A British sociologist is confident that Victoria Beckham moved her husband to the USA for the sake of her career as a fashion designer.

Stop, stop – there won’t be a banal story about a transfer from Manchester United that everyone knows by heart.

In the early 2000s, promising United midfielder David Beckham met a singer from the Spice Girls and became even more immersed in the world of glamor and flash photography. New hairstyles, painted nails, celebrities are the everyday life of a professional athlete in 2021, but 20 years ago they infuriated Alex Ferguson. As a result, a quarrel, a flying boot, and Beckham and his wife moved in with Florentino Perez.

Much more interesting is what happened next.

At 32, Beckham suddenly announced a transfer to America, to MLS, which was in the early stages of development. David did not hide that the reason for the transfer was non-football. But it turned out that Bex was going overseas not only to develop football, but also to help his wife’s career.

British professor of cultural studies and sociology Ellis Cashmore (studies the phenomenon of stars, has written several books about the Beckhams) said that Victoria lost a lot in popularity after leaving the Spice Girls in 2000. At first, fame was maintained due to her affair with David, but gradually her husband came to the fore. Victoria tried to revive her career as a fashion designer, but failed.

“The move to the US was a huge benefit for Victoria,” Cashmore writes for the BBC. – At the time of the move, Victoria’s best years were behind her. They treated her with distrust and even ridicule. In the USA, Victoria restarted her career: by 2011, sales of her clothing brand reached $12 million, and she was invited to fashion weeks around the world. None of this would have happened without moving to the USA.”

There is no factual evidence of Victoria’s participation in Bex’s move to MLS. But journalists close to the family write that at that time Victoria’s influence on David was very great. “Somehow Victoria initiated this move,” Cashmore writes. “And she triumphantly emerged from the crisis, her influence is great again. As for David, he also stepped up his influence, but he clearly missed football.”

Zinedine Zidane's housekeeper told the truth about his family

A year and a half ago, residents of the village of Poberezhye, Ivano-Frankivsk region, unanimously elected their fellow countrywoman Lesya Ivankiv as chairman of the village council. Before this, Lesya Stepanovna worked in Spain for ten years, eight of which as a housekeeper in the family of the legendary football player Zinedine Zidane. She still remembers that time with undisguised warmth.

Workers don’t snap back

Lesya Ivankiv did not go to Spain to work in October 2000 because of a good life. Her daughter became seriously ill, and it was almost impossible to earn the necessary amount for treatment within Ukraine at that time.

“They took us out on some illegal buses, it was very scary along the way,” recalls the migrant worker. – But as soon as we arrived in Spain, they began to shamelessly racketeer us, and it was our own Ukrainian guys. It happened more than once that our girls were handed over to brothels, and very few, as far as I know, managed to escape from there. Men also fell into slavery. Our guys, for example, were assigned to work picking oranges, and then their entire salary was taken away.

Not all migrant workers could withstand the difficulties that came their way. Many drank themselves to death; others, left homeless, were forced to spend the night in parks. Lesya Stepanovna, calling to her native Coast, always reassured her: they say that everything is wonderful with her, although at first it was not easy for her. In the end, she tuned herself into such a positive mood that everything really worked out. In addition, the Spaniards had great respect for hardworking and responsible Ukrainian women and tried to hire them whenever possible.

“At first I got a job as a governess in a family with a small child, but they paid very little,” says Lesya Ivankiv. “Then I found a job in a coastal restaurant near Barcelona. The owner, making sure that I was a good cook, eventually transferred me to the position of chef. In general, conditions in Spanish restaurants are ideal. They brought us only fresh food, and if there was even the slightest suspicion to the contrary, they threw it away without a second thought. When the restaurant closed in the evening, we left the kitchen spotlessly clean. There, workers never contradict the requirements of the owner and never snap back.

For a week I didn’t know who I worked for

Two years later, the Ukrainian decided to change jobs. She contacted a local employment agency, where she was offered several options to choose from. She chose a position as a housekeeper in a large, beautiful house located on the most prestigious street in Madrid and, moreover, not far from the Ukrainian embassy. At the same time, the woman had no idea who she was getting a job with. I learned the name of my owner only a week later, when I saw how strikingly he resembled the world famous football player Zinedine Zidane , whose photographs were hung on the walls of the house.

