Childhood and youth
In the port city of Samsun, located on the Black Sea coast, a girl was born into a middle-income family on March 15, 1944, who in the future was to become one of the most famous Turkish actresses. Little is known about Chehre’s parents: Muzeyen’s mother ran the household and raised Nebahat and her brothers Orkhan and Nail, and Izzet’s father, a native of Georgia, worked as a lawyer.
When the girl was 5 years old, her father died due to illness, so the actress practically does not remember what he looked like. The mother and children moved to Istanbul, married a local judge, gave birth to a son, Tayyar, and later divorced.

In 1960, Muzeyen met a journalist, with whom Nebahat developed a warm relationship. She never felt like a stranger next to her stepfather, nevertheless she was often sad and remembered her own father. Perhaps that is why in an interview the artist talked about how important an atmosphere of happiness and a full-fledged family is for children.
Çehre grew up as a shy and modest child and, in order to become more self-confident, at the age of 15 she entered the Miss Turkey beauty contest, in which she took 1st place. Such events become turning points in the fate of the participants, and Nebahat did not escape this fate.
The winner was photographed for the covers of glossy magazines, despite her far from model height of 165 cm, she was invited as a fashion model. She became a role model among women, and men asked the national star for autographs on the street.

Nebahat represented her country at Miss World and Miss Universe, but there the beauty failed to reach the finals.
The Turkish woman devoted most of her time to her modeling career, but she also had enough energy to study. After graduating from high school, Chehre entered the evening department of the University of the Arts, from which, however, she never received a diploma.
In her youth, the actress tried her hand as a singer, Nebahat was forced to take such a step. According to sources, in the 70s there was a surge of interest in explicit scenes in Turkish cinema, but Chehre did not want to act in them. Fame came quickly. In 1962, the aspiring actress starred in eight projects. She made her debut in the film “Bitter Life” in the role of Filiz. Her heroine is the sister of the money-spoiled, selfish boyfriend Ender. He seduced the bride of poor welder Mehmet and left her a month later. A man wins a lottery prize and becomes a millionaire. He takes revenge on the offender and seduces Filiz.
Metin Erksan's black and white film has become a classic of Turkish cinema. Critics called it a masterpiece of its time and praised the filmmaker's original language. This is a story about passion and class contradictions.
The girl maintained the intense pace of work for eight years. Every year she starred in 5-6 films. Notable images of the aspiring artist were Leila in “Ruthless Woman” and Kedje in “Land of Brides.” In 1969, she divorced her first husband, the notorious director Yilmaz Güney. After the breakup of the star couple, there was a pause in their careers - no one wanted to cooperate with the former lover of an influential man. During this period, the movie star appeared on the screen in “The Nameless Warrior” in the image of Altynai and several episodic roles.

Chehre remarried in 1972 and became a housewife. The break in creativity lasted thirty years. The 56-year-old actress returned to the screen as Asia Zeren in the TV series “New Life.” A rapid rise in his career occurred in 2008 after the premiere of Forbidden Love.

Chehre also didn’t think about acting as a profession, although the transition from modeling to cinema is quite natural. So “Miss Turkey – 1960” received an offer to star in the melodrama “Wild Rose” (not to be confused with the Mexican series). She did not like the role of the eccentric rich woman, and Nebahat swore off appearing in the studio in the future.

Nevertheless, the news about Chehre’s participation in the next project was not long in coming. The film “Bitter Life” about love and social inequality is still considered a classic of Turkish cinema. In the film, the actress played a girl paying for the sins of her brother.

Russian audiences learned about the artist thanks to the drama “Forbidden Love.” A series full of passions with a sad ending, filmed over two years, also became popular in Slovakia, Romania, Morocco, Ukraine and two dozen other countries.
The historical film “The Magnificent Century” also gained a lot of fans, in which Nebahat reincarnated as the imperious Hafse Sultan, the mother of Sultan Suleiman I. The line of confrontation between Valida and the ruler’s wife, performed by Meryem Uzerli, is one of the most striking and dramatic.

Personal life

She met her first husband, director and screenwriter, winner of the Palme d'Or at the Cannes Film Festival, Yilmaz Güney, in 1964. For the sake of a brown-eyed beauty with a regal posture, the man left his former family and child.
His character turned out to be hot-tempered; Guney used to beat his wife. After 4 years, the couple divorced, but Nebahat keeps a letter from her ex-husband with a declaration of love, and is friends with her stepdaughter.
