Nowadays, wedding fashion does not dictate certain rules in terms of decorating the celebration. And this gives the newlyweds enormous scope for creativity. The same applies to wedding bouquets. This is a very important wedding element, the creation of which should be approached wisely. It’s been a long time since you can surprise anyone with classic bouquets of roses, but you really want your wedding to be special! Exotic orchids will come to the rescue and can bring a little mystery to the wedding.
Of course, this flower is familiar to everyone firsthand. Orchids - magnificent, sophisticated flowers have attracted the enthusiastic attention of people since ancient times. They were considered such beautiful flowers that many artists, sculptors and poets praised them in their creations.
Thanks to their unique beauty and magical properties, orchids are highly valued, and a certain type of them has even been awarded the title of the most expensive flower in the whole world.
There are a huge number of species and subspecies of orchids and they are distributed in almost all corners of our planet. Currently, scientists count about thirty thousand varieties.

Of course, each species is significantly different from all the others, which gives it great value. Thanks to such diversity, you can create a bouquet from an orchid that can satisfy the needs of the most capricious bride.
A long time ago, the orchid established itself as the best gift for a beloved. There is a belief that the most exquisite compliment for a girl was not to receive a plucked orchid flower, but to invite her lover to the place where this flower grew.
And to this day, an orchid is considered a flower that should be given only to that girl or woman who is truly dear and close. There is no need to use this gift as a sign of attention to women you don’t know well.
You will also have to pay attention to the color of the orchid and its meaning. Here, of course, there are similarities with other colors. Delicate light shades of flowers should be given for platonic light love, while bright and dark shades symbolize passion and desire.

Of course, such a flower, which everyone associates with feelings of love, is widely used to decorate wedding bouquets. Florists love to work with orchids, because thanks to the large selection of colors, shapes and sizes, they are given immense scope for creativity.
As a rule, orchids in delicate pastel colors are used for such a pure and bright holiday. The most popular are white, blue and pink flowers, which can also be used to decorate the bride’s hairstyle or wedding dress.
Orchids in dark, rich shades are, of course, incredibly beautiful and elegant, but they should not be included in a wedding bouquet, especially for young girls, because at such an event they may look a little vulgar.
The size and volume of the bouquet directly depends on the wedding dress. If the bride’s dress is lush and voluminous, then it is better to choose a small, modest bouquet that will not stand out too much, but will only add the necessary chic to the image. If the dress fits your figure, then you can pay attention to large, lush compositions.
Don't think that orchids can't be combined with other flowers. They look great together with roses and hydrangeas. The most important thing is not to overdo it with additional colors. In a bride's bouquet of orchids, they should still be the main ones, and the rest of the flowers only emphasize their beauty.

Orchid: symbolism and legends
If roses can be given to every woman, and with the right shade chosen, to a man, then with orchids the situation is different. Only in Chinese culture, orchids, designated by a special hieroglyph - lan - symbolize spiritual sophistication, the wisdom of hermitage and physical beauty, both men and women. And therefore, a bouquet with orchids can be given to a Chinese youth or a wise old man. In all other countries, the orchid expresses passion, perfection, sophistication, aristocracy, family comfort and fertility. In Vietnam, orchids symbolize the beginning of the new year and spring. It is then that magnificent queens bloom in this country.
Orchid is one of the most common and ancient types of flowers. They do not grow only in Antarctica. On all other continents, wild species have been identified and classified. The greatest variety of shapes and colors of this plant is observed in the tropical zone. The breadth of its growing area explains a great many myths and tales about the origin of the flower.
According to New Zealand legend, orchids sprouted from fragments of a rainbow that fell to the ground. The beautiful natural multi-colored phenomenon attracted the gods who lived on earth at that time. Everyone wanted to sit on the rainbow and admire its beauty up close. The joy of the spectacle filled the hearts of the gods, and everyone began to sing songs of praise to the natural miracle. Because of the loud singing and bustle, the rainbow, unable to withstand the load, split and fell to the ground. And the multi-colored fragments turned into colorful orchids.
A South American story tells of the miraculous appearance of a white orchid. In one of the tribes, during the period of conversion to Christianity, the aborigines did not want to betray their gods and refused to go to church. The local priest tried in various ways to convert them to his faith, but only the misfortune that befell the residents changed the course of events. For a long time, the villagers languished from the heat and drought; the rains still did not come. They decided to take the beautiful orchid to the temple of the new priest. They took her off the stone idols and placed her on the cross of the church. At that moment, the long-awaited rain poured in and washed away all the color from the flower, turning the petals crystal white. Then the pagan deities were forgotten.
The European version is associated with the gods of Olympus. Beautiful Aphrodite and Adonis hid their mutual passion. That's why they hid about gods and people in the caves of Crete. At one of the moments of secret meetings, Zeus discovered the lovers and began to throw lightning at them in anger. While fleeing, Aphrodite dropped her shoe at the foot of the cliff in which the cave was located. The goddess's slipper turned into a flower of unprecedented beauty, and was called the Lady's Slipper. The names of Venus and Aphrodite are often identified in Byzantine mythology. The Slavs also have other common names for this plant - cuckoo boots, Maryin's shoe or cockerels.
The beauty of the orchid has never given rest to clergy and magicians. The tubers of the flower were used to treat rheumatism, skin diseases, and neuralgia. Dried rhizomes were used as amulets, and fresh ones were used to make stews. European witches made love potions, and African and Peruvian tribes used beautiful flowers in initiation rites. Strong and pleasantly smelling types of orchids are still used in perfumery.
And the stylized image of a flower migrated to heraldry:
- in Colombia - the coats of arms of the cities of Hardin, San Mateo, Fusagasuga;
- in Norway - the coat of arms of the commune of Demolition.
The white orchid expresses pure and innocent love, the red and all variegated ones - passion. At the same time it symbolizes fertility and acts as a talisman against physical and moral impotence.

