Stories about friendship that mutated into love, dramedy about parents who see off their little princesses into adulthood, melodramas about relationships that were able to - we collected all this in the list of good films about weddings.
The top will become a relaxation for newlyweds who have already exchanged their romantic mood for eye tics and mild depression. It is also suitable for those who only dream of marriage and do not yet know that a wedding is not only fun and impeccable style, like on the posters of melodramas. Behind the scenes of a perfect holiday, tons of time, nerves and doubts remain: is the person on the other side of the wedding ring really worth it?
My Big Fat Greek Wedding (2001, Canada)

KinoPoisk:

IMDb:

Main characters:
lovers Toula (Nia Vardalos) and Ian (John Corbett (the perfect Aidan from Sex and the City)), father Kostas Portokalos (Michael Constantine)
The film is about how a sweet American girl with Greek roots and a large Greek family falls in love with a patient American with British manners and a perfect profile. Sarcasm oozes from this interethnic love story, like juicy pita sauce: Tula is not too fond of her family’s folk traditions, but her father has given an ultimatum - either the groom learns to be Greek, or there will be no wedding. And yet, with a huge amount of irony, the film manages to talk seriously about true love. Real - not in the sense of Cinderella or Snow White. The real thing is when the heroine, even in wedding makeup, doesn’t live up to the glossy photographs, when a pimple pops up on her wedding day, when a girl who grew up in traditional Greek cuisine tramples down 90-60-90.
And the main thing is when all this does not stop her man from laughing at her jokes and seeing beauty and sincere pleasure in life in all this large-scale Greek bustle.

best friends Emma (Anne Hathaway) and Liv (Kate Hudson)
Emma and Liv grew up together and shared all their dreams, sorrows and joys with each other. The idyll is destroyed when, by mistake, the girls' weddings are scheduled for the same day. To make matters worse, the celebrations were to be held in the same place - the Plaza Hotel - and each of the brides wanted to have their wedding there. Now what seemed to make Liv and Emma's friendship stronger and more secure turns into Godzilla and mercilessly destroys the friends' relationship: Emma's quiet nature spirals out of control, and Liv's self-confident alpha finds herself on the verge of a nervous breakdown. Either one of the girls will take off the white dress like a white flag, or both will lose a loved one on the happiest day of their lives.
The film is not only kind, romantic and funny, but also practically oriented: based on the script, you can make a decent list of how to beautifully and tastefully harm an arrogant colleague at work, your husband’s secretary or an ex-girlfriend.

An excellent comedy about typical American women dreaming of a perfect wedding. In the film you will see everything that brides in the USA dream about: Vera Wang dresses, the treasured little blue box with Tiffany & Co. decoration. and the only free day in June at the Plaza Hotel when you can hold a ceremony. Keep in mind that he plays a huge role not only in this film, but also in life.

parents Claude (Christian Clavier) and Marie (Chantal Lobi), youngest daughter Laure (Elodie Fontan)
Claude and Marie Vernier are a lovely couple of lovely French Catholics from a lovely mansion. The couple have four lovely French daughters, each of whom has made the lovely life of their parents a little less French and a little less charming. The first one married an Arab - I had to get used to lamb. The second brought a Jew into the house; the Arab Muslim was not happy. The third chose a Chinese as her husband - Peking duck may be better than halal lamb, but now the Arab and the Jew are pestering not only each other, but also the thin Confucian. When Claude and Marie began to run out of racist jokes and strong French nerves, the fourth daughter announced that she was also getting married. For an African from Ivory Coast. The next son-in-law is almost French and even Catholic, but the faces of Marie and Clado do not become any friendlier.
There are really a lot of jokes in the comedy, for which the filmmakers would now be split into atoms. But if you look a little deeper, this film is not about racial stereotypes and discrimination, but about family values, which in no way depend on skin color and religion.

Main characters:
sisters Rachel (Rosemary Dewitt) and Kim (Anne Hathaway)
Weddings are, of course, fun, but it’s not for nothing that they are compared to funerals - sometimes films about weddings do not cause laughter and pleasant nostalgia. This movie is just that: pure drama, in which the wedding is just a beautiful backdrop for a family tragedy.
The main character here is not Rachel's fiancée, but her sister, Kim, a drug addict. A girl returns from rehab to a family reunion, and if this were a rom-com, Kim would ruin her sister's dress, drop her cake, hurt her overly sensitive groom's feelings, or set the wedding bouquet on fire. But instead, the viewer spends almost the entire duration observing an unhealthy atmosphere in the house, where all relatives are lit fuses leading to one powder keg. Rachel has been harboring a grudge against her youngest all her life - Kim has always been a walking problem and occupied all the attention of the family, and now she also came to the wedding, unhappy, crippled by life and unpredictable, as always. Kim herself also has something to blame her relatives for, and although the girl tries to control herself, sarcastic jabs also break out. And the conflict between two sisters is just powdered sugar; the filling of this conflict is much more terrible and tougher. And for the wedding to really become the beginning of something new and strong, a family with a sad history will have to finally express to each other everything that has been accumulating in their souls for years and did not allow them to live freely and happily.
Anne Hathaway received Oscar, Satellite and Golden Globe nominations for Best Actress, while Rosemary Dewitt won Best Supporting Actress for Satellite. The film itself was nominated for the Golden Lion at the Venice Film Festival.

