Movies

Andrei Gradov has already graduated from the acting department, but the actor has not received any special offers from the world of cinema. As often happens, everything was decided by chance. Andrei lived in the same building as actor Pyotr Ryzhov, who simply took photographs from Gradov and showed them to several directors. And one day the phone rang in the young man’s apartment. The artist was asked to urgently fly to Odessa to film the historical-revolutionary film “Prison Escape.”

After that, there was no end to offers. Gradov played in the social drama about pilots "Blue Lightning", the melodrama "Late Berry", children's films "A Fairy Tale Like a Fairy Tale" and "Ice Granddaughter", the film story "Starting Point". The actor took part together with Vladimir Vysotsky and Vladimir Konkin in the action-packed detective story “The Meeting Place Cannot Be Changed,” where he played the role of MUR employee Kolya Taraskin.

The musical comedy “Take Care of Women,” which features many songs by Yuri Antonov, brought incredible popularity to the actor. Next came the action adventure “Find and Defuse,” after which Andrei Gradov could no longer calmly walk down the street or use public transport. The film about a company of students who managed to catch and neutralize a criminal gang in the forests of Siberia was watched by 24 thousand Soviet viewers. Together with Andrei Gradov, Boris Nevzorov, Irina Shmeleva, Nina Ruslanova, and Mikhail Zhigalov also took part in the filming.

"Take care of women"

The actor's characters were diverse. Andrey was equally good at playing the role of a heroic worker in the production drama “The Warmth of the Cold Earth” and a cowardly everyman in the children’s science fiction series “Guest from the Future.”

"Guest from the Future"

In the mid-80s, the artist’s filmography was replenished with works in the military drama “The Guilt of Lieutenant Nekrasov,” where Andrei played the role of an aircraft navigator, and in the historical film “On the Steepness,” in which Gradov tried on the image of a Red Army officer. In the role of the military, Andrei appeared in the films “At the Edge of the Sword”, “Secret Fairway”, “Pursuit”.

Many times Gradov also starred in lyrical comedies - in the sports film “Girls from Sogdiana”, the musical about Odessa “Primorsky Boulevard”, the ironic film about spouses “The Ideal Couple”. The actor also played leading roles in the crime dramas “Side Weapon” and “Take Me With You.” Don’t forget about the joint Russian-American thriller “Zigzag”.

"Perfect Couple"

In the new century, Andrei Petrovich mainly specializes in television series. Among the works of the early 2000s, the detective “Knockout Game”, the melodrama “Black Goddess” and the domestic drama “Rich Masha” were popular. In 2008, with the participation of Andrei Gradov, the show of the series “Autumn Detective” began, in which Nikolai Chindyaykin and Yuri Nazarov became the artist’s partners.

Also, for several seasons, Gradov appeared in the popular hockey series “Molodezhka”, and in the historical melodrama “Institute of Noble Maidens” he appeared in the image of Sklifosovsky. The 2011 action film “Lecturer,” in which the actor played an FSB general, also did not do without Gradov’s participation. The main roles – a professor of political science and a freelance artist – were played by Dmitry Pevtsov and Ekaterina Guseva. In the comedy “The Best 3-D Film,” the actor appeared in the frame as a film academician.

Film activities

After graduating from Shchukinsky, Andrei Gradov, which is something that beginning artists often have to face, was not invited to act, which upset him very much. But a happy accident made its adjustments.

Gradov lived next door to the successful artist Pyotr Ryzhov, who took his photographs and showed Andrei to several directors he knew. And finally, the young performer’s phone rang at home.

Gradov was asked to urgently arrive in Odessa, where the historical-revolutionary film “Prison Escape” was being filmed. This is how Andrei Gradov’s acting career began. After his debut, the young actor had no problems with offers from directors.

Gradov played in the social drama that made him famous called “Blue Lightning”, then in the melodramatic film “Late Berry”, the story “Starting Point”, as well as in films for small television viewers “The Ice Granddaughter” and “A Fairy Tale as a Fairy Tale”.

Andrei Gradov at the beginning of his film career

In the legendary detective story “The meeting place cannot be changed,” Andrei appeared in the role of MUR officer Nikolai Taraskin. Later, he more than once recalled the brilliant play of V. Vysotsky and V. Konkin.

The artist’s wide popularity was brought to him by the public-favorite musical comedy “Take Care of Women,” which featured compositions by the star of that era, Yuri Antonov. His next work was a character in the action adventure film Search and Defuse.

Since the release of the film, Andrei Gradov’s popularity has reached such proportions that it has become impossible for the artist to calmly walk down the street or travel on public transport. In this film, Boris Nevzorov, Nina Ruslanova, Irina Shmeleva and Mikhail Zhigalov starred with him.

