Dmitry Krylov: I'm not macho!

Life stories

From birth, Dmitry Krylov's life was connected with travel. The first he accomplished while still in the womb. When the time came for her to give birth, she could only get to the nearest hospital by sea. But they didn’t manage to get the woman there on time. She gave birth right in the sea. At the time of Dmitry’s birth, she was already a widow, because a few days earlier her husband had drowned in the Sea of Okhotsk. The boy's mother was only 21 years old.

When the boy grew up a little, he and his mother moved to a small town near Moscow. This was his first trip. They lived with relatives, and the mother was able to fulfill her dream. She graduated from the conservatory and became an opera singer. While studying, she met a wonderful man who replaced Dmitry’s father. It was Lev Samuilovich Rozemblyum. He worked in the Kazan theater. It was there that he moved his new family. And again moving and traveling.

After graduating from the conservatory, Dmitry’s parents were assigned to work for three years in Ulan-Ude. Having worked there for the required period, the family returned to Kazan again. The journalist remembers that time with warmth. He had an excellent relationship with his stepfather, but had a strained relationship with his mother. Lev Samuilovich always defended the boy in front of his mother and taught him the wisdom of life.

Studying at school was very difficult for Dmitry. He dreamed of finishing school as quickly as possible, but he had no idea what to do in the future. Having received a certificate of secondary education, the guy was drafted into the army. He was sent to serve in Czechoslovakia. This journey changed his whole life. He saw how people live in Europe. The guy wanted to continue to travel further and learn the traditions and be residents of other countries.

After returning from the army, Dmitry became interested in directing and wanted to develop in this direction. He entered the directing department of GITIS. In parallel with his studies, he filmed videos and edited them. Dmitry could spend weeks looking for material for an interesting plot. For him, this hobby became the main source of inspiration.

To feed himself, Krylov did not hesitate to do any work. He worked as a loader, a watchman, was an assistant director, and even opened his own small film studio. In his youth, Dmitry also worked as a model. It can be seen on the pages of fashion magazines of the time.

In parallel with his studies, he tried many professions. Dmitry worked in many different ways in his youth: as a watchman, a loader, an assistant director, a stagehand, an ambulance driver, and was even the head of his own small film studio. This is not surprising: working with film and the pursuit of an original plot already served as a source of inspiration for him in those years. You can also see young Dmitry in photos of fashion magazines of that time, for which he often posed.

After graduating from university, he devoted 2 years to teaching in the early 80s. But the incident helped Dmitry reach a new level. Once, in a conversation with Mikhail Zadornov, Krylov mentioned his salary. Sympathizing with him, the satirist helped his friend get a new, more promising job in the literary and editorial department of the Central Television.

Not missing this chance, with the beginning of perestroika, Dmitry Krylov began his career advancement as the author and director of some programs. He becomes the author and host of the TV show “Televiewer’s Companion”, takes part in the creation of some episodes of “Perestroika Spotlight”, works on the joint Soviet-American project “Evening” and on the review program “The Word”.

The beginning of the 90s was marked by his rating project “Telescope” and the first issues of “Bad Notes”. The idea of creating a program about travel from the point of view of a person who is visiting abroad for the first time came to Krylov a long time ago. And he devoted his first issues to traveling around London.

The audience immediately liked the slightly ironic and light manner of the presenter, and the stories on air about the features of countries that the Soviet people had never visited were also useful for future tourists. The public, together with Dmitry, discovered the then mysterious world of foreign countries. Dmitry Krylov got into the trend of the times and became very popular.

Since 1996, the program has been broadcast weekly on Channel One. The presenter's favorite countries are Italy, China, and the Philippine Islands. In total, the team visited more than 120 countries over two decades. During this time, the film crew even managed to visit the North Pole. The first visit to Africa somehow didn’t work out right away, which the presenter didn’t really like. But gradually he got used to the black continent, as he fell in love with safari.

At the beginning of the project, the group went to the USA on a long trip, from where they brought a series of 12 programs about North America. Each Krylov program reveals a new country to the audience from an unusual point of view. For inexperienced travelers, Krylov discovered such heavenly places on Earth as the island of Bali and sunny Bulgaria.

Dmitry made many programs about Russia, starting from Vladivostok and Kamchatka, his small homeland, through Kazan, Solovki to Kaliningrad itself. The presenter reveals not only the beauty of a place, but also its historical features.