Break away from reality: director's weddings
In one of the previous articles, we told you about conceptual weddings: about creating visual ideas, translating them into decor and all the subtleties that ultimately highlight your individuality. But if in the case of conceptual weddings, as a rule, more attention is paid to the external picture of the holiday, then in director’s weddings the approach to many details is much more global and the projects of the TOBELOVE wedding agency only confirm this opinion.
In the “Birds” wedding project, a non-trivial concept was followed throughout the entire wedding day: invitations in the form of a large porcelain egg that had to be broken to read the text of the invitation, a birdcage in the shape of a cube, personifying a window to a new life, and an outdoor ceremony was staged. Decorator: Maria Kamenskaya
Director's weddings are not just about decor. Such projects involve a huge number of professionals with a deep creative vision of the idea: designer, costume and lighting designer, director and even choreographer. The teamwork of these specialists allows you to use a cinematic approach to the holiday and create a real bright performance - something that no one has done before. Therefore, no matter how beautiful and large-scale the decor at your wedding is, it will not become the main highlight. But with the perfect choice and combination of colors, the design helps to recreate the desired picture and achieve the “wow” effect, when guests are literally mesmerized by what is happening around them. This can be a spectacular show based on a book or your favorite movie. This was a wedding based on the novel “The Master and Margarita”, the concept of which was based on the idea of magical transformations in the style of the Moscow 30s. The invitation to this wedding performance was the theatrical program, which allowed each guest to understand that he would find himself in historical time and find himself in the center of the events of Bulgakov’s novel.
Decor: Latte Decor
In addition to the scale and delight that director’s weddings evoke in the viewer, they have an undeniable feature - uniqueness. What you see in a director's wedding cannot be repeated. Each new wedding is a new story, which can be invented or based on real events that the newlyweds experienced and carried through the years of shared love. But only one thing is clear: no one has ever told this story. Accordingly, there can no longer be any talk of any plagiarism or copying of the wedding. The “Mysterious Forest” wedding, in which the theme of family union is revealed not through the prism of the major and light colors characteristic of a wedding celebration, but through the minor character of archetypal images, conquered not only future brides, but also the entire industry, receiving an award in the category “Best Russian Wedding Project” "at WEDDING AWARDS 2015.
Weddings are chosen by couples with special taste. First of all, these are people who value the author's point of view. And it doesn’t matter at all in what particular field: clothing, music or cinema. When it comes to a wedding, they not only want to surprise all the guests, but also each other. Director's weddings do not have memorized words and boring ceremonies. They have a plot and that’s why they are not always suitable for couples with conservative views on what their wedding should be like. Therefore, if the newlyweds are more inclined to classic looks, then a wedding with a concept will be ideal for them. It is worth noting that it is director’s weddings that most often become nominees and winners of the “Wedding of the Year” or “Event of the Year” awards. One of these weddings was a project called “The Birth of the Universe,” which marked the unification of a man and a woman, as the birth of a new union and a new Universe.
The couple imagined their wedding to be a grandiose and fantastic event, being ready for any experiment. Having seen the site, the organizers realized that the futuristic style and blue color that predominated in the design of the space was the backdrop for creating a space wedding. Stylized dances, acrobatic performances, the newlyweds flying up to the ceiling of the hall in a rotating sphere, and even a cake representing the planets of the solar system - all this was embodied in a mesmerizing wedding, similar to the own planet of two lovers.

