Samoilov was an excellent student, already managing to perform on the theater stage during his student years. It seemed that the actor was in a hurry to make up for lost time taken away by the terrible war.

Briefly about the main thing

Vladimir Samoilov was born on March 15, 1924 in the vicinity of the glorious city of Odessa (Egorovka village) in the family of a marine mechanic. None of the closest relatives were seen on the theater stage. After some time, the family moved to Odessa, where Volodya graduated from school at the beginning of the war. Having received a certificate, he went to the front, and upon returning in 1945, he entered the Odessa theater university. Already during his studies, he took part in performances of the local theater of the Soviet Army. After receiving his diploma, he continued to play here for about 3 years.

This was followed by a move to Kemerovo, and later to Gorky, where the actor Samoilov joined the troupe of the Gorky Regional Theater and served in it until 1968. By the way, in the same theater Vladimir met his future wife, who was the leading actress of the troupe.

Having received a diploma from a theater university, Vladimir Yakovlevich performed on the stage of the Odessa Theater of the Soviet Army for 3 years. Then the actor changed several more scenes, moving from Odessa to Kemerovo, and from Kemerovo to Gorky. Samoilov worked at the Gorky Regional Theater until 1968. The actor traveled with the troupe throughout the Soviet Union. Theatergoers remember that the performances of Gorky’s artists were invariably sold out, and the credit for this largely belonged to Vladimir Yakovlevich.

The debut turned out to be successful, and soon the Odessa resident starred in the feature films “On Tomorrow Street”, “Believe me, people”, “The very first” and “Twenty-six Baku commissars”. All of these films were warmly received by the audience and brought Samoilov popularity. Proof of the high skill of the Odessa resident was the awarding of the title People's Artist of the RSFSR to the actor in 1966.

As if to confirm the high award, Vladimir Yakovlevich appeared in a comedy that instantly won the hearts of viewers across a huge country. This is the iconic painting “Wedding in Malinovka”. Samoilov got one of the main roles, and the actor turned into a star of Soviet cinema.

It is difficult to list all the best works of the actor in theater and cinema. After all, these are four hundred titles, most of which are popular and sensational plays and films. Among the latter, the films “The Prize”, “Shadows Disappear at Noon”, “Fathers and Sons”, “Days of the Turbins” and “White Snow of Russia” stand out as the most striking and beloved by the audience.

The incredible performance of this man was amazing. He acted and acted until a very old age. Even in the difficult 90s, Samoilov was in demand. Among the best films of the last decade of the artist’s life are the films “A Visit to the Minotaur,” where he played a prosecutor, and “Sons of Bitches” by Leonid Filatov, where Samoilov appeared as a theater director.

The artist performed best when impersonating authoritative military or police officials. In "Air Pirates" and "Grey Wolves" Vladimir Samoilov played generals. In the detective film “The Price of a Head,” a film adaptation of the famous novels by Georges Simenon, Vladimir Yakovlevich played the main role of Commissioner Maigret.

In military roles, the actor also appeared in the films “The Adventures of Count Nevzorov”, “Shot in the Back”, “Front Behind the Front Line”, “Soldiers of Freedom” and others.

At the same time, the actor appeared in both positive and negative roles, authentically portraying criminals, spies and other dark personalities. In the action movie “... Nicknamed “The Beast””, the actor played the role of a crime boss nicknamed “Korean”, and in the film “Investigation” - the criminal Vorobyov.

Personal life

While serving at the Gorky Regional Theater, Vladimir Samoilov's personal life changed. On this stage he met his future wife. Nadezhda Samoilova not only shone on this stage - she was a leading actress. But when her husband’s career rapidly took off and he was called to the capital, the wife, without hesitation, followed her husband.

Unlike Vladimir Samoilov, her career in Moscow somehow did not work out. But the artist never heard a single reproach from his beloved half, although he himself felt guilty and often asked Nadezhda’s forgiveness for his ruined career.

Vladimir Samoilov's wife was called his guardian angel. This woman was his only love for the rest of his life. She understood her husband perfectly and always supported him, trying to stay in the shadows and providing a warm home. In this marriage, a son, Alexander Samoilov, was born.

Subsequently, the son followed in the footsteps of his parents and also became an actor. Alexander Samoilov plays in the Moscow Academic Art Theater named after Maxim Gorky; before that, the actor was in the troupes of the Moscow Art Theater named after Ostrovsky and the Moscow Art Theater named after Vladimir Mayakovsky.

Death

The life of Vladimir Samoilov ended symbolically - on the theater stage. Death overtook Vladimir Samoilov on September 8, 1999, when the actor was rehearsing his last role in the production of King Lear.

Fans of the artist considered acting work to be the cause of Samoilov’s death. Unlike his colleagues, Vladimir Samoilov remained popular even after the collapse of the USSR. The actor was torn between the theater stage and the film set. During this period, Vladimir Yakovlevich simultaneously rehearsed the main role - King Lear - in the production and starred in the film “Nuclear Zone Ranger”. The heart of the no longer young actor simply could not withstand such constant stress.

Vladimir Yakovlevich was buried at the Vagankovskoye cemetery. In the same year, his faithful half Nadezhda Samoilova also passed away. They could not exist without each other and left together after more than 50 years of marriage.

After the actor’s death, two more films were released in which Vladimir Samoilov played. In 1999, "Nuclear Zone Ranger" was shown. In this film, Vladimir Yakovlevich played the role of Father Alexei Barsuk.

In 2000, the Russian-British film “Repete” was released, in which the actor played the role of Alexei Zykov. The melodrama takes place in Paris, where Alexey Zykov went into exile. This role was among the main characters of this biographical film, which is dedicated to the destroyed autobiographical story of the writer and the personal drama of Zykov.

King Lear died without ever being born on stage...

But even then there were memorable roles. In the duology “Earthly Love” and “Fate” by Evgeny Matveev, he played the role of Anisimov, and he was in demand in post-Soviet Russian cinema. You can recall such films as “Gray Wolves”, “Boulevard Romance” and others.

In 1999, Vladimir Samoilov was once again “torn” between cinema and theater. The film “Nuclear Zone Ranger” was being filmed in the cinema, and in the theater the actor was rehearsing the role of King Lear. On September 8, 1999, his heart could not stand it...

And I would like to end with a small remark. Some people mistakenly believe that actress Tatyana Samoilova is the daughter of Vladimir Yakovlevich. This is wrong. As I already said, he has a son who is very similar to his father and plays the same courageous heroes. And Tatyana is the daughter of another actor - Evgeny Samoilov. Namesakes, but what talented people!
