Cinematic Emma

According to an established legend, which has been retold many times in the press, Emma Watson decided to audition for the role of Hermione at the suggestion of her teacher, but she was not accepted immediately. A huge number of girls all over England actually applied for this “position”; the selection process was strict, and Emma had to audition seven times before she was approved. Daniel Radcliffe who played Harry Potter , for example, it was a little easier - he already had a small filmography behind him, and in the 1999 film “David Copperfield” he played along with Maggie Smith (who appeared in “Potter” as Professor McGonagall).

A bottle instead of a magic wand. What happened to the actors from "Harry Potter"?

In general, Emma was lucky. She played in all eight films in the series (although she wanted to leave after the fifth because she was tired), became a world-famous actress (she even completed acting courses in the process) and got a good start for her future career. She, of course, tried to get rid of the image of Hermione (like Radcliffe), but in the list of her works we can highlight, perhaps, only “Noah” (she played the wife of one of the sons of the title character) and the Disney fairy tale “Beauty and the Beast”, which earned at the box office $1.27 billion. Other films with her participation were mostly criticized, and for “Sphere” Watson even received a nomination for the Golden Raspberry anti-award.

And some more information

Emma Watson is the name of the girl who played the sorceress Hermione

Granger in the film Harry Potter. Starting from a very early age,

three years old, Emma loved to play, pretend to be someone. For all

who knew her, it became clear that Emma would go far as an actress,

because she had everything it took. So Emma

tried to play in all the plays that were staged at school, in

one of which Watson played Morgan La Fay in

"Arthur: The Young Years" and then played

one of the main roles in “The Happy Prince”.

At the age of seven, young Emma won the grand prize for a detailed

description of poetry in the Daisy Pratt Poetry Competition

Poetry Competition), her school.

At the still early age of ten, in 2000, Emma Watson

asked to take part in auditions for Harry Potter and

Philosopher's Stone", along with some of her friends and

classmates. Emma didn't take it seriously at first, but

after she was called for a second audition, she

I looked at it differently.

"Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone" is the first role where Emma

played professionally. She was alone against many other thousands

girls who were in contention for the role of Hermione Granger, and therefore

Emma never even dreamed of getting this role.

Off-set, Emma Watson is an ordinary 12-year-old girl, but only

very self-critical. She likes to play hockey, tennis and

English rounders at her school. Emma also loves to debate, but

Most of all she loves two cats - Bubble and Domino, who

live with her.

Rich Emma

However, Emma Watson also received quite a decent fee for the Potter films. By 2007, she had earned more than $12 million for her role as Hermione; in 2009 she entered the list of the richest young stars, and a year later she topped the rating of Hollywood actresses with the highest earnings. Then her annual income was estimated at 19 million pounds - fees, advertising contracts and other earnings, according to Watson, allowed her not to think about money, but to do what she wanted.

Happy childhood

Our heroine was born in Paris into a family of lawyers. When she was 5 years old, the family moved to Oxford.

From the age of five or six she was actively involved in sports (playing hockey), and from the same age she began participating in school theater productions. Art and physical education were her favorite subjects at school.

Emma had no idea that in 2001 she would become a professional actress. However, fate decreed that the future star of the Harry Potter films decided to try her hand at casting for the role of Hermione Granger. The actress successfully beat out thousands of applicants and received the role, which made her famous overnight.

Smart Emma

Despite her popularity and high level of income, Emma Watson never forgot about education. Even during the filming of the first Potter films, young actors were given time for homework, and she took full advantage of this opportunity to receive a certificate with the highest marks - just like her heroine. After school, she entered the prestigious American Brown University (it was part of the Ivy League) and successfully graduated in 2014, receiving a bachelor's degree in English literature. According to her, she chose to study in the United States because English universities have “less freedom.”

Watson also became a certified yoga and meditation instructor and once traveled to the Canadian Rockies to meditate peacefully in nature.

Professor Dumbledore was also not spared from fan theories about his personal life. And it doesn’t matter that from the first pages and frames he looks like a classic, venerable wizard from a fairy tale, like a white-bearded grandfather. For example, the authors of the very famous "Professor Dumbledore's Great Game", devoted mainly to reflections on how the Hogwarts headmaster prepared young Harry for the inevitable fatal battle with the Dark Lord, found a match for him. And not in distant youth, but at the height of the action of the books. And so it turned out to be Professor McGonagall!

