Knitting using crochet makes it possible to create real works of art in the world of needlework. Openwork items of clothing allow their owner to look sophisticated and elegant, and if we are talking about a bride, also unique.

A crocheted wedding dress will favorably emphasize all the advantages of the figure, making the image romantic and feminine.

It can be long or short, narrow or fluffy, with long sleeves or with straps - in any case, such an elegant outfit will set the bride apart from other newlyweds.

A thin sheath of silk or satin fabric is usually sewn under a crocheted wedding dress so that the body does not show through the openwork. Decorate the finished outfit with rhinestones, crystals, sequins and other decorative elements.

Technique

You can knit a unique outfit using knitting needles or crochet. There are different knitting techniques, which is why knitted dresses are so different from one another.

Openwork patterns on knitting needles are obtained by using yarn overs and knitting several loops at the same time. When using a crochet hook to obtain patterns, stitches of different types and air loops are crocheted.

In addition to regular knitted patterns, special techniques for creating lace are used when creating wedding dresses. Lace can be:

  • Tape . When using this technique, repeating strip elements are knitted and connected into intricate patterns.
  • Irish . Lace consisting of individual floral motifs crocheted. Ready-made motifs are collected into a common canvas.

  • Romanian . Another type of prefabricated lace, the basis is a knitted lace. Designed patterns are laid out from the cord, which are fastened with a needle and thread.
  • Bruges . This type of knitting is very similar in appearance to bobbin lace. The pattern is based on openwork braid, from which the necessary patterns are ironed out.

  • Sirloin . Externally, the knitted fabric will look like guipure. The basis is a mesh consisting of square cells, some of which are covered with threads to create certain patterns.

The entire dress can be knitted or only its individual elements. In the latter case, the knitted fabric is combined with fabrics. For example, the bodice and sleeves of a dress can be crocheted, and the skirt can be made of silk or chiffon.

Another option

In the master class, the data is given for size 44. The dress is crocheted from cotton yarn with hooks No. 1; 2.

Pattern diagram and pattern:

Completing of the work:

  1. Make a pattern according to the required dimensions.
  2. Knit the motifs for the top according to pattern 1. For the armholes and bottom, knit triangular motifs according to pattern 2.
  3. Connect the motifs that are marked with arrows, knitting a single crochet under a symmetrical arch of 5 chain stitches of the adjacent square instead of 3 chain stitches.
  4. Tie the bottom with 2 rows of single crochets, and the armhole and neckline according to pattern 3.
  5. Knit the skirt according to pattern 4, sew to the top of the dress. To expand the skirt, you should gradually increase the number of loops in each repeat.

Styles

The styles of knitted wedding dresses are varied. These can be short and long models, dresses with bare shoulders or a flat top and sleeves, dresses with a straight silhouette or fitted ones with full skirts.

Since knitted lace is thin and openwork, in most cases the dress has a lining. The cover can be made of fabric that exactly matches the shade of the threads used for knitting, or from fabric that differs in color. This contrasting combination will highlight the beauty of the knitted pattern.

Color

Nowadays, not all brides dress in white for their wedding. Other color options can be used. The outfits are quite traditional in pastel shades - light lilac, sky blue, silver, etc.

Outfits made of knitted white lace, worn on a bright cover, look impressive. This outfit looks original and allows you to appreciate the beauty of the knitted pattern. You can do the opposite, sew a white dress, and knit its individual parts (for example, a bodice) from colored threads.

Yarn

To make a crocheted wedding dress airy and light, you need to choose the right yarn to make it. Silk threads are an excellent choice. The knitted fabric will be light, airy and will have a slight shine.

However, natural silk is not a cheap material, and taking into account the cost of work, a dress made from such threads will be very expensive. Therefore, you can choose threads at a more affordable price. The best option would be a blended yarn, which includes natural cotton and viscose. A knitted fabric made from this material will be thin, with a slight matte sheen.

Choosing yarn for a wedding dress

Yarn plays a very important role in the quality and beauty of a knitted dress. To make the right choice, you need to take into account some features of the threads.

The quality of a knitted product is primarily affected by its composition.

