It is believed that everyone can earn a living. It’s just a matter of not only the desire to do it, but also the amount that can be obtained based on the results of the work done. And the main thing is to be at the right time and in the right place. This is exactly what one of the very first Russian entrepreneurs, Artem Tarasov, did. What kind of person is this? And how did he achieve his intended goal?
The naive childhood dream of Artem Mikhailovich
Incredibly, unlike other Soviet children who traditionally dreamed of becoming cosmonauts and doctors, Artem Mikhailovich Tarasov wanted to be an ichthyologist from childhood. According to him, he sat for hours on the shore of the pond, catching tadpoles, fry and frogs with friends.
In addition, the boy’s father made a certain contribution to the development of such an unusual dream, instilling in him a love of fishing from the age of five. Moreover, this hobby was so great that when the boy was 13 years old, his father allowed him to go sailing on one of the fishing boats.
While being a cabin boy on several other ships, Artem Mikhailovich Tarasov thought quite seriously about a slightly different profession - a biologist. According to him, his plans included graduating from the Faculty of Biology at Moscow State University with subsequent internship in Kamchatka, where he would be able to work with fish going to spawn. However, the dream remained unfulfilled.
Biography
Artem Tarasov was born in St. Petersburg on June 13, 1990. The young man was brought up in an ordinary working-class family with his twin brother Korney. From an early age, mother Irina raised her brothers alone. The woman worked hard to feed her children.
Artem and Korney understood the value of money early. Both brothers were fond of sports since childhood. They practiced sambo for several years. During this time, Artem achieved the title of master of sports. After that, he moved to the combat sambo section. The ambitious young man became a champion not only in his hometown, but also at the All-Russian hand-to-hand combat tournament.
In adolescence, the paths of Artem and Korney began to diverge. One continued to play sports, the other became addicted to alcohol, cigarettes and a dissolute lifestyle. After receiving secondary education, Artem became a student at the Maritime University in his hometown.
In 2013, the athlete received a diploma in shipbuilding and ocean engineering. After this, the guy entered a higher educational institution. Received my diploma in 2021. As a student, Tarasov was actively involved in martial arts. He did not want to work by profession, so he began to develop in a sports direction.
A sharp change in course towards professional activity
Unexpectedly for everyone, the young man’s childhood passion for biology gave way to a passion for physics. Then he became interested in economics and mathematics. At the same time, he read a lot and educated himself. However, his parents, seeing such diverse hobbies of the young man, decided that it was time for him to make a decision. To this end, they persuaded him to submit documents first to the Moscow Mining Institute.
Immediately after successfully graduating from MGI, Artem Tarasov entered the Bauman Moscow Higher Technical School, where for some time he learned all the delights of Soviet aviation, including the creation of radio electronics, rocketry and nuclear energy. After graduation, Tarasov entered the Moscow Institute of Electronics and Mathematics, where he improved his knowledge in the field of exact sciences.
Much later, Artem Mikhailovich graduated from the Higher Courses of the State Planning Committee of the USSR, and then completed graduate school at one of the leading American economic universities with world fame.
Closer to the beginning of 1987, Tarasov already had the appropriate education, and in those areas in which he himself wanted. At the same time, he managed to defend his dissertation and become a candidate of technical sciences. But even then, no one could have thought that Artem Mikhailovich Tarasov would become one of the first entrepreneurs in the Soviet Union. We will tell you more about how it all began below.
commercial activity
In April 1987, he registered his first cooperative, Progress.
In 1989, he was elected vice-president of the Union of United Cooperatives of the USSR for his services in the field of cooperation. At the same time, he held the position of General Director of the foreign economic association “Istok”.
Tarasov gained fame in the USSR and abroad as a legal Soviet millionaire, who, by decision of the Tekhnika cooperative he headed, was paid a salary of 3 million rubles from the profits of this cooperative in January 1989. All taxes were paid on this salary - only the tax on childlessness amounted to 6% of the salary for Tarasov, or 180,000 rubles. Tarasov’s deputy in the cooperative, who also received a salary of 3 million rubles, being a member of the CPSU, paid membership fees - in the amount of 3% of the salary - 90,000 rubles.
All the money from Artyom Tarasov’s second cooperative “Tekhnika” was confiscated by the USSR Ministry of Finance after Artyom Tarasov declared himself the first legal millionaire in the “Vzglyad” program. He sued the USSR Ministry of Finance and won the case in the Supreme Arbitration Court. The money awarded for return from the USSR budget in the amount of 100 million rubles was never allocated.

