Inna Ulyanova: creative activity and personal life

Childhood and youth

Actress Inna Ulyanova was born in the Ukrainian city of Gorlovka on June 30, 1934. The mother of the future star worked at a construction site, his father was a mining engineer. A few years later the family moved to Moscow.

The reason for the changes in the Ulyanov family was the rise of Ivan Alexandrovich through the ranks. A valuable employee was invited to a ministerial position. He received the post of Deputy Minister of the Coal Industry of the USSR, which he held from the reign of Joseph Stalin, ending with the era of Mikhail Gorbachev.

The house in which the Ulyanovs settled belonged to the Council of Ministers, and apartments in several entrances were provided to people associated with cinema. Little Ulyanova often encountered one of the celebrities of that time. Perhaps that is why the dream of a stage and film roles was born in Inna’s soul.

Inna Ulyanova in her youth
After graduating from school, the girl submitted documents to the famous “Pike”. Objectively, Inna’s chances of admission were low: she did not study in theater studios and had never appeared on stage before. Indeed, the prose passage read before the commission did not make an impression on the examiners. But the fable and poetic works made them change their minds about the unremarkable applicant. Years later, Ulyanova shared with the audience:

“I began to read Krylov’s fable loudly, as other applicants taught me. But, as it turned out, I learned it automatically. And only during the exam did the meaning of what was happening with Krylov begin to dawn on me! I read it and burst out laughing at every line. The commission members raised their heads, shocked by such an original interpretation. The poem was even cooler. I chose not the popular Pushkin, but a little-known poem by Khodasevich. There was a “penny dating house” and “dubious virgins in an obscene round dance.” The commission perked up again.”

Inna Ulyanova was enrolled in the 1st year, warning that if the girl did not reveal her acting talent within six months, they would say goodbye to her. As life has shown, the examiners' fears about her were not justified. In 1956, Ulyanova successfully graduated from the Shchukin School.

The beginning of an acting career

Inna is accepted into the university, but Ulyanov is immediately warned that if the girl does not reveal her talents within six months, she will be expelled. The actress was able to prove that she was really worth something and in 1965 she successfully graduated from Pike. Inna received her first theatrical experience on the stage of the Leningrad Theater, where Ulyanova was remembered by everyone as a comedic artist. Inna managed to make TV viewers laugh without much effort, but she herself dreamed of working in cinema.

Personal life

In her personal life, Inna Ulyanova was no less optimistic than in her career. The actress recalled that men repeatedly sought the favor of the beautiful actress, but she was in no hurry to throw in her lot with the first gentleman she liked.

According to rumors, actors Evgeny Samoilov and Sergey Filippov, Evgeny Morgunov and athlete Valery Brumel sought Ulyanova’s attention at different times. There was talk about a romance between Inna Ivanovna and Nikolai Gubenko. The couple tried to build a relationship, but the director could not forget his love Zhanna Bolotova. There were also conversations that scientists became her men: Inna did not hide the fact that she liked older men with scientific degrees.

The actress was married only in her youth and only once. Her chosen one was the actor and then-novice director Boris Goldaev. The public knew him from his role as landowner Levin in the drama Anna Karenina.

The young people met in 1964 on the stage of the Moscow Taganka Drama and Comedy Theater. After 2 years, the artists got married. The couple settled in the apartment of Inna’s parents. According to the actor himself, he did not want to register the relationship, but Inna convinced him of the need for this step. The couple failed to build a family: the union broke up a year and a half after the wedding.

The situation that influenced Ulyanova’s decision was Goldaev’s passionate dance at one of the artistic parties with Anastasia Vertinskaya. Inna was still trying to save the relationship, especially since her father was ready to give the young couple a 2-room apartment, but now Boris himself insisted on breaking up.

Inna Ulyanova

Ulyanova treated the position of an unmarried woman with a degree of irony, calling herself a “lone wolf.” The actress told her friends that she was not ready to become a mother, but at the same time she easily found a common language with children.

In the 70s, Inna met a new love. The affair with a French pilot, who was 15 years older than the actress, lasted 4 years.

The couple met during one of Konstantin Feldzer’s working visits to Moscow. The artist’s chosen one called her Inna in the French manner, with emphasis on the last syllable, and Ulyanova tried to treat her beloved with home-cooked Russian cuisine at every meeting.

After the breakup, Inna and her lover corresponded for a long time. In the 90s, the actress learned about the death of Konstantin, after which she burned all the letters and photos that were related to her novel.

In her old age, Inna Ivanovna had to devote a lot of time to her mother’s health. Anna Nikolaevna lost her memory, so the actress had to admit her to a nursing home.

The artist was worried about this; she had to listen to accusations of callousness towards her mother. After the death of the celebrity, distant relatives took custody of the woman. They managed to transfer the actress's inheritance to themselves, which was most likely sold.