And this is not only in the mentioned text. Dumbledore's romance with the transfiguration teacher is a very popular topic for fan fiction. Actually, why not? Two people who have seen and experienced a lot. Two masters of magic. They have so much in common! And at work, they communicate all the time, willy-nilly. But neither he nor she has a family. And not even in fan fiction, but in Rowling’s original books, more than once they somehow suddenly, although it’s already after school curfew, find themselves together at the scene of events.

Active Emma

Emma Watson uses her worldwide fame to promote various initiatives that are useful from her point of view. She was chosen as a UN Goodwill Ambassador and gave a fiery speech to this organization, calling on men to also advocate for gender equality as part of the “HeForShe” campaign. At the same time, she denies militant feminism, although she considers herself a feminist; in her opinion, men and women should have equal rights and opportunities for realization. Watson has repeatedly become the face of various campaigns for women's rights. So, in 2019, she opened a service through which any person who has been subjected to harassment could receive legal help and advice. True, she was criticized for inconsistency - for example, for posing almost naked for Vanity Fair magazine. The actress responded to this that feminism is freedom and equality, and not restriction of other women in their actions.

Who does Hermione love?

Author: Turambar, Translator: Vivian

On the official website of J.K. Rowling https://www.JKRowling.com has a question: “Does Hermione love Ron or Harry?” “I can’t help but believe that some of you have already guessed. But still, I'm not going to respond because it would ruin the discussions I enjoy."

One of the most recent Mugglenet polls https://www.Mugglenet.com/pollresults.shtml on whether Ron and Hermione will be a couple in the sixth book or not is interesting to research.

A huge number of respondents believe that if they don't become a couple in the sixth book, they will be together in the seventh book. This is despite the fact that the Ron/Hermione relationship failed to develop in a romantic direction as many people expecting the release of Order of the Phoenix had hoped, due to Ron's obvious interest in Hermione since the Yule Ball in HP and the Goblet of Fire. Both Harry and Ron have come to terms with the fact that Hermione is an attractive girl, albeit in different ways.

Note that JKR herself posted a question on her website linked above on the topic: “Does HERMIONE love?……”

The main position of those who believe the possibility of a Ron/Hermione relationship is based on these ideals:

1) In her dreams/daydreams, Hermione loves/prefers Ron over Harry

2) The relationship between Harry and Hermione is just a deep, unromantic, platonic friendship.

I'm going to reject this data in my essay by looking at all sorts of key signs of attractiveness, since we can't see what's going on inside Hermione's head, which is the main answer to the question.

My contention is that the survey result is misleading; people choose what they want to see rather than what will happen. For people who are convinced of the Ron/Hermione romance, there are a lot of questions that they need to analyze:

1) This is Harry's story.

This is a simple fact, but an important one when you analyze romantic preferences in books. This is Harry's story: his growth from child to man, his lost family and (probably) found new family... Harry looked into the Mirror of Erised, and his heart told him that his most important desire was to find a family. He can either find her by dying and joining his parents, or (more likely) find love and start a family of his own.

How many places in the novel are there that DO NOT involve Harry in the action? What is the role of Ron and Hermione's meeting? Of course, Harry must experience love himself; he cannot experience it through his friends. If Harry pairs up with Ginny, the main Potter romance will STILL be the Ron/Hermione romance. For the reason that this novel will involve two members of the trio - the two main, after Harry, heroes of the books.

If you don't believe me, think about what it would look like on screen in a cinematic production of Potter. We would have watched at least five or six films watching Hermione's undeniable female leadership, and five or six films feeling the emotional connection between the trio's heroes. The only film where we know Ginny will have a bigger role is Order of the Phoenix, but even there she will be significantly and reliably overshadowed by Hermione. After spending so much time with the trio, would people be more worried about Harry and Ginny pairing up than Ron and Hermione? They wouldn't, and that's important, because the obvious question that arises is this: Would JKR consider a romance involving her protagonist and supporting character overshadowed by a romance involving his best friends?

