Katherine Heigl biography personal life

Biography

Katherine Mary Heigl is an American actress and producer who gained recognition from viewers for her role as Dr. Izzie Stevens in the television series Grey's Anatomy. And the films that brought fame to the artist include “Knocked Up,” “Life as It Is,” “The Naked Truth” and others.

Katherine was born in the US capital, Washington. The child's father, Paul Heigl, ran a financial company, and his mother, Nancy Heigl, worked as a human resources manager. The girl became the fourth child in the family: the actress had two brothers, Holt and Jason, and a sister, Meg, whom her parents adopted.

In 1986, Jason died in a car accident. This tragedy greatly affected the Heigl family: his father and mother became religious and became activists in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Because of this, Katherine herself was educated in a strict Christian school.

Heigl's childhood took place far outside of Washington. First she lived in Virginia, then in Denver, and the family settled in the city of New Canaan, in a large house built in the Victorian style.

From the age of 9, Katherine Heigl posed for cameras. For the first time, as a model, she tried herself in advertising a hair care product that was produced by the girl’s own aunt. And then the parents began sending photographs of their daughter to agencies, and as a result, the little girl was called to advertise Cheerios breakfast cereals.

In addition to regular school, Heigl also went to a music studio, where she learned to play the cello. But the girl attended high school, so to speak, “every other time” and eventually dropped out of New Canaan High School in order to concentrate on filming a movie.

At the dawn of creative achievements

Katherine Heigl's career began quite early. At the age of 9, she was already an advertising face for a hair care product that her aunt produced. In 1992, her debut acting work was a role in the film “That Very Night,” thanks to which she attracted the attention of the prominent auteur director Steven Soderbergh, who was working on the film “King of the Hill” at that time. He invited Heigl for a small role, and in the next film project, “My Father the Hero,” she managed to work with Gerard Depardieu.

Her parents' divorce and graduation from high school in 1996 apparently prompted Katherine to reconsider her views on art and turn her attention to making money. At this time, she posed a lot as a model, starred in films such as “Attack of the Insects,” and worked on TV.

Movies

Katherine Heigl began her career as a film actress as a teenager. Interestingly, the artist’s first melodrama, “That Very Night,” became the debut for another star, Eliza Dushku, who became famous thanks to the fantasy “Buffy the Vampire Slayer.” Katherine, after a series of small roles, two years later appeared together with Gerard Depardieu in the comedy film “My Father is a Hero” and was nominated for a film award as best young actress.

Later she starred in the comedy thriller “Bride of Chucky,” the action adventure “Prince Valiant,” and the youth comedy “100 Girls and One in an Elevator.”

A real breakthrough awaited Heigl in 2005, when the serial medical drama “Grey's Anatomy” began to be broadcast on screens. There, Katherine played the role of the young doctor Izzie Stevens and received the prestigious Emmy Award for this work.

The next round of popularity was given by the incendiary comedies “Knocked Up” with Seth Rogen, “27 Weddings” with James Marsden and “The Ugly Truth” with Gerard Butler. For a long time, producers and directors classified Heigl as a comedian.

Then Katherine appeared in the comedy with action elements “Killers,” where Ashton Kutcher became the girl’s on-screen love. Next came the film “Life as It Is,” in which Heigl starred and acted as a producer.

At the end of 2011, viewers saw Katherine Heigl in the romantic New Year's comedy "Old New Year". Director Garry Marshall assembled a truly stellar cast in the film. Katherine's colleagues were Robert De Niro, Zac Efron, Michelle Pfeiffer, Jessica Biel, Til Schweiger and others. And the artist’s lover was played by the legendary Jon Bon Jovi.

In the next comedy with crime elements, A Very Dangerous Thing, Katherine again played the role of a key female character. She also produced the film.

Another star cast has been assembled in the comedy melodrama “The Big Wedding.” But this time Katherine was nominated for the Golden Raspberry Award as worst supporting actress.

Soon the star was no longer satisfied that she was seen only in a comedic role. Katherine was able to fully return to the dramatic role in 2014 thanks to the political television series “State of Affairs.” However, due to negative reviews from critics, the project was canceled after the first season.

After this, Katherine “rehabilitated herself” by appearing in the melodrama “Jackie and Ryan,” which premiered at the Venice Film Festival. Heigl and the girl’s partner on the set, Ben Barnes, themselves performed the musical compositions heard in the film. They also participated in the creation of soundtracks.

Katherine Heigl tried her hand at voice acting. The artist's voice is used by the squirrel Andy in the cartoons "The Real Squirrel" and "The Real Squirrel 2".

A special place in the actress’s selected filmography is occupied by the film “Jenny’s Wedding.” Katherine tried on the role of a girl with a non-traditional sexual orientation. The release of the film was timed to coincide with the legalization of marriage equality in the United States, and funds for the creation of the film were collected through crowdfunding. Heigl's lover was played by actress Alexis Bledel.

In 2005, Katherine met singer Josh Kelly. They met at the presentation of the musician’s video clip for the song “Only You” and began dating. The following summer, an engagement was announced, and Heigl behaved in an extremely uncontemporary manner: the couple did not live together before the wedding. As the actress said, she wanted life after marriage to be psychologically different from dating or cohabitation.

The wedding took place on December 23, 2007 in Park City. Two years later, the couple adopted a South Korean girl, who was named after her grandmother Nancy Lee, and three years later, a second adopted daughter, Adelaide Marie Hope, appeared in the family. In the summer of 2021, the public learned that Katherine was carrying a child under her heart for the first time. As the actress said, she and her husband are expecting a boy.

In December of the same year, Katherine and Josh's son was born, who was named Joshua Bishop Kelly Jr.

Personal life of Katherine Heigl

Brought up in strict morals, Catherine, compared to other Hollywood actresses, is distinguished by her chastity in relationships. After two affairs with actors Joey Lawrence and Jason Behr, whom the girl was going to marry, Heigl met Josh Kelly, a musician and singer. It was with him that she walked down the aisle. Moreover, before the wedding, the lovers did not live together, since the bride wanted to leave a psychological boundary delineating the time of dating from life in marriage.

She often posts photos on social networks.

Emma Stone

Stone has never been on social media (or at least any accounts that we know of) and lives a rather distant life compared to other celebrities. She once told an American magazine that social media “wouldn’t be positive for her.”

Today, we simply cannot imagine a world without Instagram, YouTube, Twitter and Snapchat. At the same time, we nostalgically remember the times free from social networks.

While the world of the Internet seems to call for dividing your world into virtual and real, some people decide to simply isolate themselves and not complicate their lives. They begin to lead an “ascetic lifestyle” in the space of the network web.

Some Hollywood actresses, famous models and singers follow the same example. We have compiled for you a list of 10 celebrities who “demolished” their social media accounts (and some never registered them at all).
