Biography of Oksana Domnina: Olympic bronze 2010, marriage with Kostomarov and romance with Yaglych

early years

Oksana was brought into figure skating by her parents. She started skating in early childhood, and when the girl was 6, her parents sent her to an outdoor skating rink, but three months later the young figure skater was taken to the section, immediately assigned to dancing.

Oksana Domnina’s first partner was Anton Ryabov, and they were trained by Kirov resident Irina Fedorovykh. After Ryabov, the girl’s partner was Ivan Lobanov, with whom she took ninth place at the Russian Junior Championships and eighth among adults. However, Oksana skated with Ivan for only a season. The reason was that she was called to Odintsovo by Alexey Gorshkov, who specialized in working with dance duets.

In the Moscow region, Maxim Bolotin became the girl’s partner. She skated with him for two seasons. Having won prizes at the Junior Grand Prix stages in Poland and Ukraine, the couple qualified for the finals, where they did not achieve success the first time, finishing seventh.

A year later, having performed well in Bulgaria and the Czech Republic, the couple made a second attempt to conquer the final of the Junior Grand Prix, but stopped one step away from medals. As Wikipedia writes, by that time the couple had lost mutual understanding, which led to separation. The main success of that period for Domnina was the bronze of the Czech Republic among juniors.

Ekaterina Gordeeva + Egor Beroev

Less than a month had passed since the start of training, and in the smoking rooms they were already whispering that Yegor was cheating on his wife Ksenia Alferova with figure skater Katya Gordeeva . “Look at how he looks at her!”, “Gordeeva is blooming and smells like sex!”, “They’ve completely lost their shame - they’re huddling in front of everyone!” Why, in front of everyone - in front of Alferova, who was also skating together with Povilas Vanagas . He tried to console her, explain that it was just a show, feelings on ice were not real. The actress didn’t want to listen to him:

- I'm leaving the project!

Ksenia’s grandmother - Lyudmila Krainova (mother of her stepfather - Alexander Abdulov ) - then advised:

- Go, granddaughter, to your father. He will tell you which icons to pray to and where to put candles.

Desperate Alferova did just that. Soon the husband came to his senses. And after this story, Ksenia began to say:

— Marriage is a constant battle. Get distracted a little, relax... You can’t let it come to this!

Paired with Shabalin

Oksana Domnina’s new partner was Maxim Shabalin, who had previously skated with Elena Khalyavina and fought for medals at the Junior World Championships. If Maxim managed to take silver and bronze with Khalyavina, then one of the first results of cooperation with Oksana was gold at the Junior World Championships.

Alexey Gorshkov continued to train Oksana and Maxim. Their collaboration lasted until 2008. During this time, the couple won two Russian championships, adding two silvers and a bronze, took silver and gold at the European Championships and won the Grand Prix final in the 2007/08 season. Although the season was rich in awards, the couple did not go to the World Championships due to the operation that Maxim had on his knee.

The desire to perform well at the World Championships led Domnina and Shabalina to change coaches. Natalya Linichuk and Gennady Karponosov, who lived in the USA, became the new mentors of the Russians.

The first season was a mixed bag. Oksana and Maxim missed the CR to better prepare for the European Championship, but there was no triumph in Helsinki. During the first part of the program, Maxim fell, the couple became only fifth, but the next day they withdrew completely, as Oksana’s partner’s injury worsened.

Given these circumstances, no one expected a miracle from the Russians at the World Championships, but in Los Angeles they jumped above their heads and won gold, writing themselves into the history of ice dancing - they became the first couple to win both the junior and “adult” World Championships .

Oksana Domnina+Vladimir Yaglych

This novel can be called the most ostentatious. Many are sure that the story was invented from beginning to end by Ilya Averbukh to attract more attention to his couple. And - lo and behold! — having appeared on the covers of glossy magazines, looking like movie premieres holding hands, Oksana and Volodya became the winners of that season!

“For a long time I didn’t even want to admit to myself how much I care about Volodya. And realizing this, she tried to suppress her feelings. She convinced herself: “Think about your family, everything will pass.” But it didn’t work... - Domnina , giving an interview to “7 Days”.

“We’ve been together not so long ago, but it seems like I’ve known Oksana all my life!” Yaglych purred in response .

Those in the know laughed out loud at these vanilla confessions and explained:

- This is a demonstration performance! Domnina and Kostomarov have been living together for several years, raising their daughter, but Roma has never asked her to marry. It will upset anyone. The cunning Aver realized what needed to be done to please his ward. It worked perfectly! Kostomarov quickly forgave the betrayal and proposed marriage. Then another child was conceived. But Yaglych didn’t grieve - with such a texture you won’t be left alone.

Think about it!

  • In memory of Oksana’s betrayal, Kostomarov has a tattoo on his right hand: “Love - crucifixion” (“Love is a crucifixion”).

Vancouver Olympics

Although the couple went to the Vancouver Olympics in 2010 as one of the contenders for victory, experts doubted that the Russians would be able to take gold or even perform well.

The scandal surrounding the original dance did not add to optimism. Back in December 2009, the couple performed an Aboriginal dance, which outraged some indigenous Australians. A representative of the Australian Aborigines accused Domnina and Shabalin of mocking their culture, calling the incident outright cultural theft.

Later, British singer Sheila Chandra got involved in the case, saying that the European champions illegally took the song “Speaking in Tongues II” for the original program. She even threatened to file a lawsuit, but the matter never came to court.