If we were to assume that Harry's romance is THE MAIN one and consider the romantic options for Harry that would make the most sense within the structure of the Potter series and have the most emotional impact, the most logical candidate for Harry would be Hermione.

2) The structure of Potter

Harry Potter includes several sequential books. JKR should portray, consistently over several books, why Harry would choose Ginny or Luna over Hermione, or why Hermione would choose Ron over Harry. The protagonist's romantic partner should be the most significant person to him. For this reason, JKR has given herself a daunting task if she plans to show Ginny or Luna becoming closer to Harry and more important to him than Hermione. At this stage - before the release of the sixth book, Hermione is undoubtedly the most important female friend for Harry. JKR has already portrayed for us Victor and Cho, jealous and threatening the rapprochement of Hermione and Harry, .

Hermione's presence as the main character in three quarters of the Potter series, after which she is established as the most important woman in Harry's life with only one or two books ahead, poses the problem of how can you fit two main characters into these two books? At this time, it is clear that Ginny and Luna are supporting characters. Increasing someone's role as a romantic partner would have to correspond with a decrease in Hermione's influence over Harry and her importance to him and to the plot. Otherwise, any romance for Harry would have no emotional impact and would look like Harry's romance with Cho: just a superficial shell. This was good for Harry/Chow; Chow was clearly destined for a failed first love. But the ending of the seventh novel should be more meaningful for Harry, especially since the question of Harry's love and heart seems to be the most important in Potter.

There is another structural problem: Ginny and Luna, as well as Chow, have a year difference in their education. This means that Harry will spend his time in class and homework as usual with his two friends, unless there is a drastic change from what has happened in the past five books. This is not a good recipe for the role of Hermione, which needs to be cut down.

Finally, is it all believable for Hermione's character to sit and allow another girl to get closer to Harry than she does and possibly influence him in ways that could put Harry in danger? Never. Hermione is desperate to keep Harry alive and well. She wouldn't trust this role to anyone but herself. Think about it: she was right about Harry, even when Dumbledore was wrong.

3) Scenes that don't make sense from Ron/Hermione's point of view

Keep in mind that we will be looking at the scenes from the perspective that Hermione loves Ron and only sees Harry as a friend.

a) Why does Hermione hug Harry for so long when he arrives at 12 Grimmauld Place?

The guy was in danger and was under threat of expulsion. But at the time they meet, all three know that everything is fine with him, and the only emotion that all three experience is the pleasure of contemplating each other again. Hermione hugs Harry not out of great relief from fear for him. J.K.R emphasizes Hermione's feelings of joy at this meeting. Why? Hermione almost knocked Harry to the floor with her hug, she was chirping and beaming with happiness, and Ron had to intervene to break the hug. Is this just an element of Hermione's platonic feelings? I don't think so.

b) Why wasn't Hermione delighted when Ron was appointed Head Girl?

This scene is completely illogical from Ron/Hermione's point of view. Think about it: Ron, perhaps in love with Hermione, has received an honorary position - a big deal for someone who is usually overshadowed by Harry. Yet Hermione bursts into the room expecting that Harry has received his badge and screams loudly with joy when she thinks that Harry has been appointed Head Boy.

There are two important points here:

First, JKR compares Hermione's cry of joy for Harry to Mrs. Weasley's reaction to Ron receiving his badge. "Mrs. Weasley screamed as well as Hermione." We know that Mrs. Weasley loves Ron because he is her son. She is happy for her loved one. Taking this as a clue, what can be said about the strength of Hermione's feelings for Harry?

Secondly, Hermione doesn't pay any attention to Ron's feelings at all. Having decided that Harry had been appointed Head Boy, shouldn't she have taken into account Ron's disappointment because he was in love with her? Shouldn't she have felt disappointed that she wouldn't be able to spend extra time with Ron as prefects?

Hermione is completely shocked that Ron was appointed Head Boy and after that she cannot even think of any reason why he could be appointed to this position. She doesn't show ANY joy for Ron becoming Head Boy. For about two pages of text, she and Harry are silent together while the Weasleys discuss it. This is not the behavior of a girl whose privileged boyfriend has just achieved something important to him. Something other than that means she can spend more alone time with him.

c) Why does Hermione suddenly seem to lose interest in Quidditch when Harry is kicked off the team? And why was she so indifferent when Ron made the team?

