Every girl dreams of what kind of wedding she will have - a lush white dress, a carriage, many guests, and the groom is a prince.

But there are fairy tales in reality - real royal weddings: Prince William and Kate Middleton, Prince Albert and Charlene Wittstock.

How and where are wedding ceremonies of this level held? Who's invited? Who sews the bride's dress?

Prince William proposed to Kate Middleton on November 16, 2010, and on April 29, 2011, the wedding took place, which was followed by the whole of Great Britain and the whole world.

The organization of the ceremony was entrusted to the department of Lord Chamberlain, one of the highest servants of the royal court of England.

On the official website one could find a detailed travel plan for the prince and the future duchess, from Buckingham Palace to Westminster Abbey, which in the 20th century became the traditional wedding venue for members of the royal family.

The wedding of Prince Albert of Monaco and Charlene Wittstock was also the event of the year. The wedding ceremony took place in the large hall of the princely palace and was broadcast on several screens for the residents of Monaco. However, unlike the wedding of Kate and William (for which a royal YouTube channel was even created, where all preparations for the wedding, interviews with organizers, florists, etc. were broadcast), all news about the upcoming wedding of Albert and Charlene was kept secret .

Guests

A royal wedding implies the presence of high-ranking guests, famous people, and artists. Among those invited to Kate and William's wedding were, in particular, Prince Albert and his future wife Charlene, Elton John, David and Victoria Beckham. In total, almost 2000 guests were invited.

A smaller circle of guests - 900 people - were invited to the gala dinner.

Prince Albert and Charlene wanted to see Karl Lagerfeld, Naomi Campbell, Giorgio Armani, Nicolas Sarkozy and his wife and many other famous people at their wedding. A total of 4,000 guests arrived for the ceremony.

Families at a wedding

If you watched the broadcast of the wedding ceremony, you probably noticed that not only on the bride’s side there was an empty seat. The chair on the groom's side was also empty. No one sat next to the prince's brother. This place was intended for my mother, Princess Diana. Thus, Harry decided to honor the memory of his deceased mother, whom everyone would so like to see at the wedding.

In addition, Princess Diana's relatives - sisters Sarah McCorquodale, Jane Fellows and brother Charles Spencer - were invited to the wedding. Harry's Aunt Jane spoke to those present. At the ceremony, she read verses from the Epistle to the Romans, dedicated to the power of love.

Another bright and unusual moment was the speech of Bishop Michael Curry, head of the Episcopal Church (Anglican Church in America).

He is the first African American to hold this position. His emotionality during a speech entitled “The Power of Love” shocked the guests not only with its content, but also with its execution: violent gestures, sudden transitions from a whisper to a shout and vice versa, all sorts of oratorical techniques - such as in a church, and even at a wedding and in the presence of everyone there never was a British royal family. It seems that everyone was surprised, even Harry, who actually invited the bishop to speak with Meghan. The queen's gaze during the speech of the church representative was telling. Also, all those present were amazed by reading the speech from the iPad.

Ceremony decorations

But the differences in preferences when decorating weddings in the UK and Monaco were noticeable. The English royal court emphasized the importance of harmony with nature. Westminster Abbey tried to create a festive atmosphere in nature - live trees, plants and flowers were brought for the alley.

The bride's bouquet was very symbolic and consisted, in particular, of “Sweet William” carnations, a great idea.

Guests at Albert and Charlene's wedding in Monaco were immersed in the wonderful atmosphere of a fairy tale - the arch, stairs, and passages were covered with flowers of extraordinary beauty.

Bouquet

The wedding bouquet of the Duchess of Sussex, this is the title given to the newlyweds by the groom's grandmother, the reigning Queen of Great Britain, Elizabeth II, contained forget-me-nots. These delicate flowers were Princess Diana's favorite flowers. The main color of the bouquet, as expected, was white, but not completely. Another touching detail is that Prince Harry himself helped put together the bride’s bouquet. He personally picked several flowers in the garden of Kensington Palace.

Her father could not take the bride to the altar. A week before the wedding, he suffered a heart attack and did not attend the ceremony due to his health condition. Thanks to Prince Charles, who escorted the bride to the groom. It looked very touching and family-like.

Harry refused to participate in choosing his future wife's outfit and wanted to see the bride along with everyone at the ceremony. That is why his reaction was such that it is impossible to play on camera. It seemed that if Megan and Charles did not speed up their pace, Harry would shed a stingy male tear. When the bride was next to the groom, he told her: “You look amazing! I'm so lucky."

Meghan, unlike previous royal brides, was able to put an engagement ring on her husband's finger. In the royal family, it is customary that only wives wear rings, and men do not even have them. But here, too, the American bride violated the canons.