Marat Basharov
The famous artist played in the film a simple village guy, Mishka Krapivin, who is in love with Tanya Simakova (Maria Mironova), who returns from Moscow to Lipki a few years later. It was after this role that the acting career of Marat Basharov began to take off, having previously appeared in “The Barber of Siberia” and “Voroshilovsky Shooter”.
It is noteworthy that Marat first auditioned for Garkusha, a drunkard and hooligan. But after re-reading the script, I realized that I wanted to play Mishka. The director was skeptical about this idea, but after a while he agreed. And I was right. The actor got so accustomed to his movie character that it was impossible not to believe him. As a result, choosing between him and another artist, Lungin made a choice in favor of Marat.
At the moment, Basharov’s track record includes more than 80 roles in films such as “72 Meters”, “Yulenka”, Moving Up”, and so on. In 2006, he took part in the “Stars on Ice” project together with Olympic champion Tatyana Navka and won.
But recently, Marat has increasingly begun to appear in scandalous chronicles. It became known that in 2014 he beat his wife Ekaterina Arkharova and she was admitted to the hospital with numerous bruises and a broken nose. After some time they separated.
In 2021, Basharov married Elizaveta Shevyrkova. And it turned out that the situation with domestic violence was repeated. It was reported that Marat, in a fit of rage, attacked his wife and broke her nose. The couple divorced in March 2021.

Poor Emily: she was losing weight for the wedding, looking for the right makeup style, wasting time on a dress, trying cakes, pricking herself on decorative roses, ordering a “Just Married” sign... and all in vain, because shortly before the main day in Emily’s life, the whole city found out that she fiance Howard Brackett is gay. The most surprised person was not his parents, colleagues or the local priest, but Howard himself. The fact is that one of the man’s students, the famous actor Cameron, while receiving an Oscar, gave a touching acceptance speech, which very harmoniously included words about the schoolteacher’s homosexuality. But all this TV drama didn’t fit into the lives of Emily and Howard at all: the town is small, everyone knows the kind Mr. Brackett well, and now those around them are obsessed with gay people. Style, manners, speech, lifestyle - neighbors and family members begin to explain all this differently.
A love story turns into a story about public bullying and the best teacher in the world, ready to do anything for the sake of his students. Does anyone remember about poor Emily?