She says, "It's just a game" and "At least my happiness doesn't depend on Ron's goalkeeping ability." Are these the words of the girl who, along with Ginny, wore "red and gold gloves, scarves and rosettes" for Harry's last game? The girl in the Philosopher's Stone was watching Harry play so intently that she didn't notice that Ron was fighting with Malfoy under her chair? While Ron was celebrating his inclusion on the Quidditch team, Hermione fell asleep and attended the party altogether out of politeness. This event is very important to Ron, perhaps the most important event, in a personal sense, that happened to him at school. Compare this to the joy she feels for Harry when the interview with Rita Skeeter comes out. It was her idea, and yet she gives Harry all the leadership.

4) Other issues to consider:

a) Hermione tries to invite Harry to spend time with her making hats for the house elves

b) Hermione leaves her parents, whom she has not seen for a long time, and refuses a trip to the mountains for skiing on Christmas Day in order to come to Harry's aid.

c) Hermione squeezes Harry's hand, seeking physical and emotional support in both Prisoner of Azkaban and Order of the Phoenix, and when Ron is there.

d) She goes with Harry to find out what Hagrid wants to tell during Ron's game at the final match. She could have stayed to cheer for him and Harry could have gone alone, but neither of them even considered that possibility.

e) Hermione demonstrates that she is thinking and discussing Cho's problems and her love relationships, Ginny's love relationships and Harry's love relationships. She writes a long letter to Victor. She is also straightforward in many of her statements to Ron and Harry. The idea that she somehow has romantic feelings for Ron but is too anxious and shy to talk to him about their relationship doesn't fit with Hermione's behavior in Order of the Phoenix at all. (Hermione is confident and shows leadership qualities.) On the other hand, she knows that Harry is in love with Cho, and that he must get over it within himself before anything else happens.

f) Hermione tries to act like a good friend to Harry by talking about Cho, but she is clearly emotional when she finds out that Harry kissed Cho.

-She knows the background of their relationship

-She listens to gossip about Chow

-She often asks Harry to find out how he and Cho are doing and how he feels.

-She asks Harry to meet her on Valentine's Day even though Harry is on his first date with Cho

-She only gives advice to Harry after his trouble with Cho, but does nothing to make things better

g) Nothing happened between Ron and Hermione, despite the fact that they spent a long time together in the summer:

-They themselves said that nothing happened

-Ron said that "Hermione was very worried" about Harry

-There weren't any worried looks when Harry walked in

-They clearly didn't discuss their relationship (if they did, why was Ron surprised when he later found out that Hermione was texting Viktor?)

5) Harry's feelings

For the past three years, Harry had been in love with Cho, while his friendship with Hermione had steadily developed. In Order of the Phoenix, JKR not only reveals that Harry is in love with Cho (Chow's feelings are not so clear), but for the first time she begins to bring Harry's feelings for Hermione to the surface.

a) For the first time, Harry experienced unpleasant emotions when meeting Ron and Hermione from the thought that they had spent most of the summer without him and doing something together.

b) For the first time, Harry begins to connect the voice of conscience that he hears in his head with Hermione's voice

c) For the first time, Harry had a dream in which Cho, with whom he was in love, turned into Hermione

d) For the first time in the scenes in the forest with the Grawp, the centaurs, the Death Eaters, Harry demonstrates a strong instinct to physically protect Hermione. This didn't happen in the Shrieking Shack and Time Warp scenes in Prisoner of Azkaban.

JKR presents a distinct change, an impressive progression in Harry's feelings. In the Prisoner of Azkaban scenes, Harry allowed Hermione to hold on to him for emotional and physical support. They faced equally terrifying foes in both The Order of the Phoenix and Prisoner of Azkaban: Whomping Willow, Dementors, Lupine as a werewolf, Sirius as a big dog.

But in comparison, Harry is more instinctive in protecting Hermione when the six friends are in MinMagic and encounter Death Eaters.

e) There are further examples of Harry's atypical behavior towards Hermione, which convey that her judgment has become more important to him. He helps her with her revision, he feels ashamed and hides his bad grades from her, he responds angrily when she doesn't take his side when he expected her to.