Cake

2 cakes were prepared for William and Kate's wedding. According to English tradition, the bride and groom should have different cakes. The bride's is white, as a symbol of purity and purity. The 17-tier cake was covered with white icing and decorated with symbols of the 4 parts of the United Kingdom of Great Britain. The wedding treat was made by pastry chef Fiona Kearns.

The groom has his own cake - according to tradition, fruit or chocolate. William chose the chocolate one, which was prepared according to a special recipe from the royal family - from crumbled biscuits from the Scottish company McVitie's without baking, with the addition of dark chocolate.

By the way, the prince's favorite cake.

In the Principality of Monaco there are no traditions associated with wedding desserts. Prince Albert and Charlene chose an elegant cake with several tiers, covered with white icing. An important detail was the decoration on the cake - a South African flower with delicate pink petals - as a sign of respect for the roots of the bride - Charlene is from South Africa.

Car

After the ceremony, Prince William and Kate Middleton headed to Buckingham Palace along the central streets of London. The newlyweds traveled in a carriage.

Prince Albert and Charlene opted for a more modern option - a custom-made Lexus Landaulet with a transparent roof, in which the couple first headed to the Church of St. Devote, patroness of the County of Monaco. According to tradition, the bride leaves her bouquet to the Holy Virgin as a sign of veneration.

After the official dinner, Kate and William also switched to more modern transport, namely an Aston Martin convertible, which was traditionally decorated by the groom's friends. The car drove away with the inscription “JU5T WED”.

Royal weddings of the century

Royal weddings of the centuryWhat a magical phrase - “royal wedding”!.. In the minds of millions of girls around the world, this is a real fairy tale with carriages drawn by white horses, beautiful bouquets, hundreds of guests, a veil embroidered with pearls and a huge train of a luxurious dress.
And with a noble, handsome prince, of course. Or even a king. At real royal weddings, all these fairytale fantasies are absolutely real. True, as a rule, with the exception of the excellent external data of princes and kings.

On the eve of the most high-profile royal wedding of the early 21st century - Prince William and Kate Middleton will finally get married on April 29 - we decided to remember the most spectacular ceremonies of the past decades. Of course, there were more of them than you will see here, but there is enough of such magnificence to stock up on impressions before William and Kate exchange vows.

One of the most scandalous weddings of royalty took place in the first half of the last century: in order to marry his beloved Wallis Simpson

, an American woman with two divorces behind her, British King
Edward VIII
abdicated the throne.

They met in 1931, and began dating in 1934. In January 1936, Edward was crowned, but, realizing that marrying Wallis would not have gained him popularity among the people (especially since the Archbishop of Canterbury opposed her), he signed his abdication in December. In a radio address to the nation, Edward admitted that it would be simply unthinkable for him to govern the state without the support of the woman he loved.

The Duke of Windsor (this title was granted to his elder brother by King George VI, who ascended the throne) and Wallis Simpson were married on June 3, 1937, at the Château de Candé in France. They lived together until Edward's death in May 1972.

With Prince Philip

, the son of Prince Andrew of Greece (great-great-great-grandson of Queen Victoria), heir to the British throne,
Princess Elizabeth
met when she was 13. Eight years later, on November 20, 1947, they got married in Westminster Abbey. The prince received the title Duke of Edinburgh, and Elizabeth was proclaimed queen five years later. They have been together for 63 years.

Wedding of Oscar-winning actress Grace Kelly

and
Prince Rainier III of Monaco
is sometimes called the wedding of the century.

The beautiful blonde and the noble monarch met when Grace came to Europe in 1955 to film Alfred Hitchcock's film To Catch a Thief. They fell in love and got married a few months later: a civil ceremony took place on April 18, 1956, and a religious ceremony the next day at St. Nicholas Cathedral in Monaco.

Grace, who became a princess by giving up her film career, wore a magnificent dress created by MGM film studio designer Helen Rose. This outfit, according to the unanimous opinion of fashion critics, is the most elegant wedding dress in history. It was sewn by 30 seamstresses and took more than a kilometer of taffeta, and antique Belgian lace and pearls were used in the decoration.

Daughter of Prince Paul of Greece, Princess Sofia

got married in her homeland, in Athens: on May 14, 1962, her wedding took place with Prince
Juan Carlos
, son of Count Juan of Barcelona and heir to the Spanish throne. At the time, no one was sure that Juan Carlos and Sofia were really destined to become king and queen, but in 1975, after the death of dictator Francisco Franco, the couple moved to the royal palace in Madrid.

Her chosen one was the French banker and playboy Philippe Junot
. Their marriage was unhappy and lasted only two years, but their wedding is still considered one of the most high-profile royal ceremonies of the last century.

Diana Spencer's wedding

and the heir to the British throne,
Prince of Wales, Charles,
along with the wedding of Grace Kelly and Prince Rainier III of Monaco, is considered one of the most magnificent royal ceremonies of our time.