An orchid is more of a decorative flower than the main figure of a flower bunch. Of course, you can make a monobouquet, however, in this case the orchid is “lost” and the composition looks incredibly ordinary, especially if all the flowers are the same color. However, you can call on your imagination to help and, for example, change the classic shape or mix colors (pink orchid + purple).

Forms of bouquets with orchids
If the bride nevertheless opted for a mono-bouquet, then there is an option to diversify it and add originality by changing the shape. The composition will look unusual if you move away from the standard hemispherical shape for wedding flowers and arrange the orchids in a cascade. The stem of the bouquet is in the hands of the bride; they are almost completely covered by an asymmetrical lush head of flowers, which gradually narrows and by the end there are literally a few flowers or buds left. This unusual shape of a flowing bouquet will surprise guests and add charm to the hero of the occasion.
Cascade bouquet with lilies
And, of course, the classic hemisphere. It is worth considering that in this embodiment, the orchid serves as a decoration (since the florist will disassemble the branch into flowers, and not use it entirely), and therefore the main flower should be some other one. In this case, the bouquet will look organic and attractive.
Important! If the wedding dress is lush, the bouquet should not be made voluminous, this will visually expand the bride.
Shapes and colors
To make a phalaenopsis wedding bouquet look beautiful, you must follow certain rules. These are quite capricious flowers that will not forgive violations.
Forms
The form in which the bouquet is created will affect the entire image of the bride. If the choice fell on a mono composition, then you must definitely choose unusual outlines so as not to make the set inexpressive.
Suitable forms for the composition:
- Hemisphere - when the flowers with their cores point in different directions, forming half a ball.
- Cascade - created on the basis of a hemisphere or crescent, with the front edge extended towards the feet. The elongated part gradually narrows, which resembles an inverted drop.
- A bunch - looks like carelessly collected flowers; most often, no additional decorations are used for such a bouquet.
In addition to the usual forms, you can choose compositions made in the form of a ball, umbrella or fan.
It looks very unusual and beautiful, but only small orchids are suitable for the composition, which significantly reduces the variety of shapes or shades.
Color solutions – blue, white, pink bouquet
In addition to their unusual shape, orchids are famous for their variety of colors, so you can choose absolutely incredible inflorescences in blue, red or pink shades.
So, blue cattleyas look very elegant and at the same time bold. They are bright and seem to have a velvet texture. And because of the white middle, it looks like there is an asterisk in them.
If the core is bluish, the flowers are more reminiscent of a mountain sky. Blue orchids cannot be the only ones in a bouquet; they require flowers of a different shade . And it’s best if they are representatives of another plant.
White cattleyas are used for classic compositions; they can be either the only plants or combined with others.
To keep the bouquet clean, you can use white or slightly cream roses, which will be the perfect backdrop for large flowers.
A pink bunch can be created either from orchids or from several types of plants. Peonies are well suited for this, as they add simplicity and tenderness to exotic flowers.
But you can also make a small cascade of pink orchids, which will look very cute and touching.
Decoration elements
If the shape of the bouquet is cascading, you can decorate the flowers with fern or reed leaves. The result is a unique tropical option.

Luxurious bouquet of roses and orchids with your own hands
Instructions for a hemispherical wedding bouquet of white, cream roses and orchids (color of your choice).
You will need:
- 25 roses - 13 cream with a large bud and 12 white with a narrow bud
- 3-4 branches of orchids (about 15 flowers, including buds)
- strong floral greens for garnish
- floral knife
- scissors
- green floral tape
- adhesive tape
- wire 0.6 mm (preferably from a florist shop)
- wide satin ribbon in the color of the bride's dress
- pins
Action plan:
- Trim your roses to a length of 45cm and remove all leaves and thorns from the stem.
- Take 3 cream roses with a large bud and 1 white rose with a small one. Place three cream roses in a circle and a white rose in the center. And so gradually add rose after rose in a checkerboard pattern to form a hemisphere. Place flowers at an angle of approximately 45 degrees.
- Control the height of the outer flowers (each subsequent row from the center is approximately 1.5 cm lower than the previous one).
- Shorten the stems slightly.
- After the base of the bouquet is created, it is necessary to secure its shape. Use adhesive tape and wrap the bouquet 3-4 times along the entire length.
- Put the roses aside, let's get on with the orchids. Take the wire, pass it through the dense lower part of the orchid by 5 cm, bend this piece towards the stem.
- Wrap the wire and the flower stem tightly with tape. Prepare all the flowers and buds in this way.
- Add orchids to the base of the bouquet, filling in the empty spaces between the roses. Try to arrange flowers harmoniously and proportionally.
- Wrap duct tape around the bouquet again to secure the orchid wires to the rose stems.
- Now it’s the turn of the greenery - it will not only decorate your bouquet, but also hide the visible wire. Take a twig (or part of it, if the branch is large) and attach it to the base of the stems, under the flowers. Place the leaves in this way around the entire circumference of the bouquet. The greenery can either protrude from the edges of the bouquet or be hidden under the flowers - at your discretion.
- Secure the greenery to the rest of the arrangement with duct tape.
- We decorate the bouquet handle. If you want a bouquet decorated with a bow, then first you need to attach it to the stems - first with a wire (from 1 mm), and then again with adhesive tape.
- Take a satin ribbon and wrap it tightly around the stems of roses and orchids. You can secure the tail of the ribbon with decorated pins.
- Trim the stems of the bouquet.
Ready!