JKR presents another progression: in Prisoner of Azkaban, Harry lied to Hermione about Hogsmeade without remorse. In "Hero and the Goblet of Fire", he felt guilty when he deceived her about the egg, but ignored it. In Order of the Phoenix, when he lies to her about Occlumency, he can't look her in the eyes.

g) He spends a lot of time in the Order of the Phoenix looking at Hermione. The text contains constant descriptions of what she does. For the first time, descriptions of her appeared from his perception: “shining eyes”, “flaming face”, “snow covering her hair”.

i) He doesn't leave Hermione or move away from her after he finds out that Cho is jealous of him.

j) Ginny becomes more attractive in the novel, but Harry still remains uninterested in her. What could attract him to Ginny, if at the moment Ginny is already *top quality* and that’s not enough? How else should she change to please him?

6) Harry and Hermione develop together

JKR gave Harry and Hermione a special place in the novel, showing how they develop together as student leaders and how their influence in the wizarding world increases.

a) It is significant that Hermione maintains the pace of development with Harry in Order of the Phoenix. Ron - no.

-Hermione came up with the idea to create YES, and Harry began teaching students

-Hermione invented a system of signs by which Harry could tell students when the next meeting was and a curse to protect them

-Hermione, through Rita, brought Harry's story to the wizarding world

-Hermione began to pronounce Voldemort's name. Few characters in the book do this.

-Harry and Hermione got rid of the usurper Umbridge “with the help” of the centaurs

b) J.K.R makes Hermione the one who makes Harry's life easier during the year:

-He takes great pleasure in teaching students, and it was her idea

-He told his story to people through the newspaper, and it changed their attitude towards him for the better - all thanks to Hermione

-She is the main person responsible for getting rid of Umbridge, who made Harry's life a complete misery

-She is the one who was able to get him out of his room on Christmas Day after Sirius, Ron, Ginny and the other Weasleys demonstrated their ineffectiveness in doing so.

c) J.K.R expands on Harry and Hermione's development together. They had one major adventure together in Prisoner of Azkaban, and one significant time together in HP and the Goblet of Fire. In Order of the Phoenix, they have two adventures together in the forest and fight for each other's lives in MinMagic.

Now it's time to answer J.K.'s question. R. “Who does Hermione love?” My answer is that she loves both, but she only loves Ron as a friend, while she harbors strong romantic feelings for Harry. This is the only conclusion I can draw from analyzing the Potter series.

JK Rowling wanted to marry Harry Potter and Hermione Granger

Rowling called the marriage of Ron Weasley and Hermione Granger a mistake. According to the writer, the witty girl who gets teenage wizards out of many troubles would be happier with the main character of the novel, Harry Potter, than with his best friend.

The final plot, according to Rowling, was influenced by reasons “that have little to do with literature,” reports the SundayTimes.

As a result, Harry Potter married Ginny Weasley, Ron's sister and a talented sorceress.

Russian fans of Rowling's works are confident that the writer did not make any mistakes. A representative of the Harry Potter group, Artyom Zamulin, explained to Reedus that the majority of Russian fans of the book series and its film adaptation opposed the wedding of Harry and Hermione.

A vote by group users showed that only 25% of fans of the Harry Potter novels are in favor of the wedding of Potter and Hermione. The remaining 75% are satisfied with the existing ending.

“If Hermione and Harry got married, we would lose contact with the Weasley family.” And so Hermione marries Ron, and Harry marries his sister, and the story continues,” Zamulin explained.

He added that the best time to start a love relationship between Harry and Hermione would be the fourth book in the series, Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire. In it, the characters become adults, and their lives become more varied and interesting.

— The love theme could have been introduced at the moment when Harry is chosen as a participant in the tournament. All further experiences and intrigues could give rise to a love relationship between Harry and Hermione, Artem believes.

The administrator of the largest Russian community of Harry Potter fans on the VKontakte social network, Fyodor Baibakov, is confident that true fans of JK Rowling’s books would be satisfied with any ending.

“I don’t think the fans’ attitude towards the novels would have changed if the plot had gone differently. After all, for us true Potterheads, what Rowling said is law (we call it 'canon'), he told Reedus.

According to him, attentive readers of the novels noticed from the very beginning that Rowling was somehow drawn to the Harry-Hermione pair.

