Sleeve types
The style of the dress is based on a dress that was first presented by Christian Dior back in 1955. The A-line silhouette consists of a tight-fitting top and a skirt that flares out from the waistline. Due to this structure, the letter A is formed. If the only fundamental requirement for a skirt is a flared silhouette, then the top has no special restrictions.
The type of sleeve for the upper part of the wedding dress silhouette depends on its original length. Both long and short options are allowed, although sometimes brides completely bare their arms.
Long
The sleeve becomes the central decoration of the dress. Lace materials are used for this style. The unity of the image is achieved due to the fact that the fabric frames the top and flows smoothly into the sleeves.
Translucent materials - guipure, lace - should fit your hands tightly. The decision on the pattern is made depending on the girl’s figure. You can narrow your arms by placing the ornament vertically in one line along the length of your arm.
The wide version of the sleeve is not very common. Due to this cut, a girl’s hands can be visually enlarged. The material used is completely transparent and a guipure cuff is created at the bottom.
Short
A small sleeve will add zest to a silhouette wedding dress. This type of length is popular in four versions:
- Up to the elbow - completely or partially made of guipure;
- T-shirt format - guipure is often used;
- Covering only the shoulders, the material of the straps extends a little over the shoulder area;
- The sleeves are lined with open shoulders and a décolleté area.
Three quarters
It all depends on the fabric from which the dress is made. If the bust is made of guipure or includes inserts of identical material, it is worth making the sleeve in a similar format - completely fitting the arms.
When using satin fabric for a wedding dress with a silhouette with a train, the sleeves are made in the same style. A fitted sleeve is built from the bodice, but fittings can be added at the end. For example, for a Victorian-style wedding, a slit is made at the end of the dress element and decorated with a bow made of the same satin.
Without sleeves
The most popular options for sleeveless tops are:
- Corset;
- Bustier;
- With a round neckline - on thin or wide straps.
These options are suitable for girls with medium breast size. Larger or smaller breasts look ridiculous - it is the décolleté area that draws all the attention.
A-line cocktail dresses
Dresses for formal events look simple but formal. They are characterized by:
- shortened length (the skirt barely covers the knees);
- luxurious fabrics (for winter - satin and velvet, for summer - chiffon and silk);
- no sleeves (shoulders completely open, no straps);
- neckline without collar (with shallow neckline).
This model is slightly fitted and tapered in the bodice area. The hem is fluffy, sometimes with flares or flounces. There may be festive decor on top: bows, ruffles, ribbons, beads.

Types of necklines
Another important element of the perfect outfit is the neckline. Designers offer a large selection of bodice styles, but you should choose based on a number of factors:
- Breast size - it needs to be enlarged, hidden, visually reduced;
- The silhouette of the neck - there is a need to emphasize or it should be hidden;
- The overall style of the dress is selected depending on the other details of the outfit.
For the bride, the choice of model must be accompanied by a fitting, because in the neckline area it is impossible to take into account how the bodice of the dress will fit on the figure.
V-shaped
The neckline emphasizes the shape of the bust and opens the neck. At the same time, due to the V-shaped neckline, the size of the shoulders is reduced. If they are wide, then it is enough to choose medium or larger straps. The neckline looks especially impressive on girls with pronounced collarbones.
heart
Using a sweetheart neckline on a bodice imposes several restrictions:
- Cannot be worn on small or too large breasts;
- The material should fit tightly to the skin without forming “gaps”;
- You need to choose your jewelry carefully.
It is allowed to cover the shoulders and décolleté with translucent materials, which allows for sleeves of different lengths.
Straight
The neckline emphasizes fragile shoulders. You should not use it for girls with large shoulders - the figure looks even worse, and with the help of jewelry the situation only gets worse.
Due to the straight neckline, you can hide large breasts and visually enlarge small ones. Therefore, this type of bodice top is suitable for a girl of any size.
