Matvey starred in the military melodrama “Angels of War” by Ukrainian director Tatiana Khodakovskaya, which received many awards at various domestic and foreign festivals. Other prominent roles this year were supporting roles in the melodrama “Time to Love” and the serial action film “Delta”. In 2013, the actor got the main role in Artem Nasybulin’s melodrama “Once and Forever,” which was released at the end of 2015.

In the post-apocalyptic saga about the only survivors on the planet, Zubalevich played one of the young cadets who went on a training voyage on the ship Running on the Waves. Matvey Zubalevich played the role of professional boxer Vyacheslav Kuznetsov, who accidentally fatally injured his opponent in the ring and his own friend Grigory Shamanov during the fight for the championship title. In the same year, Matvey played the main role in the Ukrainian crime series “Team”. The actor played the role of police captain Andrei Kravets, who is so devoted to operational work that the hero’s wife cannot stand the constant absence of her husband and files for divorce.
The actor also played the role of Kostya Smirnov, a friend of the main character, in the Ukrainian social drama “Favorite Teacher” and the role of Gonza in the youth art house “Psychos”, dedicated to the transformation of an informal get-together into the Nazi movement.
