Scroll invitation templates

If you have never made an invitation on paper, then it is better to initially try to recreate the simplest option.

Don't forget to use a font as a template. Choose the era in which you would like to immerse your guests, study at least approximately how it was customary to write at that time.

You can use picture templates, enter text there in Photoshop and print, and then manually age each scroll. Download link.

how to age paper

If desired, you can crumple it a little first. This will give you a more realistic effect. We time it for five minutes. And after the specified time, take out the painted paper. You can dry it naturally or using an iron. If the reader chooses the second method, experts advise placing the sheet on a cloth so as not to stain the ironing board or other surface.

Making it at home is not difficult. You just need to pour boiling water into a small bowl. Then add ten teaspoons of instant coffee. If this drink is not found at home, you can use cocoa powder. It should be taken in the same proportion as coffee. After this, stir thoroughly until the dry component is completely dissolved and then use it to age the paper.

What kind of wedding is a scroll invitation suitable for?

Before composing an invitation made in scroll format, it is worth understanding for what special occasions this card would be appropriate.

  1. Recreating historical times - the scroll itself suggests mystery, enigma and the spirit of history. Therefore, if your ceremony is held in a style that recreates ancient times, then a scroll will be the perfect invitation. It could be a party in the spirit of King Arthur, musketeers and knights. This theme is ideal for a wedding, as it is associated with incredible romanticism, adventurism and an adventurous spirit.
  2. Adventure quest - it is not at all necessary to completely recreate a bygone era; it is enough to immerse guests in a real adventure. It can still happen today. Throughout the evening, guests together with the newlyweds will look for lost treasures, and at the end of the celebration they will understand that the main treasure is love.
  3. Masquerade ball – not everyone likes to have traditional and boring wedding ceremonies. However, nowadays it is possible to create the perfect party in any style. Guests will love the masquerade ball, where everyone can try on a wide variety of roles.

Accordingly, a scroll invitation is not suitable for any wedding celebration. First of all, you should start from the stylization of the upcoming event.

If you are having a wedding in Russian folk style, then scrolls will look completely inappropriate, then you should consider an alternative option for invitations to the celebration.

We age paper with milk

If you want to create not just a yellow-red gift scroll, but one that is as similar as possible to the real one, you should use the method described below.

It requires preparing milk and a cotton pad or regular cotton wool. After that, take a sheet of paper and place it in front of you. We wet the disk in milk and begin to slap it on the snow-white surface. Moreover, it is important to do this, if possible, unevenly. Having completed the described manipulations, leave the paper to dry.

However, the work doesn't end there. When the future scroll has dried thoroughly, cover it with a thin cotton cloth and iron it with an iron. You can also hold the leaf over the flame if you wish. But it is important to prevent fire. Our task is to lightly scorch and smoke the paper.

We will print your text and drawings. The layout of the scroll/letter is preliminarily agreed upon and after that we can begin production.

Calligraphy and artistic colors (painting, portraits, landscapes...) are written by students of the Moscow State Academy of Arts and Sciences named after. S.G. Stroganov and MGAHI named after. V. I. Surikova

.

When making aged paper products (scrolls, letters, envelopes, posters, cards...) pigments are used: ocher, sienna, umber, burnt umber, sepia... With the right combination of these elements, you can get a natural age of 150 years in a couple of hours.

Our scrolls are made by the hands of artists and thanks to this we came up with our own aging technique - the paper is processed with natural pigments.

With this technique, the sheet does not deform and remains smooth, since it is not subjected to wet processing.

The edges of the paper are not even, as if scorched by fire, we cut them with special cutters - so they do not “fringe”.

By default, we age paper from dark to light, i.e. dark edge and light center. Thus, additional emphasis will be placed on the text block as the main one.

After aging, we treat the paper with a protective varnish and it is ready for a gift!

How to give greater historical authenticity?

DIY scroll

So, we figured out how to create the effect of old paper. However, if desired, it can be strengthened a little. And then we will tell you how.

Regardless of which method the reader used earlier, we prepare a box of matches and some instant coffee. First of all, burn the edges of the leaf. The main thing is to also prevent fire, otherwise all the work will go down the drain. Having achieved the desired result, grind the coffee granules in several places, thus making the color uneven.