The characters performed by Andrei Petrovich were extremely diverse. The artist could plausibly get used to the image of the worker-hero in the dramatic film “The Warmth of the Cold Earth” and the coward-passer-by from the science fiction series for children “Guest from the Future.”

In the mid-80s, Gradov’s filmography was supplemented by roles in the military film “The Fault of Lieutenant Nekrasov,” where his hero was an aircraft navigator and a Red Army officer in the historical film “On the Steepness.” In a military role, the artist also starred in the films “Pursuit”, “At the Edge of the Sword” and “Secret Fairway”.

Andrey Gradov in “The meeting place cannot be changed”

Andrei Gradov’s works were no less successful in lyrical comedies, for example, “Primorsky Boulevard” - a bright musical, the action of which took place in Odessa, and in the film about sports “Girls from Sogdiana”, the ironic “The Ideal Couple”.

Later there were a couple of major characters in the crime dramas “Take Me With You”, “Side Weapon”, as well as in the thriller “Zigzag”, filmed in Russia and the USA. During the period of stagnation in film production in the 90s, Andrei Petrovich retrained as a dubbing artist and often agreed to work in advertising videos.

Once his name was involved in scandalous proceedings. It turned out that the performer at the same time advertised the products of two competing companies producing detergents, Fairy and AOS. However, it later turned out that Gradov visited one of the companies only to resolve issues related to accounting.

At the same time, he is a supporter of gambling. He can devote his free time to poker or playing billiards.

But Gradov’s main hobby is travel. Together with his family, he has already visited more than 30 countries. As an unusual souvenir, he brings home unique recipes from local cuisine from each state. At home, he likes to prepare these dishes himself for guests and loved ones.

Gradov Andrey Petrovich is a native Muscovite. He was born in one of the capital's maternity hospitals on January 29, 1954. Andrei and his sister Tatyana were born into the family of playwright Pyotr Gradov and his wife Isis. After the tragic death of his mother in a car accident, the father of the future actor decided to give the children to be raised by his wife’s parents, not little known in Chuvashia, Joakim Stepanovich Maksimov-Koshkinsky and Tatyana Yun. Andrei and Tanya’s grandfather was a popular actor, screenwriter, honored artist and authoritative director, who even organized the Chuvash professional theater. Grandmother was also close to art and was the number one Chuvash actress. Needless to say, with such educators Andrei himself and his sister eventually came to cinema. Andrey Gradov is a graduate of the Boris Vasilyevich Shchukin Theater Institute.

He made his film debut in 1977, in the film “Prison Escape” directed by Radomir Wasilewski. In 1978, Gradov appeared in Alexander Sokurov’s drama “The Lonely Voice of a Man,” where he played the role of a character named Nikita. Then there were several more small roles before he received one of the main roles of his life in the legendary series by Stanislav Govorukhin “The meeting place cannot be changed.” In the detective story starring Vladimir Vysotsky and Vladimir Konkin, Gradov portrayed a young operative of the Moscow criminal investigation department, Kolya Taraskin. This minor, but at the same time bright hero, was especially remembered by the audience.

He became truly famous after the release of the 1981 musical comedy “Take Care of the Women.” In the film, directed by Viktor Makarov and Alexander Polynnikov, Andrei Gradov played the aspiring journalist Zhenya Maslovsky. Soon, the actor accepted several more offers to star in a number of films, including the drama “Awakening” by Latif Fayziev, the action film “On the Edge of the Sword,” the television comedy “Primorsky Boulevard” and some others. In addition, he appeared in the cameo role of Ishutin in the adventure film “Guest from the Future.” As the actor himself admitted in one of his interviews, the director of the film Pavel Arsenov asked him to play the role of the “moron” as a neighbor. Despite the fact that it was shown in the film for only a couple of minutes, Gradov is still often reminded of this picture.

With the collapse of the Soviet Union and the crisis in cinema that arose at that moment, the actor was forced to take an eight-year break from filming. They simply stopped inviting him to the movies. Then he took up trading for a while, negotiating the supply of food products and accompanying cargo. Everything changed with the arrival of foreign films in the “new” Russia. Due to the need for their translation and dubbing, many characters from the most popular Hollywood blockbusters spoke in the actor’s voice. Currently, Andrei Gradov has about two hundred films to his name, the dubbing of which he worked on. In addition, he actively acts in films and television series. Among them are the crime-detective series “Turkish March” and the popular series “Truckers”, the comedies “Crown of Thorns” and “The Best Film 3-DE”, as well as the crime thriller “Knockout Game” by Vadim Shmelev, for the role in which the actor was asked shave off the mustache he'd had all his life.