Earl Spencer's daughter and the Crown Prince met at a major charity event and married on 29 July 1981 at St Paul's Cathedral. Two and a half thousand guests attended the wedding, and more than 600 thousand people greeted the wedding procession on the streets of London. About 700 million more watched the ceremony on television.

Diana looked simply magical. To create her dress (which, by the way, there were two exact copies - just in case), designers Elizabeth and David Emmanuel needed more than forty meters of silk. The bodice and fluffy skirt were trimmed with antique English lace, and the head of the future “Queen of Human Hearts” was crowned with a luxurious diamond tiara, a family jewel of the Spencer family.

The union of Charles and Diana was unsuccessful and broke up in 1992, followed by divorce four years later.

European royal wedding traditions were also reflected in the wedding ceremony of Japanese Crown Prince Naruhito

and the daughters of senior diplomat
Masako Owada
.

The future spouses first met in 1986 at a “bride,” a reception in honor of the Spanish Infanta Elena, at which the heir had to choose a bride from more than 30 invited girls. According to other information, they met before. Be that as it may, at this evening Naruhito fell in love with Masako and decided to seek reciprocity. However, due to the fact that the potential bride's grandfather was the chairman of a corporation responsible for an environmental disaster that resulted in the death of people, Masako was not considered a good match for the heir. He, however, persistently made her proposal after proposal until she finally agreed.

Naruhito and Masako got married on June 9, 1993.

and
Prince Abdullah of Jordan
met in the spring of 1993 in a bank in Amman. It didn't take them long to realize that they were made for each other: their wedding took place on June 10, 1993. In 1999, Abdullah II ascended the throne and Rania became his queen.

Leticia Ortiz Rocasolano's engagement

and
Prince Felipe of Asturias
was unexpectedly announced in November 2003. The wedding of the heir and his chosen one took place on May 22, 2004 in the Madrid Cathedral of Santa Maria la Real de la Almudena. The wedding was broadcast all over the world and, according to approximate data, about one and a half billion television viewers watched the ceremony.

Crown Prince Charles

and
Camilla Parker-Bowles
(née Shand) began dating in the first half of the 1970s, but their marriage did not suit Buckingham Palace. The lovers' dates continued even after the heir to the throne married Diana Spencer, despite the fact that Camilla was also married. The relationship between Charles and Camilla became one of the main reasons for the prince's breakup with Diana.

In 2005, Charles and Camilla's long-term romance ended and they became husband and wife. The civil ceremony and church blessing ceremony took place on April 9 in the town of Windsor, Berkshire County.

One of the last royal weddings was the marriage of the eldest daughter of King Carl XVI Gustaf of Sweden and Queen Silvia Princess Victoria

and her personal trainer, fitness club owner
Daniel Westling
, who received the title of Prince and Duke of Västerjötland.

The couple met in 2002 at a gym in Stockholm. Daniel became Victoria's fitness instructor, and in February 2009 their engagement was announced.

The ceremony, held on June 19, 2010, was attended by more than 950 distinguished guests - crowned heads and statesmen from all over the world. The wedding took place at the Stockholm Cathedral.

Tomorrow we'll be treated to another fairy-tale royal wedding, with pomp and glitz perhaps - who knows? - will eclipse the royal ceremonies of past years: on April 29, the eldest son of the British Crown Prince Charles, Prince William, and Kate Middleton, a girl who does not belong to the nobility, will enter the arches of Westminster Abbey... We will certainly show and tell you how it will be.

Bride's dress

Finally, the bride's dress is one of the most important details of the ceremony. Duchess Kate wore an ivory dress by Sarah Burton, made by Alexander McQueen. A stunningly beautiful dress, flared at the bottom, with lace sleeves. The hem of the dress was 2.17 meters, which by the standards of royal dresses is not considered much. For comparison, the train of Princess Diana's dress was more than 8 meters.

Italian designer Giorgio Armani worked on Charlene Wittstock's wedding dress. A beautiful, cream-colored dress with delicate embroidery, which is repeated on the bride’s long train. More than 20 thousand pearls and more than 40 thousand Swarovski crystals were used to make the dress.

Wedding of Prince Charles and Diana

The wedding of Elizabeth and Philip's eldest son, Prince Charles, became the next major event in the kingdom, the bride was the lady, and later the princess, Diana Spencer.

St. Paul's Cathedral was chosen as the wedding venue. More than 3,000 guests were invited to the wedding celebration, and it was broadcast on television screens all over the world. Lady Diana's dress still ranks first in terms of train length - 25 feet or 8 meters. It took more than 130 meters of fabric to sew it. However, the material for the dress was chosen poorly: the taffeta wrinkled after the couple arrived at the threshold of the cathedral, and it was no longer possible to straighten it. The pictures captured how “rumpled” the future princess was.

However, the wedding of Lady Diana and Prince Charles itself, which took place on July 29, 1981, was fabulously beautiful and pompous. But few people know that he did not marry the woman he loved!