When you are completely satisfied with the result, you need to carefully roll the prepared paper into a roll. Next, prepare a red candle, twine or twine, a coin or signet ring, if available. We need to secure the roll so that it does not unroll prematurely. Therefore, first we tie it with twine. Then we light a candle and drip wax onto the scroll. We wait a few seconds so that the mass has time to set, and we make an imprint on it. The main thing is not to forget to write a congratulation or invitation on your scroll. It is advisable to do this in calligraphic handwriting.

artificial aging of paper

We hope that our master class on how to make a paper scroll with your own hands will help you create the most realistic parchment that will become an original and, undoubtedly, memorable gift for any occasion. It should also be noted that recently artificially aged paper has been used to create unusual wedding invitations. Perhaps this information will also be useful to the reader.

How to do it yourself?

There is nothing more pleasant for guests than receiving a handmade wedding invitation. It is worth taking care not only of the written text, but also of the appearance of the greeting card itself. It should be neat, original and stylish.

Of course, you can turn to professional needlewomen for help. But in fact, there is nothing difficult in creating such compositions. This will help you take your mind off the hustle and bustle and save your family budget.

Materials and tools

The good thing about the scroll is that you can make it at home yourself, using available materials. If you want to get a more original postcard, then you will have to buy a few important tools.

For a simple, but at the same time stylish wedding invitation, you will need:

  1. A4 paper - you should take the thickest option. If possible, purchase yellow stationery paper.
  2. Scissors.
  3. Black helium pen.
  4. Matches.
  5. Tea bags.
  6. Lace, gold thread.
  7. Brush.

How to age scroll paper?

The peculiarity of the scroll lies in its antiquity. However, this is not so easy to do; just taking an ordinary yellow sheet of paper is not enough.

It is worth using special technology:

  1. Take a small plastic tray.
  2. Brew strong tea in the tray (without using sugar).
  3. Dip the paper into the resulting liquid. Remove the material after half an hour and evaluate its color. If the product is not yellow enough, then leave it for a few more hours.
  4. If you want the coloring to be uneven, then the paper must be crumpled several times before being immersed in tea.

If desired, the paper can not only be colored, but also scented.

To do this, add a few drops of your favorite essential oil to a plastic tray with tea. It can be either the unobtrusive smell of cinnamon or vanillin, or the strong aroma of coniferous trees and citrus fruits.

Burning the edges

Aged paper is also associated with burnt edges.

There are several ways to give the product the proper appearance:

  1. Using a candle is the most popular and affordable option. To do this, you will need to light a candle and hold the paper to it. As soon as you realize that the paper has caught fire, immediately blow it out. Before using this method on a finished product, you should still practice on an unnecessary sheet. Then you can get an idea of how long it will take for the paper to catch fire.
  2. Using paint. Photography stores sell special paint that helps make your photos look vintage. Buy this material and use a brush to apply vintage ink to the edges.
  3. Using gold plating. If you want your invitation to look more expensive, then you should consider gold plating. It can also be purchased at photo stores. Burn the edges with a candle and then use a brush to go around the corners, creating a flecked gold effect.

Choosing a font and printing the invitation text

The text is applied last. It is applied to ready-made and painted paper. You can write the speech by hand, or you can print it using a printer.

The choice depends on the time you have and the number of invitation cards. If there are a sufficiently large number of them, then it is better to print the text using a printer.

You can also download a special antique font online. It will completely recreate the era you specified.

If you decide to write on your own, then practice on a separate sheet of paper so as not to spoil the prepared scrolls.

Making a seal and decorating a scroll

The final and final stage in creating an invitation in the form of a scroll on paper will be its decoration.

The following may serve as original elements:

  • canvas thread is the most popular and affordable option, since you only need to roll the scroll and tie it with canvas thread;
  • satin ribbon - a more festive and solemn option, which involves the use of a bright red ribbon;
  • gold braid – purchase gold lace or embossed tape from tailor shops;
  • printing – if you wish, you can order the tool from professional craftsmen. The wax seal may contain your names or initials. With the use of such a seal, you can perfectly recreate the era of that time.