The first interview with her was conducted by Veronique, the wife of Zinedine Zidane , a beautiful woman who at one time sacrificed her career as a ballerina for her husband. The basic requirements were simple: know the language and be able to cook well. By that time, Lesya already spoke Spanish well, but since they spoke French Zinedine Zidane She also knew the local cuisine well - it was not in vain that she worked in the restaurant. But she still had to constantly improve - some dishes, for example Zinedine Zidane’s favorite pizza, she was taught to cook by Italian chefs specially invited for this purpose.

“In Zinedine Zidane’s , I quickly got used to the local diet,” says Lesya Stepanovna, “it is much healthier than ours.” the tastes of Zinedine Zidane and his family. In the morning we drank fresh orange juice, because oranges are the local treasure. We had breakfast with toast with butter, honey, and jam. For lunch there were mainly fish dishes, and for dinner there was a salad, which is considered a complete meal there; it is not customary to eat it as a snack with something heavy, like in our country.

According to Lesya Stepanovna, in the kitchen she used such household appliances, the names of which she had never even heard of at home. There was, for example, a special oven for cooking pizza, as well as special equipment for preparing paella and Zinedine Zidane - Italian pasta.

Look for a dad like him!

The Ukrainian woman earned decently – about two thousand euros a month. At the same time, she not only cooked and kept the house in order, but also helped take care of the children.

“The family didn’t hire a special nanny,” says Lesya. – Zinedine Zidane and Veronique raised their children themselves, sometimes with help from relatives. Unfortunately, I could not be with my own daughter, so I gave part of my maternal love to the children of Zinedine Zidane . With my youngest, Elias, we even learned Ukrainian poems. The eldest sons - Enzo, Luca and Theo - also knew a few words in Ukrainian.

The former housekeeper speaks with delight about Zinedine Zidane

“He is a very cultured and kind person, a wonderful son, husband and father. We still need to find a dad like him! Of course, he is incredibly busy with work, but he devotes all his free time entirely to his family. Once a month he always visits his parents in Marseille. Family is sacred to him.

Lesya Ivankiv was with the Zidans all the time, and not only in Madrid. She accompanied them on trips to visit their parents and on vacation to the island of Ibiza. I also celebrated all the holidays with this family. He says that other stars often came to visit the famous football player, for example the Beckham and Boris Becker and his wife Charlie. But Lesya has never seen journalists in eight years - Zinedine Zidane increased attention to his person.

“Zenedine and Veronique are surprisingly easy to communicate people,” says Lesya. “They treated me great.” Not once did I feel any disrespect on their part. On the contrary, the attitude was so warm that I felt like a member of the family.

It's good to visit…

According to Lesya Stepanovna, she was always sincerely sick and worried when Zinedine Zidane , although she never came to his matches. She also didn’t have a chance to meet Ukrainian stars in Spain. One day she asked Zinedine Zidane to get her Andrei Shevchenko's , and he complied with this request.

By the way, the woman gave many gifts from Zinedine Zidane to her native village. The entire Coast football team still wears the uniform ordered in France by the legendary football player. A ball with the autographs of Real Madrid players was also given as a gift, but it disappeared somewhere. But Lesya Stepanovna herself carefully keeps a keychain with the inscription “Zinedine Zidane” . He is always with her - he used to be on the keys in Spain, and now he is on the keys to the village council...

Unlike many migrant workers, Lesya Ivankiv had no desire to settle abroad forever. She returned home because she could no longer live away from her daughter. And when she arrived, she immediately ran for the position of village mayor. After what she saw in Spain, she wanted to start improving her native village, which, by the way, was heavily damaged by the flood in 2008.

At the same time, Lesya Stepanovna admits that she really misses Spain and still communicates with Zidane’s family. This year, she congratulated Zinedine Zidane on his birthday over the phone, and he, in turn, invited her to visit and even sent her a ticket. Maybe I would like to go, but the village head has no time for walks these days; after all, there is no end to work.

– Anyone who considers Zizou to be a weak-willed person is mistaken; he is simply modest. He always listens to me. But I can talk incessantly, and he perceives only what he considers necessary.

Footballers' wives: different temperaments of Zidane and Kluivert (+ PHOTO, VIDEO)

Euro-Football.Ru, as part of its regular column “ Football Players ' Wives,” continues the story about the wives and girlfriends of famous players.

This time we will have a story about the girlfriends of the Russian national team players, who left a diametrically opposite impression after their performance at Euro 2012. Footballers, of course, not girlfriends.