The plot of the film "Wedding"
The script for the film “The Wedding” by Isidor Annensky was based on a number of works by Anton Pavlovich Chekhov: the vaudeville show of the same name, the stories “Wedding with the General” and “Before the Wedding,” the novel “Marriage of Convenience,” and the sketch “The Groom and Dad.” Subsequently, in his book of memoirs, Anensky wrote that when writing the script, he tried not to take liberties - only literal Chekhov. Already during the creation of the film, as in any creative process, some phrases arose that only embellished the film and made it even more memorable.
The plot of the film revolves around the marriage of a certain middle-ranking official Epaminondas Maksimovich Aplombov. All summer he looked after Dasha, the daughter of the tradesman Zhigalov. However, due to the capriciousness and arrogance of the groom himself, the matter never came to a wedding. In the end, he still proposed, but set the condition that the general must be at the wedding. So to speak, for status. Their family friend Nyunin promised to help the Zhigalovs with this, who married his uncle, a retired captain of the 2nd rank, to the general, and also earned money.
What follows is the celebration itself, which defies conventional description. This brilliant, unique satire is simply meant to be watched and enjoyed. During the celebration, it turns out that the general is not a general at all, which leads to a scandal. And then the groom begins to doubt the price of the dowry...
Annensky's film is a satire on bourgeois society performed by the stars of Russian cinema.
The creation of the film “The Wedding” took place during the last years of the Great Patriotic War. The filming took place within the Tbilisi Film Studio, but it took place in Moscow, and specifically in house No. 3 (building 2) in Likhov Lane. This two-story ancient building in those years belonged to the Central Documentary Film Studio. Since the documentarians worked during the day preparing the next issues of the Chronicle, filming took place at night. The conditions were terrible: cold, drafts... Street scenes were filmed during the day. Although the front had already moved away from Moscow, signs of war remained, so sometimes in the frame you can see windows taped crosswise.
The young director Isidor Annensky managed to assemble a truly unique, star-studded cast in his film. Their skill, coupled with the genius of Anton Pavlovich Chekhov, made it possible to give birth to a real work of cinematic art. The film mercilessly castigates the philistinism with its hopeless complacency, stupidity and greed. The audience is presented with a panopticon of bright, grotesque, exaggeratedly caustic images, among which there is not a single positive one!
The main character is a middle-ranking official Epaminond Maksimovich Aplombov. The outstanding master of Russian cinema, Erast Garin, created the image of a small man with boundless self-esteem. Hence the sonorous surname of the character. Throughout the entire film, Aplombov walks as if he had swallowed a stick, demonstrating pomposity, pomposity, arrogance and capriciousness. Give him a wife with a good dowry, a wedding - definitely with a general.
“I won’t allow myself to be deceived. I'm not some kind of subject. I am an animate noun. And I have my own genre in zhusha!” “I’m not some kind of Spinoza to make different pretzels with my feet! I am a positive person!” “Don’t talk your teeth into me, I won’t allow myself to be cheated on principle!”
Aplombov is matched by his fiancée Dashenka - an explosive mixture of provincial affectation and impenetrable stupidity. At the same time, the heroine herself is convinced of her own irresistibility. How wonderfully the wonderful actress with a tragic fate, Zoya Fedorova, managed to convey all this! There are bow lips, empty eyes, and a pouty look...
“More than anything in the world I love handsome men, apple pie and the name Roland!” “They want to show off their education and always talk about the incomprehensible!”
The great Faina Ranevskaya was transformed into Nastasya Timofeevna Zhigalova, Aplombov's future mother-in-law. The actress said in her memoirs that young Annensky was afraid of her, and therefore she painted her heroine as she saw fit. And in this she was a real master, because the actress had the ability to observe, notice interesting details, and used all this in her work. “I put on a dress, pulled my nose up, put on a wig and a hat and went out onto the set, wearing almost no makeup. It's all about the manner of speaking, listening, thinking. Walking and gesturing comes later. Annensky couldn’t tell me anything,” Ranevskaya wrote in her memoirs. Her Nastasya Timofeevna is a woman of limited intelligence, but she knows exactly what she wants in life, a leader in the family.
“And if, in your opinion, we come out uneducated, why do you come to us? Let’s go to our own educated people!” “You’re boring, uh, uh, boring!” “Girls just like marriage. And in a month you will fight. I experienced it myself, I know.” “Don’t poke the lobsters with a fork - this is for the general!”
Next to Nastasya Timofeevna is her husband Evdokim Zakharovich Zhigalov, played by Alexei Gribov, who loves to drink and passionately wants to get his daughter married as soon as possible.
“Mother, darling, listen, but with caution! She’s a pretentious woman, duplicitous and free-thinking!” “Why will your husband love you? For beauty? For character? For the emblem of feelings? No! He will love you for your dowry!”
And these are just the main characters! And what actors are in the supporting roles! Is it possible to imagine this film without the hilarious Greek pastry chef Dymba played by Osip Abdulov with his catchphrase “Greece has everything”? And the brilliant duet of Vera Maretskaya and Sergei Martinson, who played the midwife Zmeyukina and the telegraph operator Yatya, who looks after her! There is a passionate, heartbreaking romance with a guitar with a bow, and exclamations of “Give me atmospheres! Give me a storm!”, “Wave at me, wave!” With bright, sweeping strokes, Maretskaya and Martinson ridicule the bourgeois ideas about romance and beauty. And, of course, Mikhail Yanshin in the image of the enterprising Andrei Andreevich Nyunin, who makes money from his own uncle, and when everyone starts laughing at him, he simply betrays him.
Actually, this uncle, retired captain of the second rank Revunov-Karaulov, played by Nikolai Konovalov, is the only one who evokes sympathy in the film. An old man, lured into attending a wedding by deception, becomes a laughing stock for the guests there. Confused, he unsuccessfully calls out: “Man, get me out of here!” And around... Looking at these cackling types, I just want to paraphrase a famous quote from another famous film “Gentlemen of Fortune” and exclaim: “What disgusting faces!”
There are a lot of stars in the episodes. Here are Irina Murzaeva, Tatyana Peltzer, and one of the brightest episodic characters, an unnamed guest performed by Mikhail Pugovkin. It should be noted that Pugovkin has just returned from the front with a serious leg injury, but how he dances in the frame! The fact is that his whole role, strictly speaking, consisted of dancing. Young Pugovkin was simply happy to be in the company of such eminent actors that he forgot about the wound, about the pain, and was so fired up that he had to be stopped when they saw the blood coming out on his trousers from the disturbed wound. But, as soon as he changed the bandage, Pugovkin was in the frame again! Not only he alone, but the entire film crew worked with such enthusiasm.
The release of the comedy “The Wedding” was timed to coincide with the 40th anniversary of Chekhov’s death. Faina Ranevskaya, with her usual sarcasm, then remarked: “We can even make a holiday out of the anniversary of death.” The audience greeted the film very well, but the critics reacted to it very coolly. However, time has put everything in its place - Isidor Anensky’s film has rightfully entered the Golden Fund of Russian Cinema and to this day enjoys interest among viewers. Many phrases have become catchphrases - isn’t this a sign of popular love? For those who have not yet watched this masterpiece, I highly recommend it - watch it and enjoy it!

And the future husband of heartless Julia is a stuffy guy who pesters all the waitresses indiscriminately, and good boy Robbie simply cannot understand - where is the love here?