The skeptics were half right in their fears. Gold in dance went to Canadians Tessa Virtue and Scott Moir, but the Russians grabbed bronze (silver went to Americans Meryl Davis and Charlie White).

Vancouver 2010 did not go well for the Russians; as a result of the Games, the head of the ROC, Leonid Tyagachev, was dismissed, so the bronze medal won in Canada was considered a success in the Kremlin. Both Shabalin and Domnina were given the medal of the Order of Merit for the Fatherland, II degree.

The Olympics in Vancouver became the last major competition in the sports biography of Oksana Domnina. After Vancouver, the couple ended their sports career, as it turned out that Maxim’s injury was chronic.

However, neither Shabalin nor Domnina left figure skating completely. Already in the summer of 2010, Oksana and Maxim were elected to the executive committee of the FFKKR.

"Glacial period"

Having completed her career in amateur figure skating, Domnina, like many other figure skaters, ended up in an ice show. This format has been promoted in Russia since the mid-2000s by Ilya Averbukh, silver medalist of the Salt Lake City Olympics in ice dancing.

Oksana Domnina’s debut in “Ice Age” was the “Professionals Cup”. Only former skaters took part in it, changing partners at the end of each round. In the very first round, Domnina’s partner was Maxim Shabalin, and then Oksana performed with Andrey Khvalko, Ruslan Goncharov, Maxim Stavisky, Alexander Zhulin, Pyotr Chernyshev, Roman Kostomarov, Maxim Marinin, Alexey Tikhonov and Povilas Vanagas.

Oksana also participated in the regular seasons of Ice Age. In the fourth, her partner was actor Vladimir Yaglych, known for the science fiction film “We are from the Future”; in the fifth, she skated with world speed skating champion Ivan Skobrev; in the sixth, Oksana again got an actor as her partner, this time Daniil Spivakovsky. The duet with Spivakovsky was not successful, but with Yaglych and Skobrev Oksana became the winner of the season.

In the seventh season of the popular project, Austrian actor Wolfgang Czerny, well known to Russian television viewers from a number of domestic films and TV series, paired up with Oksana Domnina. Wolfgang and Oksana reached the 11th stage, after which the couples are no longer eliminated, so they will go through to the end of the season.

In their performances, the couple often used both popular things of the 90s (the Aqua group song “Barbie girl”, Whitney Houston’s hit “I Will Always Love You” from the film “The Bodyguard”, “Rain” from Yuri Shevchuk), and new readings of the classics (the song “The Sound Of Silence” by Paul Simon and Art Garfunkel, arranged by the American metal band Disturbed, etc.).

Domnina's short-term romance

Participation in “Ice Age” and similar projects more than once became a serious test for seemingly strong and time-tested relationships.

“A new body, new emotions, new sensations, plus you spend quite a lot of time with this person and subconsciously want to please your partner,” Roman Kostomarov

in an interview with RT.

The Olympic champion in ice dancing knows firsthand what he is talking about. In 2011, world champion Oksana Domnina

gave birth to a daughter for Roman, but after participating in the next season of “Ice Age” she began dating her project partner
Vladimir Yaglych.
The figure skater looked happy and spoke openly about her affair with the famous artist.

“For a long time I didn’t even want to admit to myself how much I care about Volodya. And having realized this, she tried to extinguish the feelings, to crush them. I convinced myself: “Think about your family, everything will pass.” But it didn’t go away,” Domnina said in an interview with 7 Days magazine.

However, the union of Oksana and Vladimir turned out to be short-lived. Soon after breaking up with Yaglych, Domnina reunited with Kostomarov and married him. And in 2021, the couple had a second child.

Personal life of Oksana Domnina

For a long time, Oksana dated Roman Kostomarov, Domnina even gave birth to his daughter Anastasia. However, in December 2013, Oksana Domnina admitted in the media that Vladimir Yaglych was her new chosen one. According to her, during their work together they began to get to know each other better, which developed into sympathy for Yaglych, and later into an affair with him.

Domnina explained her departure from Kostomarov by saying that she was tired of waiting for her common-law husband to propose marriage to her. However, the skater did not date Yaglych, with whom Oksana performed in Ice Age, for long; in January 2014, Domnina returned to Kostomarov. And already in April they got married, and Roman became the legal husband of Oksana Domnina.

In January 2016, there was an addition to Domnina’s family; Oksana’s second child was born, her son was named Ilya. Oksana's husband is no less titled than her. He even has Olympic gold in Turin, obtained together with Tatyana Navka (the current wife of the press secretary of Russian President Dmitry Peskov).

Photos of Oksana Domnina can be seen on her Instagram page. More than 22 thousand users have subscribed to the figure skater’s Instagram page with photos and videos.

Vladimir's first wife - Svetlana Khodchenkova

Yaglych and Khodchenkova are a real hero and Russian beauty.
They met as students - at the Shchukin Theater School. Vladimir is a stately handsome man, he studied a year older than Svetlana. Yaglych and Svetlana Khodchenkova

They drew attention to each other in the first years of training at Shchuka. However, there was no hurry to rush things. Only after graduation did fate bring them together. The actors were involved in the same project and felt that they were not indifferent to each other. After which, in 2005 they got married.

Wedding of Yaglych and Khodchenkova

In 2010, their marriage began to crack at the seams. The cause of the discord was Svetlana’s booming career. Khodchenkova’s husband played mainly in TV series and was content with supporting roles. In addition, rumors appeared about the actor’s affair with a colleague on the set. In 2011, the young people officially divorced.