A Brief History of Tarasov's Cooperation
According to the hero himself, the idea of opening a private enterprise, which was then called a cooperative, came to him completely by accident. The impetus was the visit of an acquaintance, a black marketeer and speculator, who, in fact, suggested the idea of opening his own business. And although at that time our future cooperative worker already had a prestigious job at one of the capital’s scientific institutes, where he received about 240 rubles per month, he liked his friend’s idea.
After some thought, Artem Mikhailovich Tarasov (his photo is posted below) agreed, and together with his friend he opened a cooperative called “Progress”. It is noteworthy that entrepreneurial activity in the USSR was just beginning to emerge, so there was no excitement.

And at FFCC Fit Fashion Combat Championship 2 - with Kazbek Magomedov. Both fights ended in the defeat of the young athlete, and Artyom left the ring for six long years. But not because I gave up, but to work on my mistakes and return with renewed vigor.
In April 2021, Artyom entered the ring of the FightPro tournament. The fight took place in the Russian capital, and Alexander Zhavoronkov became Tarasov’s opponent. The St. Petersburger immediately took the right tactics and won before the end of the first minute. This fight was only the first in the list of victories.
In July of the same year, Artyom fought with debutant Kirill Bushev. And he dealt with the enemy without difficulty.
Confident and pleased with his previous victories, on August 25 the athlete met with the Czech Filip Kovarik. He had already won judo and kickboxing tournaments, and won a professional fight. But the fight with the Russian was a losing battle for him: Tarasov knocked out his opponent in the second minute.

The first match of 2019 took place in February. Then Tarasov fought with Anatoly Shlemenko.
What was the business idea behind the cooperative?
The idea was to provide special services to people in need, allowing them to find each other and overcome a number of complexes and barriers. For this purpose, Tarasov and Co. organized a kind of dating service, where, for a fee, they helped two opposites find common ground.
As Artem Tarasov tells it, everything happened according to the following scenario: with the help of a computer, profiles of clients who wanted to meet their destiny were studied and processed; then 20 applicants of the opposite sex were selected from among them, who would have some common interests and would be suitable for each other in age, education or worldview; after that, all participants united in one place (usually it was a closed room) and for 48 hours they talked, ate, slept, walked and had fun.
After such a pastime, which Tarasov and his friend called a marathon, in almost 90% of cases the participants found a partner. By the way, the entrepreneurs got a real prototype of the “House 2” project. However, they still failed to implement the idea on television.
According to Artem Tarasov, the idea was good, but citing censorship, it was not allowed to air. In addition, the authorities themselves became interested in the entrepreneurs and, accusing them of “pandering with the subsequent receipt of Moscow registration by their customers,” shut down the organization. So the businessmen were happy for only a short time - only six days. Moreover, clients had to return money for services not provided.
“Technology” is a new theme for opening a cooperative
After a not entirely successful business experience, both partners decided to create a new cooperative, but using topics familiar to both of them. This time it was "Technique". Moreover, they started with traditional repair and maintenance of foreign electrical appliances.
Later, Artem Mikhailovich Tarasov (his marital status at that time left much to be desired, since he was not married) and his acquaintance slightly retrained and started working on computers, preparing the appropriate software for them. And this topic came in so handy that in a very short period of time, businessmen managed to accumulate over $100 million in their accounts.
What was exclusive about the new business idea?
According to Taras Mikhailovich, the idea with the technology was exclusive, since businessmen were among the first to bring personal computers to Russia. On average, one such PC cost its owners 50,000 rubles.
In addition, for an additional fee, entrepreneurs installed the entire hardware and software complex. Moreover, at that time the customers were not only private individuals, but also large government agencies and departments. True, in order to keep up with everything, businessmen had to hire their first employees, who became ordinary programmers from the Academy of Sciences. This is how Artem Mikhailovich Tarasov earned his fortune.