Krylov is the author of two unusual literary experiments: the book “Boomerang”, which was created in a commentary style of retelling another work, as well as the autobiography of the presenter “I am a Penguin”. Now “your DK”, in addition to being present on the screen, can also fit on the bookshelf of a devoted fan.

In October 2021, the premiere of the series “Rossiya Hotel” started on Channel One, in which the plot is based on the story of Ksenia, an employee of the organizational department. The main role in the project was played by actress Ekaterina Vilkova.

In June 2021, Dmitry Krylov came to Zheleznovodsk to film a program with “Unlucky Notes”. Participants in the filming process walked around the Resort Park and tried to move the famous Zodiac clock, carved out of stone. Separately, Dmitry Krylov devoted a place in the project to information about the city’s mineral waters. In addition, the TV presenter became interested in the site of primitive man in the forests near Zheleznovodsk.

Unlucky family notes

The presenter’s family life was not successful the first time. Dmitry Krylov was married four times. According to Dmitry himself, it was only with his fourth wife that he understood what true love was and was able to find family happiness. Although it is difficult to call this marriage standard. But more on that later.

The first wife of Dmitry Dmitry Krylov was a girl named Albina. At the time of meeting her, the guy was 25 years old. His chosen one was 10 years older than him, but this did not stop them from becoming husband and wife. The marriage did not last long. Five years later, the couple filed for divorce. Albin and Dmitry did not have children together.

Almost nothing is known about the second and third wives of Dmitry Krylov. The marriages were short. Only in his third marriage did Dmitry Krylov have an heir, who, according to family tradition, was named Dmitry. Despite the divorce from his mother, Krylov participated in his upbringing.

The presenter recalls that he was always the initiator of the divorce. He understood that he could not find happiness in marriage and could not give it to his wife. So that the relationship does not become burdensome, it would be better to end it. As for the mother of his child, relations between them were strained for some time. She could not forgive Dmitry for leaving the family and leaving her and her son alone. But gradually the former spouses were able to improve their relationship, and Krylov began to communicate with his son.

Personal life

Krylov's wife helped him as an editor. As the TV presenter himself explains, he constantly needs an outside view, a person who soberly evaluates the quality of the footage. Therefore, she and Tatyana travel together. In addition, his wife’s son from her first marriage, Dmitry, having studied at the Institute of Cinematography, became a broadcast operator and also visits overseas countries as part of a film crew.

In early episodes, Dmitry took his son Mitya with him on trips when he was 6 years old, creating a new format for this kind of program - traveling through the eyes of children.

One of the advantages of such a project for the creators is the chance to appreciate the cuisines of the world. Dmitry is known as a gourmet. Together with his wife, he is a fan of seafood dishes. The journalist does not refuse exotic meat delicacies.

Krylov’s hobby, revealed during long-term business trips, is hunting. In the country house in the Moscow region, which Dmitry and Tatyana built for themselves, a special room is reserved for trophy exhibits. In it you can see hunting exhibits and exotic souvenirs, for example, a real Mayan calendar.

Dmitry Krylov has developed an official website. Internet users can find a lot of useful information about the TV presenter on the Internet resource: biography, photos, videos. The journalist does not have Instagram.

Dmitry Krylova’s height is 170 cm, and the man weighs 62 kg.

Unusual marriage

Dmitry's relationship with his future fourth wife began in a very unusual way. A girl named Tatyana saw the presenter on TV. She liked him immediately. Tatyana set herself the goal of meeting Dmitry personally. She collected information about him bit by bit and looked for contacts where he might be.

The acquaintance took place over the phone. The girl called the control room of the television studio. By luck, Dmitry was there. He was the one who answered the call. Word by word he started talking with Tatyana. He liked the girl and decided to continue dating.

For some time it was a telephone romance. Then they started communicating live. After some time of such communication, Dmitry and Tatyana realized that they were interested in being together and they were made for each other. But despite this, they continued to live in separate apartments. For them it was a guest marriage.

Moving to their common country house was a huge stress for Tatyana. Dmitry Krylov’s wife said that for about two years they got used to living under the same roof. There were also serious quarrels. After them, the spouses could not speak for weeks. Tatyana says that in most cases she is the initiator of reconciliation. The woman admits that Dmitry is a person with a very difficult character, but she is ready to forgive him many shortcomings.

Spouses believe that it is impossible to be together and nearby all 24 hours. Everyone should have free space, including physical space, where they can take a break from each other. Based on this principle, Dmitry and Tatyana live in different rooms in the house and always stay in different hotel rooms. For some this will seem strange, but the spouses are quite comfortable with this. And this is the most important thing.