The thread may consist of:

  • 100% cotton - in this case, the knitted dress will be soft, but a product made from such thread can stretch, losing its shape and attractiveness. A lining made of silk or satin can protect against deformation.
  • Mixed fibers - the product will be soft, pleasant to the touch and at the same time, thanks to synthetic fibers, will not lose its shape.
  • Synthetic threads - then the dress will not lose its shape and will have shine.
  • 100% silk is the most successful material for knitting a wedding dress in terms of beauty and elegance, but also the most expensive.

Decor

Knitted dresses, as a rule, do not need additional decorations, since the main emphasis is on the beauty of the pattern. However, a wedding is a special occasion. Therefore, wedding dresses crocheted or knitted are often decorated with rhinestones, beads, and sequins.

If the dress is made entirely of knitted fabric, then you can match it with a belt made of satin ribbon. The contrasting combination of smooth shiny satin and textured knitted fabric looks very beautiful.

What to wear with?

As with any other wedding dress, you need to choose the right accessories for a knitted dress.

Veil

This most popular wedding accessory will decorate any bride. For a knitted dress, it is recommended to choose a classic veil made of tulle or other light fabric. A lace model in this case will make the image heavier.

When choosing a veil model, you should consider the style of the dress. Models with full skirts look good when paired with a multi-layered full veil. It is better to complement a straight or figure-fitting dress with a light veil without additional decor.

The length of the veil may vary. As a rule, a long veil is worn with a long dress and vice versa. But there are exceptions to this rule. For example, if a dress has a spectacular cutout on the back, then you should not cover it with a veil

Shoes

It is best to wear classic shoes with a crocheted lace wedding dress without additional decor. Most styles require heels. However, if the bride chose an empire style outfit or decided to wear a knitted sundress in a rustic style, then stiletto heeled pumps would be inappropriate. These outfits require shoes with a round toe and a small square heel or ballet flats. Sandals go great with a beach style dress.

Gloves

You can wear gloves with a sleeveless dress. If the dress is completely lace, then it is better to choose gloves with a smooth texture - made of satin or taffeta. But for a combined dress, in which individual elements are made of crocheted lace, openwork gloves that repeat the lace pattern on the dress are perfect.

Crochet wedding dress: review of unique models

One of the first things people think about when researching wedding dress styles and designs is that they need to look beautiful both during the ceremony and the reception.
After the ceremony, the bride usually wants to be able to move more freely, experience ease and, of course, be able to dance. Fortunately, knitted wedding dresses meet these goals in the best possible way.

All that remains is to choose a dress style that will best highlight the bride’s individuality.

In addition, it should be beautiful when knitted. Models that are suitable for this purpose.

  1. The classic model is characterized by a perfectly tailored waist and a wide skirt. The corset part is usually sleeveless, with or without thin straps. Depending on the fashion and proportions of the figure, the bottom of the corset can be completed with a triangular or semicircular shape. The model may consist of one or two parts. This model can be recommended for brides of tall or medium height, proportional build. Not recommended for short women prone to obesity.
  2. The Empire model is a dress with a waist under the bust and a skirt made of flowing fabric. Equally elegant with short or long sleeves. The top of the dress can be knitted. The cut-off line is often emphasized by decorative embroidery. A good solution for short girls - it visually slims and adds height.
  3. The Princess model is a dress that tapers at the waist, usually with a rather wide skirt. The final effect of a fluffy bottom can be achieved by choosing the appropriate openwork train. This model looks great even without a train; in this case, the skirt gently falls down, fitting into tight folds. The model is recommended for all brides who want to visually highlight their figure and lengthen the silhouette.
  4. The A-line model is a dress fitted at the bust using side darts, widening towards the base, without clearly emphasizing the waist. The bottom line of the dress is essentially the base of the trapezoid. Suitable for tall women, both thin and plump.
  5. A straight wedding dress is a model with a straight, non-widening skirt that continues the top line of the dress. Can be completely knitted or have only a knitted top. The model is suitable for tall girls with a defined figure and an impeccable hip line.

A knitted dress is appropriate in almost all wedding styles: glamor, romance, boho, retro or modern. There are many ideas for inspiration. Only the top can be knitted, or the knitting can gracefully stretch out into a long train.