Litigation for inheritance

But before they had time to bury the body, passions began to boil around the deceased’s apartment. As always happens, relatives immediately showed up. One woman, a notary, who at first introduced herself as a niece, was even able to provide the actress’s will. Later it turned out that this woman was not related. Another niece appeared, this time as if it were real. And a battle began between them both in court and in public space. For a couple of years, various kinds of television shows were provided with material.

In the end, the niece obtained guardianship over Ulyanova’s elderly mother and, acting on her behalf, achieved rights to the apartment. In 2007, the poor old lady died, and her relatives sold the apartment.

Inna Ulyanova began her creative biography from the theater stage. At the Leningrad Comedy Theater, the girl quickly gained fame as a comedic actress: Ulyanova managed to make the audience laugh. However, the dream of the silver screen did not leave the future star.

Inna Ulyanova and Elena Koreneva on the set of the film “Pokrovsky Gates”
After this, Inna Ulyanova had the same small episodes in the films “Cross the Threshold”, “Belated Flowers” and others. The situation changed in 1973, when she starred in an episode of the cult film “17 Moments of Spring.” The tiny role of a drunken woman sank into the hearts of both the audience and the directors, and the expression with which this role was played showed the depth of Ulyanova’s talent.

For some time, the actress was invited to play supporting roles, each of which Ulyanova did better and better. Inna's filmography was gradually replenished with new works.

And in 1982, what is now commonly called its finest hour happened: Inna Ulyanova was invited to play Margarita Khobotova in Pokrovsky Gates. Initially, “Pokrovsky Gate” was shown at the Theater on Malaya Bronnaya. The idea to make a film came from Mikhail Kozakov, the director of the film, in the early 80s, but the management of Mosfilm did not agree to filming for a long time.

Ulyanova perfectly got used to the role of the heroine - an imperious and tough lady, accustomed to commanding loved ones. The film immediately won the love of the audience, the actors’ lines were quoted from mouth to mouth, and photos of Inna Ulyanova and her colleagues on the set were added to the collections of film fans of that time.

Unfortunately, Margarita Khobotova became the only main role of Inna Ulyanova. In subsequent years, the actress's lot was again in the background. Among her works are roles in the films “Where is the nofelet?”, “Our Dacha”, “When they are late for the registry office”, “Burnt by the Sun”. The actress also starred in the humorous magazines “Yeralash” and “Fitil”.

In addition to roles in cinema and theater, viewers also remembered the “Comet” advertisement with Inna Ulyanova: in the 1990s, her character from a commercial advertising a cleaning product was remembered by everyone. Colleagues in the theater workshop reproached Ulyanova for participating in advertising, but the artist reasonably noted that honest work cannot be shameful:

“If an actress plays a bitch, a *** [woman of easy virtue], she is not shy, but if she talks about detergent on screen, they begin to stigmatize her. And you know, those who reproached me the most are now showing off toothpaste and powders themselves, this is such a wonderful way to remind oneself of oneself.”

Death

It is difficult to say for sure what pushed the once famous actress to the bottle. Perhaps it has to do with a failed personal life and loneliness. Perhaps Ulyanov was crippled by the decline of his film career. Be that as it may, at some point, Inna Ulyanova’s alcoholism became public.

In the last years before her death, the woman did not see her colleagues or loved ones and refused to communicate. The actress’s neighbors talked about Ulyanova’s terrible drinking bouts. After some time, the actress had to undergo a serious operation, after which, once at home, Ulyanova again broke down.

The neighbors found the actress: Inna Ivanovna did not open the door for a long time, it seemed suspicious. In serious condition, she was taken to the hospital again, but it was too late. On June 9, 2005, the actress died. The cause of death was given as cirrhosis of the liver.

The death of Inna Ulyanova, as well as information about the monstrous last years filled with loneliness and alcohol, shocked fans of the actress. The only consolation was the films in which her talent would live on forever.

Inna Ivanovna’s grave is located at the Vagankovskoye cemetery, next to the burial place of her mother and grandparents. The funeral took place on June 14, 2005, a civil funeral service took place within the walls of the Taganka Theater.

Alcoholism of Inna Ulyanova

Russian actress

Unfortunately, at the end of her life, the artist became addicted to alcohol. What really pushed Ulyanova to drink, no one can say. Perhaps the reason was loneliness and failures in his personal life, or perhaps it was related to his career. Recently, before her death, the artist avoided meeting with friends and people close to her. People living in the neighborhood said that Inna Ulyanova often went on binges. The actress was even in the hospital for some time, but the rehabilitation course did not help the woman, and she again became addicted to alcohol. After some time, the artist went under a surgical knife, as a result of which she underwent a serious operation. But this did not help her cope with alcoholism.