Let's start with Zinedine Zidane . Veronica Fernandez became the chosen one of one of the greatest football players of our time, Zinedine Zidane. She was born in Languedoc, but her family comes from Andalusia. From the age of seven, the girl dreamed of becoming a dance teacher, so she had one path - to the capital. But Paris did not live up to the hopes of the young provincial girl. “I was unable to adapt to metropolitan life, I urgently needed a change in climate, and I went to Cannes, where Rosella Hightower taught at the ballet school.”

There, in 1989, Veronica met Zinedine, a student at a local sports boarding school. On the day they met, the girl swapped shifts with a friend - she worked part-time in a supermarket. Friends dropped by to see her at work, among them was a handsome, shy guy. For some time, their paths diverged - Zizou went to Bordeaux, and Veronica went to her native place to “promote” classical ballet. “The story of our acquaintance with Yaz is ordinary. We were young students. We have a lot in common, we easily understand each other. Millions of people meet in the same way, fall in love and spend the rest of their lives together.” Two years later, Veronica moved to Ziz in Bordeaux, and on May 29, 1994, the couple got married. Zidane's family is Muslim, and in order to avoid disagreements on the religious issue, the marriage was formalized in the city mayor's office. By the way, all four sons of Zizou and Veronica received Catholic names. And yet, before meeting Zizou, Veronica didn’t like football, didn’t even know its rules.

In March 1995, the couple had their first child, named after the famous Uruguay national team player Enzo Francescoli. By the way, the three eldest are students of Real Madrid, and the eldest, sixteen-year-old Enzo Alan, nicknamed “Zidanino” by journalists, was brought in by Mourinho in September 2011 to work with the main team. He was also called up to the Spanish U15 national team, but the French still do not give up hope of luring the guy to their team. Moreover, Zizou said that he would not put pressure on his son in this matter. Luca and Theo play in the Real Madrid youth team.

Veronica enjoyed the love of French fans, who saw how tenderly their idol treated his companion. After the 98 World Cup, the media attributed many novels to Zidane, but Veronica did not pay attention to this. She always defended her husband and said that “sometimes she trusts him more than herself.” This attitude helped her win the sympathy of football fans in Italy, although Veronica never hid that the cold and damp climate of Turin did not suit her. In addition, the children often caught colds. Apparently, Zidane, who was born in Marseille, did not like this climate. And now, after five years of playing for Juve, there were rumors that the footballer wanted to leave. And go to the Spanish team. “I would like to keep Zidane, but my wife calls the shots and I can’t do anything. He is under the control of his wife, especially since she gave birth to his two sons,” lamented Turin President Agnelli. The footballer himself preferred not to comment on the rumors about his move, and only in the summer of 2011 he said: “Family is the most important thing for me... I confirm that my family doesn’t like it in Turin. But my wife doesn’t decide anything alone—we decide everything together.”

When Florentino Perez took charge of Real Madrid, the club's debts were colossal - almost $300 million. Perez began to pull the people of Madrid out of the debt hole - he sold the old Blancos sports town, located within the capital's center, to the city municipality for $600 million. In the suburbs he bought 120 hectares and built a new training base - it cost the club 85 million. With the remaining funds, Figo was bought - for 56 million, and money was found for Zizu.

And so, on July 9, 2001, the honorary president of Real Madrid, the legendary Di Stefano, presented Zinedine with the number five jersey in front of television cameras. Interestingly, Zizou did not pay taxes that were quite high for a legionnaire - the club did it for him. But he didn’t lose money on this, the player “worked off” by selling T-shirts, and for the right to broadcast the Frenchman’s presentation, the club’s box office was enriched by more than a million dollars. And there were queues for season tickets for Galacticos matches.

“I love Spain very much. I am attracted by the local resorts, the character of the local people, and the excellent climate. But the choice of the team is entirely Zinedine’s business. I have no right to dictate terms to him. My job is to support him, to approve or disapprove of his choice, but never to make decisions for him! When we discussed moving to Madrid, first of all, we were concerned about the future of the children. The climate, the opportunity to see each other more often, and even down to such little things as the distance of the French school from the area of residence and the tolerance of Spanish cuisine. Spanish football and everyday life turned out to have more “advantages”, and we, without hesitation, somehow simultaneously nodded our heads, saying, there’s no need to think about it - we have to go.”

Next up is Patrick Kluivert . His father Faustino is Surinamese, he also played football and played for a club called Robin Hood. He dreamed of his second son becoming a famous football player. Ludwin's mother is from Curacao, in the Antilles. She didn’t mind her son’s passion for football at all, and every morning she baked buns for her son to take with him. “My mother was always on my side, helping me understand myself, solve psychological problems and even taught me how to behave in a team,” Kluivert recalled. Patrick got so used to his mother’s buns that, as he grew up, he couldn’t give them up. When he performed in Milan, his mother lived with them - his future wife Angela and daughter Kinsey.