This could be an elegant sheath dress or the finest openwork shawl that complements the bride's image. Thanks to crocheting, you can make any fantasy come true.

Some tips for brides

A knitted wedding dress is a great choice for a bride of any age. But you need to take into account that textured knitting adds volume, therefore, if the bride has an imperfect figure, then an outfit in which individual elements are made from knitted lace will suit her better.

It is quite difficult to buy a ready-made knitted dress for a wedding; these models are usually made to order. The bride must understand that this work is complex and painstaking, so it should be entrusted only to experienced craftswomen. Moreover, you need to place an order in advance, since it is unlikely that you will be able to knit a dress in a couple of days.

You also need to be careful when choosing yarn. A poor choice can lead to deformation of the product or distortion of the pattern, which will completely ruin the entire look. It is better to prefer an option with a relatively tight knit and the use of a lining for the dress made of good quality fabric. In this case, the outfit will retain its shape.

Some brides decide to knit their outfit themselves. But if a girl has never knitted such voluminous things before, then it’s better not to take risks. In addition, it is imperative to start work long before the appointed date of the celebration, since before the wedding itself the bride will have a lot of trouble and she may simply not have enough time.

Crochet dresses, works of our readers

Crocheted products (including dresses) have a great advantage: you can start almost anywhere, then add individual details (finishing elements) - ruffles, an elegant collar, fringed stripes, etc.

You can turn on your imagination and combine seemingly incongruous things, while taking into account the characteristics of a particular figure - emphasizing the advantages and hiding undesirable details.

But in the end you will have a unique dress, the likes of which no one else has, and you will receive many compliments like our authors!

Crochet wedding dress, work by Natalia Drozdova

Hello! My name is Natalya. I've been knitting for over 10 years. In recent years I have started knitting not only for myself (things no longer fit in the closet), but also to order. As soon as I started knitting professionally, I began to dream of creating a wedding dress. The opportunity presented itself in the summer of 2009. A friend was getting married, and was not afraid to conduct this experiment. Many thanks to her for this. I want to share my creation with you.

I knitted dresses for 3 months. Yarn - 100% cotton. For the main fabric and openwork inserts I used yarn of different twists. I started knitting from the bodice. Then, from the bodice down, I continued knitting the skirt. The back, train and hem of the dress are made using the Irish knitting technique. First, I knitted individual motifs, then sewed them on the wrong side.

After the dress was ready, we turned to the seamstress. She made the case. Since the hem of the dress is very heavy, I had to grab the dress to the cover: the sides of the bodice and cover were stitched together, and there was a zipper on the left. After everything, the belt was sewn on: on the back to the sides it was sewn along the entire length, in front there was a clasp made of hooks - an additional supporting element. The weight of the dress is about 3 kg.

Provence dress, fillet crochet

Dress "Provence". Size 46-48. The dress is made using the fillet technique, knitted from a mixed thread, 50/50 cotton with acrylic, consumption 400 g, 800 m per 100 g, hook 1.7. Work by Elena Saenko.

Before starting knitting, be sure to make a sample, steam it and do your calculations.

For the skirt, I used the tablecloth pattern without changes; the pattern seemed very harmonious to me. The wedges are clearly visible in the diagram, so the skirt is bell-shaped with 8 wedges. The beginning of knitting is approximately 40 rows of the pattern, it is possible to start on earlier rows, it all depends on the desired length. Knit from the cast-on edge downwards in circular rows, always on the right side of the product.

After the main part of the skirt is completed, continue the yoke from the cast-on edge upwards in single crochet stitches, laying a thin elastic thread, which ensures a good fit at the waist.

From the yoke upwards, knit a spider pattern (use the pattern from the skirt) in a circle in straight and reverse rows to the armhole. Then divide into two parts: shelf and back. Do not knit the armhole, it results in a dropped shoulder.

At the height of the neckline, separate both parts and close each shoulder separately. Sew shoulder seams. Tie the armholes and neckline with single crochets and finish with a row of picot stitches. Steam the product. The underdress is in a contrasting color, in my case dark blue, the pattern is better visible.
