Igor Krutoy: biography, family, early years
The future composer and producer was born in the small Ukrainian town of Gaivoron, in the Kirovograd region, in 1954, on July 29, and was the eldest of two children in a simple Soviet family with Jewish roots that had nothing to do with art.
The head of the family worked at the plant, my mother worked at the sanitary-epidemiological station as a laboratory assistant. In 1959, the family welcomed the youngest child, daughter Alla, who later became a popular TV presenter and now lives in the United States.

Igor grew up as a creative child; from childhood he was drawn to music. He independently mastered the accordion and performed with great enthusiasm in the school ensemble. In parallel with the regular secondary school, the boy also attended music school.
After receiving the certificate, he became a student at the Kirovograd Music College, and graduated from there in 1974 with honors.
After this, the young man attempted to enter the prestigious Kyiv Conservatory, but failed the entrance exams. Then he got a job as a music teacher in a rural school, where he worked for one year.

Wanting to get a higher education, Krutoy entered the conducting and choral department of the Nikolaev Pedagogical Institute. At the same time, the musician began to earn extra money, performing in restaurants. There he soon met the aspiring performer Alexander Serov, with whom he began to collaborate.
Later, the young composer entered the Saratov Music Conservatory, but after studying there for about a year, he left this educational institution.
He decided to focus on work, and in the late 70s he received an invitation from the Moscow Concert Orchestra “Panorama”. True, at that time Igor Yakovlevich could not yet boast of a high income.

Igor Krutoy and Elena Butoma: a love story
The aspiring musician met his future first wife, a spectacular brunette named Elena Butoma, in 1979, in the Northern capital, when he came there on tour.
The girl was a native of Leningrad, and came from a fairly famous and wealthy family. Her grandfather was Boris Evstafievich Butoma, a major Soviet state and party figure, Hero of Socialist Labor, as well as a laureate of the Lenin and Stalin Prizes, who served as Minister of the Shipbuilding Industry of the Soviet Union.
Mutual romantic feelings arose between the young people, and the relationship developed so rapidly that already on the third date, the inspired man made an official marriage proposal to his beloved. The girl immediately agreed, and the couple began planning the wedding.

First, they had to meet their parents. Igor Yakovlevich took the bride to his homeland to introduce his chosen one to his mother and father and receive their blessing for marriage.
The musician’s sister, Alla Yakovlevna, recalled that her parents didn’t like Elena right away. She was too spoiled, wayward, and besides, she had bad habits, which she was not ashamed of, and did not even try to hide. For a conservative family with strict views, such behavior of a potential daughter-in-law was unacceptable and very provocative.

True, when submitting an application to the registry office, Igor Yakovlevich was in for a very unpleasant surprise. It turned out that the chosen one did not want to take his last name and preferred to keep her maiden name. The man was seriously hurt by this, but he did not insist and accepted her choice.
The celebration was held in the Northern capital, where the newlyweds lived for the first time. However, later they decided to move to Moscow, where Elena had her own apartment, and more prospects and career opportunities opened up for Igor.

In the early 80s, the musician was invited to work in Valentina Tolkunova’s ensemble, where he was first a pianist and later became a leader.