Patrick and Angela van Hulten dated for a long time, but Kluivert decided to propose to his girlfriend only in 2000. When the young people met, the girl’s parents were not happy. And it’s not even a matter of racial differences - Angela is a native Dutch, Patrick’s parents moved to the Netherlands from Suriname, a former colony. It’s just that since childhood, Kluivert had a reputation as a “bad guy” - he rarely showed up at school, was rude, and hooligan. As one of his friends recalled, “if he had not become a football player, he would have become a criminal.”

By the way, after meeting Angela, his life changed dramatically. Unfortunately, not for the better. There was no sign that tragedy would soon occur. On September 9, 1995, on a dark street in Amsterdam, a car with a tipsy Kluivert at the wheel hit and killed a man coming out of a parking lot. Thanks to the intervention of high-ranking officials and his merits on the football field, Patrick's prison sentence was replaced with 250 hours of forced social work. For a year he gave football lessons at one of the Amsterdam schools. But on the day of the funeral of a man who died due to the fault of the player, he again broke the rules by driving through a red light. And off it went... Fans shouted “Murderer!” in his face, then a stabbing, a trial - Patrick and his friends were charged with rape. By the way, at that time Angela was expecting her first child. But even in this situation, she involved lawyers and ran through the authorities. Kluivert was acquitted due to lack of evidence.

It’s good that then he wised up, partly, he was influenced by his beloved girlfriend, and then by the birth of three children, whose names Patrick wrote on the “tongues” of his boots. I wonder where he wrote the name of the third child?

He proved that Patrick is a man of word and deed with the very story of his romantic wedding. “I want our wedding to be dedicated to Holland’s victory at the European Championship. And I will dedicate every goal to my wife and our children.” There were five such initiations. At that tournament, Oranje reached the semi-finals, Patrick fought like a lion, he became the only one to score a goal against Toldo. And although the Dutch gave in, and Patrick failed to present his chosen one with a gold medal, Angela appreciated the heroism of her chosen one and agreed to become his wife. The couple got married in the Westerkerk Cathedral in Amsterdam. By the way, football player Rud Gullita and Johan Cruyff’s niece Estella were married there a few weeks earlier.

And although “in his early youth” Kluivert had a “violent temperament”, and the media called him a “wild beast”, his wife managed to tame him. Patrick became more serious, more reserved, and gradually got rid of dubious acquaintances. Now he devoted a lot of time to his family, bought a house for his mother in the Mediterranean. Rumor has it that Kluivert was under his wife’s thumb. “I love Angela. She is the smartest woman, and it has never happened that she was wrong about something.” However, the idyll did not last forever, and already in the middle of the last decade the couple separated. Either Angela was tired of Patrick’s adventures, or he was tired of her overly revealing photo shoots. However, Kluivert was just finishing his football career at that time; things weren’t going well for him. True, the new darling of the former Dutch national team striker also does not adhere to puritanical views. Rosanna Lima was able to quickly console Patrick, and in 2007 the couple registered their relationship. They are already raising a common child, Shane Patrick. And Kluivert communicates well with his first wife; they remained friends despite the ugly divorce. He probably managed to grow up after all. Although his status obliges him: Patrick is already learning the basics of a coaching career, periodically observing the training of his offspring at the Ajax academy.

Scandals and personal life of Zinedine Zidane

The footballer's full name is Zinedine Yazid Zidane; he was born and raised in a far from prosperous area of Marseille, where his parents emigrated from Algeria in the mid-50s. In the late 90s, he was recognized as the best football player in Europe, in addition, he was recognized as the best football player in the world three times, and in 2016 he was named the best French football player in history. Zidane is popular, rich, has many titles and awards, as well as a huge army of fans. But, at the same time, he is a person with a very difficult character and a very scandalous biography. No, he never had problems with drugs and did not shoot at the paparazzi like Diego Maradona, and he also did not evade taxes like Lionel Messi, and never had as many love affairs as Neymar. Off the field, Zidane is generally a meek, modest and reserved person, an exemplary family man and the father of a large family. However, on the field he more than once gave vent to his emotions and used his fists.