— Even at the very beginning, when Hermione and Ron first met, conflicts and tense situations often arose between them (“you have to pronounce LeviOsa, not Leviosa!”). Whereas with Harry everything was quite peaceful. “I don’t remember a single conflict, no matter how serious, between Hermione and Harry throughout the series, while they “clashed” with Ron all the time,” Fedor explained.

He also said that the environment of Russian Potter fans is still divided into two camps - supporters of the couple Harry and Hermione - "pumpkinpayers" - and supporters of the couple Ron and Hermione - "goodshippers".

At the same time, starting from the third book, “Prisoner of Azkaban,” pumpkinpayers were almost sure that Hermione would be with Ron.

- There were many moments in The Prisoner that confirmed that Ron and Hermione were not a couple. For example, a quarrel over the fact that Hermione gave up Harry's gift - the Lightning broom McGonaggle, fearing that it could be dangerous. Then the scandal over Crookshanks - this was a serious blow to the friendship of the trio. And, finally, the journey of Harry and Hermione through time (here the pumpkinpies simply rejoiced!), noted the leader of Russian Potter fans.

In Goblet of Fire, the trend continued - during Harry and Ron's quarrel, Potter spent a lot of time with Hermione. However, at the same time, Rowling introduced into the plot Harry’s love for Cho Chang and Ron’s jealousy of Hermione’s hastily concocted relationship with Krum for some reason. This confused everything even more (“why,” the fans thought, “make everything so complicated if everything was already so clear!”)

In Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix, Rowling broke up Harry and Cho's relationship while strengthening Harry and Hermione's friendship. But in “The Half-Blood Prince,” Joan “brought together” Harry with Ron’s sister, Ginny (which she dreamed of throughout all the books) and, as a counterbalance, began to introduce the Ron-Hermione couple.

In “Gifts,” it would seem that there was a glimpse of new hope for the pumpkin-payers - Hermione quarreled with Ron, and was left alone with Harry for some time (this was perfectly shown in the film). However, soon everything fell into place - Hermione made peace with Ron, together they defeated the Dark Lord, well, what else everyone knows, Baibakov explained.

- My personal opinion is that this arrangement of characters - Harry with Ginny, and Ron with Hermione - was only necessary so that there were no “blank spots” in the plot. Otherwise, many new questions would arise - who will Ron be with? And Ginny? I think Rowling was guided by this when she eventually married the couples in this way,” added the administrator of the Harry Potter Fan Group.

According to the plot, at the end of the book series, Harry Potter marries Ginny Weasley and they have three children. Hermione Granger marries Ron Weasley and becomes the mother of two.

Modest Emma

Despite a certain openness, Emma Watson tries not to let strangers into her personal life - although, of course, it is she who arouses strong interest from her fans. Watson once admitted that while working on the first films, she was in love with Tom Felton (who played the negative character Draco Malfoy in Potter), but this, apparently, was a passing infatuation. In 2015, rumors attributed her to an affair with Prince Harry, but these were just rumors. Basically, Watson is single now; in November 2019, in an interview with British Vogue, she called herself self-partnered - that is, she is in a relationship with herself. This definition quickly became a meme - although, of course, it did not completely remove the question of who would become the happy chosen one of the former Hermione Granger.

Hermione and Emma

For a long time, the actress’s name was confused with the name of the character she embodied in JK Rowling’s film universe.

They said about her: “Yes, this is Hermione from Harry Potter!” The real name of the actress was not always remembered. Later, of course, everything changed. The name of Emma Watson, the actress who played Hermione, is now known to all Potter fans.

The role of the young sorceress revealed Emma's acting talent. However, the name of the one who made Watson famous did not overshadow the real name of the actress. Hermione Granger didn't become Emma. Moreover, when the Harry Potter epic finally came to an end, the actress managed to ensure that her name was not associated exclusively with the young magician’s companion. Hermione Granger took up a whole chapter in Emma's life, but never made her into an actress of one role.

Emma Watson also starred in other films: “Ballet Shoes”, “Children’s Party at the Palace”, “Seven Days and Nights with Marilyn”, “Elite Society”, etc. In them, the actress made it clear that she could be different, not at all similar to the Hermione that Harry Potter fans love and know.