Kare
The shape of this neckline is a straight bodice with wide straps. If a girl wants sleeves, they are sewn off from the beginning of the shoulders. Then in the center you get a rectangular space. Appropriate decorations are selected for it that do not violate the design of the dress.
It is used extremely rarely, since it has a number of mandatory requirements:
- Small breasts - allows you to avoid being pinched by the design of the dress;
- Standard weight - so that the straps do not press against the skin.
Otherwise, the design of the neckline suits all girls, regardless of body type.
Oval
The design solution is used everywhere - after all, it is easiest to choose jewelry, hairstyle and other details for an oval neckline. An oval neckline has many positive qualities. For girls with a beautiful neckline and thin neck, this is the best option.
For precious jewelry, you should consider a necklace with large stones. Although for girls with a long neck they do not use an oval neckline on the top.
boat
This option is a win-win for girls with graceful shoulders. The neckline will highlight your collarbones and put emphasis on them. The boat will allow you to create an elegant look from any type of material. The most commonly used are lace and satin.
If a girl has broad shoulders, then outfits with a boat bodice will only highlight her flaws. Otherwise, there are no restrictions on the choice of this cutout.
American armhole
The American armhole is a variation of the top that looks like an armhole cut diagonally from the armpits to the neckline. The shoulders remain open. The neckline is shaped along the raglan line.
Suitable for girls who want to hide their neck - its length or width. Plus, there is no need to select jewelry for the neckline with this neckline.
How to complement the image
The bride's image requires additions to complete its integrity, and given that a dress with an A silhouette covers almost the entire body, there are not many areas left where additional touches can be placed. First of all, do not match the veil to the dress. An easy-to-follow hairstyle will do instead. But it should attract the eye to the upper zone.
Shoes are the only thing that is visible to everyone on a bride; hastily chosen sandals or shoes will not give the desired effect, so this element should be chosen to its advantage. Accessories are also important, and together all these details form a harmonious image of the bride.
Hairstyle
Since the A-line dress is one of the traditional styles, brides choose tried and true hairstyles, but even the slightest detail can ruin the integrity of the look. Both smooth hairstyles, with straight strands scattered over the shoulders, and hair collected in a “shell” and complemented with a tiara are suitable. A hairstyle with loose hair is definitely a bad choice, especially when the dress has an expressive neckline.
Shoes
In the image of a bride, not only the dress itself and hairstyle are important, but also well-chosen shoes, which complete the whole picture in the lower part. The advantage of the A silhouette is that any shoes can be worn with such dresses. These are heels of any height, platform options or even ballet flats. The main thing is that the bride’s shoes are comfortable and match the dress in color and finish, which is more important than choosing a specific style. The standard white color is complemented with similar shoes, and if the dress has inlay, shoes with a similar twist are selected.
Accessories
Accessories, although they are a trifle, can improve the image or, conversely, completely ruin it. You should not choose a trio of jewelry: earrings, necklaces and bracelets; if you still want to wear everything, it is advisable to choose the least noticeable options. If the dress is not lace, you can choose gloves, and put a veil on your head for a simple hairstyle. If the accessories are bright colors, they should be chosen only for white dresses, otherwise the picture turns out chaotic and awkward.
The product, sewn according to the A-silhouette format, allows you to use a different number of additional elements. These include the choice of bodice, neckline, sleeves and draping. Therefore, this cut is considered universal and the easiest to play with decorations and details.
Stylish A-line wedding dresses
A trapeze dress is the basis of a classic bride's look. The A-line cut adds grace to the female figure. The fitted bodice contrasts with the flaring skirt, emphasizing the wasp waist and hiding the protruding belly. The bell-shaped bottom disguises imperfections in the hips.
The length is not regulated. The sleeve can also be any. Hem – with a stretchy train, flat or asymmetrical. As for fashionable design, the trend is options with lace inserts, belts, embroidery, and ruffles.