Let's start with an incident that occurred at the French Championships in 1993. Then, in a match against the Bordeaux club, Zidane deliberately hit Marcel Desailly in the face, for which he was immediately sent off the field. He explained his outburst by saying that Desailly himself had rudely provoked him. According to Zinedine, during the match he receives a lot of accidental or deliberate blows, but, as a rule, he tries to restrain himself, however, in this case, Marcel’s behavior completely infuriated him. He also added that he comes from a disadvantaged area, where it is customary to respond to offenders fairly.

In 1995, the Frenchman received red cards twice: in the Intertoto Cup final, for hitting Thorsten Fink, and in the French Championship for a tackle on Federico Mendy. A year later, when the footballer moved to the Italian club Juventus, at the Italian Championship he was again sent off from the field in a match against Perugia for a tackle with both feet. And a year later, during a match with the Parma club, the Frenchman was sent off the field based on the testimony of the side referee, who pointed out his clash with Enrico Chiesa.

In 1998, during a match against Saudi Arabia at the World Cup, Zinedine received his first red card while playing for the French national team. Then the football player literally trampled his opponents: he deliberately stepped on Fuad Amin, who had pestered him. For this, the Frenchman was not only sent off the field, but also received a disqualification for two subsequent matches, and was able to return to the field only for the quarterfinals of the tournament.

Then the captain of the national team, Didier Deschamps, said in an interview that what Zidane did was unforgivable; because of his outburst of rage, the entire team suffered, which found itself in a difficult situation. Later, the athlete was forced to formally apologize. Zidane also admitted that, in total, this was his ninth dismissal from the field in his career. Three months after this incident, the Frenchman was again punished for a tackle with two feet.

At the group stage of the Champions League in 2000, Zidane was sent off for rough play against Emerson, although, according to the Juventus coach, his player was treated unfairly this time, in addition, his departure turned out to be a defeat for the team at the end of the match. However, the UEFA disciplinary committee also decided that the referee had gotten carried away, so Zidane was disqualified for only one game. However, less than a month had passed since the Frenchman, in a match against Hamburg, deliberately hit the opposing team's defender in the face with his head for an infringement, and then prevented him from getting up. The blow was so strong that Johan Kintz was carried off the field with a broken jaw. Since this was the second removal in a row in the Champions League matches, Zinedine this time received a disqualification for as many as five games. He again made his public apology, however, not to Johan personally, but to the young players who follow his example, noting that he simply lost control of his emotions. Let us add that this trick cost the Frenchman his second Ballon d'Or.

It should be noted that later this “butting” of his – a headbutt in the opponent’s face – became a kind of Zidane’s trick. So, in 2004, in the semi-final of the Royal Cup, he hit his head in the face of Spaniard Pablo Alfaro in a match against Sevilla, for which, of course, he was sent off the field. A year later, Zidane had a clash on the field with Quique Alvarez at the Spanish Championship; this episode, by the way, was even reflected in the documentary film “Zidane: Portrait of the 21st Century”. But the fans of Villarreal, whose player he injured, were, in spite of everything, delighted with the Frenchman’s performance and saw him off the field with applause.

But perhaps one of the most striking, scandalous and discussed episodes in Zidane’s career occurred in 2006, in the World Cup final, in a match against Italy. Then the footballer delivered his signature header to Marco Materazzi. This was preceded by a verbal altercation between the athletes, and then the Frenchman “butted” his opponent in the chest with such force that he could not stay on his feet and fell. Zinedine immediately received a red card and was sent off. He again asked for forgiveness from the spectators and fans for having seen this clash. The footballer called his action unforgivable, but added that he could not do otherwise, because Materazzi said something offensive, and repeated it twice, because the first time Zidane restrained himself.

According to the Frenchman, this was a deliberate and purposeful provocation, and therefore he does not consider himself guilty in this situation at all. For many years, it remained a mystery to everyone what the Italian could say that caused such a violent reaction from Zinedine, and only a few years ago Marco openly admitted that he had spoken rudely and obscenely to his opponent’s sister. Let us add that in that match the Italian national team nevertheless won on penalties, but the Frenchman, after the end of that World Cup, announced that he was ending his football career, both in the ranks of the national team and the club. Many years later, a sculpture was erected in Paris depicting this infamous episode.

It is noteworthy that in life Zinedine is always calm, reasonable and balanced. He met his wife Veronica Lentisco-Fernandez back in the late 80s, and they have been happily married for almost a quarter of a century. For the sake of her lover, she abandoned her career as a choreographer and focused on raising their four sons; by the way, they all followed in the footsteps of their dad and became football players.
